Kenai Fjords National Park - MUST SEE in Alaska! INCREDIBLE Whale Watching!

  • This was an INCREDIBLE day!! We drove from Anchorage to Seward for our Kenai Fjords National Park excursion. This is a 6-hour boat ride taking us through the fjords, to glaciers and to see wildlife.
And we saw SO MUCH wildlife! I have been whale watching before, but you will typically only see one species of whale... not us! We saw THREE! First up was a large pod of Killer Whales aka Orcas that were very active. Then we saw Fin Whales which are pretty rare to see (this was a first for us). And then the Humpback whales... these were unbelievable and we saw not just spouts and tails as they dive, but they were all over the place and stayed near the surface. The whales would even roll and wave their fins at us! Well, I will say they were waving...
But not just whales... we saw lots of sea lions, sea otters, harbor seals, eagles and puffins. What an incredible day for wildlife!! The highlight of the boat ride was the Holgate glaicier! It was massive and we were able to spend a good bit of time there just taking it in. The crew even scooped up some glacier ice so we could see it up close... and took it to the bar for icy beverages.
After the boat tour, we took our time on the drive back and made many stops along the way. Our favorite was Beluga Point. Such a beautiful spot to stop, crawl over the guard rails, cross the train tracks and stand and take in the scenery.
