When you love someone, you don't judge them physically. But you would want to have them in your life for as long as possible, and I just wonder why encouraging IZ into losing weight was ever done. I am selfish because his miraculous talents are gone with him. Everyone loved him. He taught a great lesson on how to be better people by loving one another. Did he have a physical reason for the extreme weight? Did doctors determine what it was and try to help him? I wish, again selfishly, that something could have been done.

      @@kayebarnett517
I am an RN, I believe that the extreme weight gain in the South Pacific population is caused by either a bacteria, or even the lack of one in the gut, or perhaps a virus.
Although food can obviously increase weight like in American population, the type of extreme weight IZ had is not because of immense food intake.
      My humble opinion...
      Cheers.

I have read everything I could find about I z & his family & it sounds like his life was happy & that he & Marlene really loved each other. That makes me happy! I read that Marlene went thru depression for a year after he passed. I'm sorry she had to go thru all that she had to but glad she loved him so much!

I live in Nevada all my life but my Father was born and raised in Hawaii just like His Father but I have not bonded with my culture as much as I wanted to in my life but one day I was listening to Israel and my 14 year old Son heard it and wanted a ukalele so I bought Him one and a year later He can play and sing many of Israel's songs. For that I thank You and Iz.Rest in Paradise...

He has touched my heart is ways NO one has been able to. And if a person You have never met can help turn your life around it was worth one song. School of hard knocks teaches a lot of hate and anger towards people. But I turned it all loose when I first heard his music a few years ago. It has taken time but I am up to learning about my ancestors and my indian heritage and feel blessed to be able to release the horrible things in my life. Thank you IZ.

He didn't die because he ate a lot or from gluttony as some of you are suggesting. He died because of a genetic disorder. He had low thyroid and a bad metabolism. His body couldn't metabolize the food that he ate properly. I believe there was a guy like this in mexico too that weighed like 700 pounds or something.

I just found IZ's song , rendition , of ' Somewhere over the Rainbow ' yesterday, after about 15 seconds into the song, I felt an overwhelming sadness, I could not believe a song could be so heavenly perfect, a voice , so exquisite... I am so happy to have found this exceptional singer's songs but deeply grieved that he is gone but he certainly let's us know how real heaven is , in his version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and I am content to know he was loved and had a family who loved him, and he too loved so many. I hope those who love him, keep his memory alive forever , he deserves this. Wow, what a beautiful singing voice God blessed him with.. just absolutely the best!

@ljbeavers I lost the love of my life too for similar reasons. Then I found someone who did not care about size, and he died at the age of 36, a few years after the world lost Israel. I eventually got medical help for my size but still am large, I lost my best friend to the same issues that took Israel from us. I do not understand these terrible people who look at a person's physical self and cannot see anything else, cannot see the beauty of the soul. I pity them.

The wonderful thing about Iz and those who hold him as beloved, to this day, is that we are shown that not all cultures are superficial. Iz looked like a majestic king and he sounded like the King of the Angels.

I haven't heard much of this guy's music, but I can definitely see the talent and respect this guy has accumulated in his life. If I ever have a career in music, I hope to be like this man. His music isn't crap, and people seem to respect him, so he seems to be something of a role-model. He's even honored by the state government! I don't need that kind of honor, but if I can be known as this guy is, that would be almost dream-like and wonderful.
Also, oldschoolchicas, show the guy some respect.

I cant believe all thes negs directed at IZ. He had so much love, and a good thing to say about everyone. Thats something rare in the entertainment industry. Sure he was a big man, but he was also a great man. Unconditional love, and kindness is something you dont see much of anymore, and those values are what made IZ an even greater man than he was. Just look at him in the videos, and youll understand that this was a man with too much love for the world, and those around him.gone, not forgotten.
