There's a reason Journey was HUGE... they were IT... and why everybody loves them (even if they don't want to admit it). They were an incredible band!

I remember I had a bunch of friends who loved death and speed metal bands. But even they would throw back their heads and sing along to Journey when their songs would come on the radio. Only when around close friends of course. In public, among strangers, they were "too metal" to admit it. LOL

When I was young, I thought the words were "I come to you with broken arms..."
I thought it was a really deep commentary on how heartbreak makes it difficult to embrace a new relationship.🤔

Jay will love it too, because we all know he’s a ‘Piano Man’ at heart!! And the piano plays a very close 2nd place to Steve Perry’s vocals on this song, which are noting short of impeccable.

Arnel Pineda of the Philippines became Journey's "new" lead singer in December 2007. He too has an amazing voice and is quite the showman on stage. I highly recommend you go see them in concert this year for the full Journey experience. They are one of the all time great bands to see live, even all these years later.

    • @cindymarsh6342

They are wearing out Arnels voice just as they tried with Perry. Steve left because he knew the band would never rest. He'd had enough of not having a real life and being worn down by touring. I see Arnels voice has changed since the beginning of him joining. He basically does whatever Neil Schone tells him to. Its Arnels nice guy nature.

You got to do "Lights", "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'", "Any Way You Want It", "Who's Crying Now", "Open Arms", "Separate Ways", and perhaps their most famous song "Don't Stop Believin'". Was there a voice in that era more recognizable than Steve Perry's? I don't think so! (OK, maybe Steven Tyler.) P.S. "Two strangers learn to fall in love again. I get the joy of rediscovering you" gets me every time. You guys don't know how much joy you give to my generation who grew up with this music era when we see you enjoying it and appreciating it as you do. I love to see young people appreciating this music. Take my advice: slow dance to this song with someone you love. You won't regret it, I promise. It's made so many great memories for me and I hope it does the same for you. ❤

Journey is a great American rock band formed in 1973 by former members of Santana, Steve Miller Band & Frumious Bandersnatch. Journey had their biggest commercial success between 78-87, when Steve Perry was lead vocalist. They had so many hits including "Don't Stop Believin'", "Open Arms", "Who's Crying Now", "Still They Ride", "Wheel in the Sky", "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", "Faithfully", "Send Her My Love" & "After the Fall".

Truly, my favorite version of the band was before Perry joined in 1977 or so. I saw them live at Foothill College in 1975. They were an awesome progressive rock band with 3 great albums with hits like LOOK INTO THE FUTURE, ON A SATURDAY NIGHT and much more (LOVE the instrumental TOPAZ). They had so much more potential in this direction. But then their producer made them take on Perry, and they became a commercial pop success as the producers hoped. But now they play sweet songs instead of bad-ass rock songs, so even though I like the new hits I consider them second class to the original band.
      THIS is the sht... th-cam.com/video/CmvP1hdYKNs/w-d-xo.html

Hmm, I look at it like this... Faithfully talks about the struggles of maintaining a relationship despite the demands of being a musician. When You Love a Woman is more an observational approach to what makes love. Send Her My Love is about the regret of losing love. All truly excellent songs, but for my money, I'll go with Stay Awhile as journey's best love song, and one of the best all-time - an absolutely gorgeous song that from start to finish that expresses love in a beautiful way. From the desperate desire to just be with that special woman, to the expression of trying to impress and win her. Then the powerful, climactic crescendo at the end, the strings come in, and the rich harmony's culminate perfectly...

I agree Journey has had a few lead singers but Perry’s voice is what brought them to their highest peak for hits. The singers after him all seemed to have the same raspy voice but Steve Perry is one of a kind. I stopped listening to anything they made after he left the band because honestly it was his vocals I wanted to hear. He made plenty of music I listen to all the time.

@@persiascott2490 Journey's first hits were duos with founding member Greg Rollie and Steve Perry. The three initial albums released by the band were very different in style. As much as his voice, Perry's song writing with Neil Schon changed Journey's popularity. Also, if you listen to Steve's first two albums with the band, there is no rasp in his voice. But back then, you toured to sell records, and their management toured the crap out of his voice. By the end of their last tour, he was fried. He was amazing.

It's a complete emotional contrast from this song, The musical story of someone desperately holding on to a love they've already lost. Fast paced with great riffs on drums, guitar and keyboards and I remember you guys saying you were looking for some songs with keyboards. Fantastic vocals both in the harmony and in Steve Perry's lead. Hits with a strong emotional impact yet completely different from this song. But if you do react to Separate Ways please DO NOT react to the official music video, it's had bits of the song chopped out for time constraints. React to the studio track or a lyrics track instead please.

...If I had to pick a greatest band of my youth it would be Journey...Jonathan Cain was also an essential element, not to mention Greg Rollie on earlier albums...none of the members should be sold short, they were a great band...they still sound great with Arnel Pineda, but will never recapture the magic of the 80s Journey

Little known fact... After first hearing this song, Prince liked the tune so much that he was inspired to write his own version of it - Purple Rain. * If you listen to both songs back to back and close your eyes while listening you'll be blown away at the similarities the songs have with one another, especially towards the end!

Check out Journy live. 1981 Don't stop Believin and Who's Crying Now. Steve Perry was possibly better live than in the studio. One of the greatest vocalists in any genre of music.
