In Prelude III the nuances, the extreme dynamics achieved are remarkable. In this concert Marcyn is demanding maximum response from the instrument - at times it feels like the strings will refuse to give what he is asking for and then he pulls back - t
    the dialogue is breathtaking.

The legend has that the performer pays someone to cough so that the recital sounds legit and down to earth...

On the contrary. There's hardly something more annoying than a stupid member of the audience whose coughs ruin the precious recording of that concert --forever. There should be protecting guards to kick the offenders out!

There is a recording of Rachmaninoff with a nice coughing fit in it. Odd that a century later that person is still heard by thousands of people. His boss, his teachers, his friends are now all eternally silent - but that man is now an immortal.

@ArwenMeow Indeed. Excellence is to be pursued. Success can be fleeting. Regardless, it is much more rewarding to be able to play music that will not be selling coffee or chips at a later date. Not financially rewarding at all times, but emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically rewarding, as you seem to know well. Cheers!

A great interpreter will give you insight into the composer's intention. A great musician will take you through the gamut of emotions that the guitar is capable and more. Marcin plays with such enigmatic energy here that the guitar seems to strain to equal the intensity and just when you think it can give no more, Marcin with the slightest of touch coos the guitar back to the purest of vibration. Each time I listen it seems I have reached a better understanding of why the guitar is such an incredible instrument. Thank you Marcin for your discipline and for stretching the possible.

@@slipkintiif I’m not mistaken it looks like it could be a Torres replica made by a German luthier named Wolfgang Jellinghaus. I have one of his guitars and he is known for his exquisite replicas. The rosette looks like his signature but, I could be wrong and it could just be that he is playing an actual Torres lol. Wether it is a replica or the real thing, this is a Torres guitar. You can tell by the decoration on the tailpiece.

Such fluid yet incisive playing and that 2nd prelude...astounding. 3 is wonderfully declamatory. And the second appearance of the descending theme on the pedal point is wonderfully contrasted with its plaintive slide. Energy of 4 is great. Just wow! Very intelligent yet passionate. Lots of technique in reserve. Nice edges and risk taking. 5 is a wonderful conversation...not many players render that juxtaposition so eloquently. I have to say, one of the most memorable and satisfying performances, well integrated and replete with the character of Brazilian music forms.

His fingers just seem to do ballet on the strings. His technique is remarkable--hours and hours of practice behind the scenes to prepare just for this performance. Not only does he have the mechanics down pat but he shows an incredible sensitivity to the quality and feel of the sound he is actually producing. Remarkable musicianship.

    " ...a bit melodramatic at times." ???
To my mind, so energetically melodramatic that you want to jump into the screen and hold his head and body still. It 's impossible for me to watch his performances; to make them palatable I simply listen to the recitals. And what's with all the mouth puckering? Enough already!
As for melodrama being " ...the trend of the modern players", well not all, fortunately. Among Dylla's contemporaries, I count Ana Vidovic's luminous virtuosity as being without peer, and there's never anything wrong in turning back the clock and listening to Pierri, Barrueco, Rodrigo or Segovia.
Bravo to you Alan Dunsmuir, both for your critique--and your unrepentant defense of it versus His Pomposity, John McKinley-Ward.
As for you dear john, stick this in your pocket and remember it when you feel that certain itch to condemn thoughtful commentary on these sites: as an Edwardian era Brit once put it, criticism is the poetry of life. Which is to say the overarching goal of critique is ultimately about cultivating and nurturing aspirations, not dumbing down them down. So Bravo! too, to Bad Mojo for: "There are so many ways to fail and so few to succeed criticism is invaluable, especially when it doesn't come from ego or virtue signalling."
The very last thing we need today is more and more Political Correctness.

He's like the Kurt Cobain of classical guitar (only plays power chords and diad tritones)
