    Buenos Aires was mentioned in 5 previous videos.
    I don't need to say where city's like London, Moscow and New York are, or should I.

    Mato: "Black is.. not resigning! So, Capablanca, instead of giving checkmate in 3 moves, decided to torture his opponent for longer" EPIC commentary Mato.. couldn't stop laughing for like 2 minutes replaying and replaying

    great game mato, i cant understand what would compel a player at that level to not castle sooner and develop. i understand if it's done bc they have great attacking going or trap going, but it actually appeared as if he was just over prophylactically.

    At the end there is 3 different moves to checkmate the opponents king and this made me wonder if there has ever been a game that the record for most possible ways to win on the last move. Could there be a game where there is 5 possible checkmates or more on the last move?

    i think after 19.Ne6 Rd7 would have been good. there was no need to capture knight on b5 and the knight on e6 will also have to go back.

    at 6:35 the purpose of e6 is not the only to lure the queen to greed but to also protect the black's king escape route d7.

    +Calin: We are dealing with "potential" threats. When a piece is attacking another piece of higher rank, the higher ranked piece must move... (of course not always... but in theory.) Therefore it can be a dreadful surprise "after the smoke has gone..." (read: the pieces in between has left or been captured) to find yourself losing the initiative in an otherwise good position. Another reason is that Rooks are "heavy artillery". They are slow pieces but their lack of speed is made up for by heavy firepower. Therefore you might as well place them with a long term purpose: If things are opened up their tremendous firepower is released... and what could be better than hitting the Queen (or King). The "light artillery" (Nights and Bishops) move much faster so it is more likely that THEY will move before the Queen.

    • @PairsOfDuals
      @PairsOfDuals 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a very good chess player, but from what I've read and seen through many statistics, the Bird's opening is not very good. It's one of the few openings where black tends to win more than white. By quite a bit as well.

    • @korggan
      @korggan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PairsOfDuals Indeed. You do attempt to control dark squares, but there are also a lot of weaknesses developed early and the midgame structure looks awkward for white. Definitely not something beginners or even intermediate players can handle.

    • @PairsOfDuals
      @PairsOfDuals 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mifune` Yeah. Opening with your f pawn with either side is a very dangerous and weakening idea (including the Dutch). I don't like the whole idea of opening up your kingside with your very first move of the game lol.

    • @korggan
      @korggan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      PairsOfDuals But it's fun to be practised in something called "the bird opening". That's the trade-off, risk vs. cool opening label. The same idea with "The Wandering King",sounds pretty amazing but you never want to be caught playing that.

  • @Calinn86
    @Calinn86 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    can someone please explain why is it so important to place rook on the same file with the opponent's queen? i hear this a lot in mato's commentaries, but for example in this game when white moves rook to C1, that file is far from being opened, there are also multiple pieces between the rook and the black queen and furthermore, the black queen has options to move from there if she needed to. so what's the purpose of a move like that from white, if it doesn't pose any immediate threat to the queen, a queen which may be long gone from that file until the rook can directly attack her?

    I can understand, that peole wants to develop the the pieces to a good places on the bord and ther for waits to the right moment, but why not develop the bishop with capture and place it on the same diagonal as the oponents king, that is unbelevible!
