It works two ways - what you said, plus next time those guys do that drill for Karl they will strive to do better because none of us ever want to disappoint a mentor - so its a win/win. 👍

When possible, I learn to put the correct amount in the firearm and shoot till dry. Cannot count that fast. Always been an issue when I get passed 3 or 4 rounds on one target.
Yep - a great instructor (as Karl obviously is) can always come up with a new/different way to get the message across to a “student” (Chad 🤣). “The Instructor is the bridge between the unknown and the known” (for the student). 👍

Just want to add. The target used for qual was the QIT not sure on the series number. Also want to include that some elements of the COF are from holstered as you guys demonstrated but drawn from concealed. At least it was back in 2001-2005. Last I heard it’s no longer a qual standard. Anyways have a good one.

Definitely prefer the realistic and true takes in the video and THANK YOU for not trying to make it perfect! This is real life. Kudos to Imri and Chad for putting themselves out there for this. Happy New Year guys!!!!
Nice one brothers. And to add to the aspects of the timeframe of Agency-related quals, most of the time the qualification tests are every x amount of months (varies by agency and their contractors), with usually only one round of semi-drill or non-drill warmup beforehand with the same amount of rounds, so it's not like they're out there drilling this every day or even every weekend unless they're a big gun guy/gal or constant shooter (as time allows them in their line of high-demand work), sometimes it's the only time they fire their weapon in the entire span of service until the next test down the road and so on (especially right now with the lack of open ranges due to shutdowns/the plandemic and the winter season affect as that applies for outdoor facilities). Was cool to see it done with a rifle too, not too shabby.

When you diagnose or expose areas that can be improved, do so. Never be complacent. Good lessons in "range mastering" or "running the line" too. Safety is always always tops.
Retired Fed here & firearms instructor...based on 30+ years of quals, at 5 points per shot, max score is 150, min passing score is 105 (70%). Based on the close quarters of this qual I think I have a guess of who's qual it is. Our qual was 72 rounds nd went to the 50 yard line, then changed to the 25 yard line max distnce.
Good laugh for that first vid of the year 😂 Thx Chad you're the best ! got the point of the training, taking any test out there and adding our own spice to it, even if the goal becomes harder or even unreachable, it's pushing us to do big leaps in time and under stress, that tip may come very handy for the few lockdowns coming. Thx again for all you're doing guys it's awesome.
It's not about the agency and who's test is "harder", it's about varying your training enough that you don't become complacent. The reason I say this is that I am only shooting at the TSA qualification level, I hope to pass the IRS qualification level soon though!
I love the drill and copied it from the description for my own use. Just an observation, but during the kneeling portion of stage 7, rounds were impacting high on the berm. Not a safety infractions, but a shorter shooter could possibly have overshot the berm. Just to make you aware. Thanks for bringing great content like this!
Agreed. For shorter shooters, place the target lower to the ground. An added benefit of training at The Range Complex is that they own MAX Distance of all small arms rounds used of these ranges. Many privately owned ranges do not, and rely on berms for containment.
33 minute video featuring 3 minutes of shooting and 30 minutes of Karl and the crew struggling with basic math. Clearly this isn't the the qualification for NASA.
I know the agency you are referring to Karl. I use this 7 stage qualification on a very regular basis to maintain my skill set since we know firearm skills are perishable. It was glad to meet you at the NRA convention in Houston 2022. Thx. for the Tactical Rifleman patch. I am that old jarhead.
Emory just needs to remember that old chestnut.. "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" and, very slowly, concentrate on the simultaneous actions of angling the pistol,, pressing the button and dropping the spent mag while, simultaneously, his other hand moves for the new mag. Then gradually concentrate on make those moves faster. You can see, from this angle, how jerky his motions were. We often bypass the study of physiology and the efficiency of motion and, instead, push the concept of faster rather than the concept of smoother. Only by breaking things down into individual movements and examining each one individually, can we determine which are proper, which are redundant and which need to be eliminated completely. He could drop a full second, easily. Then start actually improving from there. Chad's counting screw-up is very poignant and indicative of what is currently wrong with the way a lot of people are learning to train today. They get very much "in a groove" and do not mix it up enough for the brain to overcome muscle memory. Muscle memory is a good thing but, can also be a real negative if not kept in check. I'm sure he was saying to himself "6 shots, 6 shots ..." and then immediately proceeded to "fire five rounds, fire." (which is a common, military range practice). It wasn't until you cracked the code of his mindset and told him to fire the 5, then send 1 that he finally overcame the habit of firing 5 rounds at a time (I'm sure he can count to 6). ;) This also ends up being a very large problem for people who practice the quick, "draw-aim-shoot" and "tap-rack-bang" drills. With DAS drills, people become so ingrained with aiming and firing in a set cadence, as fast as they can, that when the time comes to change shot counts or to draw, aim and NOT fire, they can't do it. Whether training on a range or faced with a "live" situation (such as home defense, etc.), the gun comes up and, as soon as the sight drops on target, *BANG* .. The problem with this is, what if you draw and aim and, just as the trigger moves, you realize that your staring at a "friendly?" Maybe even your wife or kid? It happens. And I've trained enough people who can't stop or delay their shot, even when I'm saying into their ear "draw and aim, do not fire." (sound familiar, Karl?) lol It's very important to vary training routines regularly so the finger is ultimately controlled by the mind, first, then the muscles. Change shot count, cadence and mix speed drills with accuracy drills as part of your routine. I mentioned tap-rack-bang drills. One thing gets overlooked in training with today's ammo... And that one thing can get you or someone else killed. That thing is a "hangfire." It's very true that modern ammunition is very dependable and malfunctions are much more rare. Its also true that people don't change. We still make mistakes, like getting contaminants on ammo that's too close to the cleaning area for your maintenance or trying to clean some surface rust off ammo that sat out too long (just ask Matt at CRS Firearms). But, I digress... When you do tap-rack-bang drills, people immediately follow the misfire by pulling their weapon off target and tapping the mag. The problem is that a hangfire, which is a delay in the ignition of the main powder charge of a cartridge after the primer strike, can take anywhere from an almost imperceptible amount of time to several seconds to occur. So, when your gun doesn't go bang, train to pause a few seconds before taking the weapon off-target, *continuing to keep the muzzle pointing down range* and then proceed with the drill. We aren't practicing in actual combat conditions, so the safety buffer allowed by training to wait is much more easily removed when you're under fire and that 3 seconds may make the difference, than it is to try to remember to add time when you're constantly training for instantaneous reaction. Now, then... For those who are about to tell me I'm crazy and that hangfires can't happen, do a quick TH-cam search for "hangfire." They can and do happen, though quite infrequently. However, it's the over confidence in trusting that something bad won't happen, as opposed to training for the possibility that something bad could happen that gets people killed. Trusting that every single round ever manufactured, especially with off-brand or hand loads, will never have a malfunction is absolutely like playing Russian roulette, just with a lot more rounds in a giant cylinder. One day, luck *will* run out, for someone. Where do we think all the "hubbub" about negligent discharges comes from? It comes from being too trusting and lackadaisical attitudes. If you're going to train with repetitive drills, especially speed drills, understand that nothing is guaranteed to be the same and train to the side of appropriate caution and not to blind trust. I think the main point that I'm trying to make is, people are so involved with the minutiae of trying to shave off a couple seconds, or tenths of seconds, that they lose sight of the bigger picture. Your "other government agency" teaches awareness and control of the mind, as well as the body, so their agents, hopefully, will make the right choices when in the field. Thanks for "the good stuff."
love the shooting drills. love that you dont edit out mistakes. it is realistic and everyone of us will run this and learn better compared to the "tactical drills" that have zero mistakes and focus on getting all the perfectly tacticool shots for the video which makes it so unrealistic.
Seems to me that Karl just got a huge LOL weapon for those poor guys on any occasion :) E.g. Chad - buy us 6 beers... Uhmmm.. Ok.. Buy 5 and one more :) Emri - get us 3 vodka shots.. Just 3! Don't bring 4 if you miss the bar the first time. :) Great video TR guys. The test seemed to be not so hard reading it :) but after I watched.. OK.. must try.. someday in far future, after I practice "some" more :) :)
I saw that billiard balls are as low as $1.25 on the Amazon. I think I'll just load up my over sized dump pouch with 8 balls and throw them at the target. Cheaper and more available at this point.
Don’t forget to take your 24 hour safety corse cost roughly = $1,200.00, your AG approved psychology exam, being a specific specialized government requirement cost roughly = $500.00, insurance/fee cost=$800.00, license fee cost roughly =200.00. And don’t forget to bribe your ex wife to put in a good word for you variable cost $0 to 5,000,000.00. Congratulation; you can legally buy that box of 308. You always wanted. Cost $30.00...plus $150.00 government sales tax for restricted item usage. Total cost = $2,880 + cost to bribe your ex wife.
Your videos are great. Another great drill "test" if you will. The fact that you show that all things are not perfect makes them very fun to watch and very funny.... I won't call you anything to your face. I'll wait until I'm behind you... Love it!
Thanks for another awesome training video. I would name Task #6 modified El Presidenty. Both of the shooters did a fantastic job. Not many of us that can shoot as well as they did. Speaking for my self, I would be excited to shoot close to their times. I have an advantage, as I know what I need to work on.
Couldn't agree more, if you're comfortable, and you don't make mistakes, then you're not pushing your limits to improve yourself. Great drills, thanks for sharing.
You recommend that we take as many training courses/tests as we can. Here in Central Illinois, we have a number of indoor and outdoor ranges. They all concentrate on CCW. Very rarely is a rifle course offered. The outdoor ranges don't allow us to move around while shooting. Sure, we could come to your facility and take a course. But we wouldn't be able to practice what we learned when we got home. Things need to change if people are to become proficient and able to protect America if SHTF. What do you recommend we do?
There are ranges everywhere that will allow you to train; you might have to drop couple hours, but they are out there. I have clients come drone every corner of the USA to attend classes… literally, the last class in Texas had clients from Florida, California, and Alaska. Our classes south of Ft Campbell are less than 5 hours from any part of Illinois. Thanks for watching, TR
@@TacticalRifleman Yeah, but my point is when we get home we will want to practice what we learned from Tactical Rifleman. The local ranges won't allow us to maneuver. The ranges need to come of age if we are to become proficient.
Oh man I’m busting a gut at Chad’s half dozen. It’s not his fault though. They guy at the store always takes one beer out of every six pack he buys so he intrinsically understands that 6 is really just 5. And “The internet is forever.” Man I’m rolling. 2021 is off to an outstanding start!
What’s up dude it’s Radar hopefully be out to work with y’all in December.. just wanted to appreciate you for teaching me the high A zone standard it changed everything in my training and I can’t thank you enough God bless you and tell Imri I’m still waiting on that sandwich shop What was it grandmas something??😂😂 have a good day!
Carl, yet another funny one your team has such a good relationship it shows and by adding the AR to the drill shows your level of teaching experience I am grateful as a civilian to be able to benefit from your guys time spent training as serving our Great nation🇺🇸 my son is a US Marine and he has qualified Expert Matksman 2 years in a row now I thank that to time well spent starting with a red Ryder and advancing him to many other rifles as well as the AR thanks for annother great Post
Outstanding work (again). Technical, tactical, disarming, entertaining and more importantly, all while keeping it very real. You have forced me to go PATREON on you, if just to get you a small made in china calculator to slap on the side of your shoot timer. Thanks.
Good video and I enjoyed watching in and will be running this qual at my range next chance I get. I believe this is a good pistol qual, at least for the intended personnel. For obvious reasons, it does not have shooting from cover and some other things most State and Local agencies include, it is more specific to there occupation. Somebody may have already stated, but I believe this test also requires drawing from concealment and reloads are from a fully loaded firearm. Also the hit zone is about half that of what you showed on your target, but still more than you allowed.
Love the alternate training time stuff .. not to be too hard on your rifleman since he is using essentially a righthanded rifle as a silly sider .. however would using the drop free mag assumption (yes I know ass u me) vs the positive mag extraction method have been any faster ?? Issue is still the offside mag release but it might have helped unless the positive mag extraction method is the standard. If I had a nickel for everytime I heard or said (for that matter) .. "train to standard not to time" I would be a rich retiree instead of just a retiree. Great stuff .. will be adding this one to my drills before I start using it for students. Scott
Our unit had a "5,4,3,2,1" Drill; you shoot the targets as follows= 1 round each on Targets 1-5, 1 round each on Targets 1-4, 1 round each on Targets 1-3, 1 round each on Targets 1-2, 1 round on Target 1. 7 yards, 30 seconds, from Low Ready. It was INSANE! I'd love to see you guys run it
@@lukakapyro the time would be great for a single target, but when you have to switch targets, including remembering which targets to shoot, while trying to put all your shots in the x ring, with a government issued handgun, and with other people shooting at the same time, it's not as easy as it sounds
@@adrianfirewalker4183 X ring like on a B8 target? sure that's going to be difficult at speed. A zone USPSA target not a problem at all. sounds similar to as V Tac drill. I like to see how it's actually done so i CAN TRY.
This was a cool change of pace. Being a Left handed rifleman, reloading for us is inherently slower, much more manipulation on the magazine. No complaint just a fact that we learn to deal with... None the less This is worth trying. Five then one more! Been there done that LMAO! LOL, LOL
Would you happen to know what APFS, NAICS code etc, you enter to find gov contracts seeking firearm training instructors, live fire drills/ weapons system training or active shooter training? Thanks
Great video, team. Might have to give this one a try. Had a question about Karl’s ear pro: what brand/model is that? I’d love to try some in-ear ear pro. Thanks!
Three kinds of Marines: Those that can count and those that can’t!
Awesome
If y’all never had the opportunity to train with Karl, he is just like this all day long. Outstanding video gents!
Thanks James... miss ya buddy
This must not be a CIA qualification test because the paper target isn't JFK.

There needs to be dog targets too for it to be a federal agency qual.

I'm sure he was saying to himself "6 shots, 6 shots ..." and then immediately proceeded to "fire five rounds, fire." (which is a common, military range practice). It wasn't until you cracked the code of his mindset and told him to fire the 5, then send 1 that he finally overcame the habit of firing 5 rounds at a time (I'm sure he can count to 6). ;)
This also ends up being a very large problem for people who practice the quick, "draw-aim-shoot" and "tap-rack-bang" drills.
It happens. And I've trained enough people who can't stop or delay their shot, even when I'm saying into their ear "draw and aim, do not fire." (sound familiar, Karl?) lol
It's very important to vary training routines regularly so the finger is ultimately controlled by the mind, first, then the muscles.
Change shot count, cadence and mix speed drills with accuracy drills as part of your routine.
I mentioned tap-rack-bang drills.
One thing gets overlooked in training with today's ammo... And that one thing can get you or someone else killed. That thing is a "hangfire."
It's very true that modern ammunition is very dependable and malfunctions are much more rare.
Happy 2021 Tactical Rifleman! Hope I can make a training class this year.
love the shooting drills. love that you dont edit out mistakes. it is realistic and everyone of us will run this and learn better compared to the "tactical drills" that have zero mistakes and focus on getting all the perfectly tacticool shots for the video which makes it so unrealistic.
Sometimes the first take runs perfect with no misses, but not too often
Seems to me that Karl just got a huge LOL weapon for those poor guys on any occasion :)
E.g. Chad - buy us 6 beers... Uhmmm.. Ok.. Buy 5 and one more :)
Emri - get us 3 vodka shots.. Just 3! Don't bring 4 if you miss the bar the first time.
:)
Great video TR guys. The test seemed to be not so hard reading it :) but after I watched.. OK.. must try.. someday in far future, after I practice "some" more :) :)
Hopefully in 2021 I'll be able to find and afford some ammo to try this. TR
I don't think '21 will be great year for ammo; or '22, or '23, or...
I saw that billiard balls are as low as $1.25 on the Amazon. I think I'll just load up my over sized dump pouch with 8 balls and throw them at the target. Cheaper and more available at this point.
@@kingduckford I hear Cheaper than dirt is selling Billiard balls for the low price of $125.00 EACH
One reason I just sent it to my range buddies for us to try one day. It is just 30 rounds. Will not hurt the reserve that bad.
I suggest a ‘McConnell’ target!
How about a Biden target right next McConnell
The roasting is example of military humor at its finest 🤣
Chad is a legend, awesome video guys :)
Is this the new test for the IRS ? 😁 That TR1 is a sexy rifle. Hopefully mine will be here before too much longer. (I ordered it in April!)
Thank you for being honest and leaving in thay we are all human and not movie level indestructible fighters. Great stuff!!!
Happy New Year you crazy Brothers. I needed a laugh and the training as always will be diligently enjoyed.
Glad you enjoyed it
Superb Skills and very informative. It is good to know some of the skills our frontline government staff need to have.
Super funny...good shooting fellas. Karl, Christmas idea for the Chadster...maybe a box set of Sesame Street dvds. 😂😂
Thanks for taking the time to list all the drills, your funny comments and your work is why I just Subd
Bunny slippers..you are killing me🤣
Happy New Year and thank you. Stay safe
Great, relevant video and presentation, I like how you handle the commercial breaks.
I like that....changing it up and not the same ole things. Keeps you on your ready. Thanks Karl and Happy New Year
Happy new year!
This vid was very entertaining (I can count to 6). I subscribed to your channel on my other account because of this. Happy New Year.
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video, demanding drills made more demanding by the high A zone accuracy addition.
this was a great vid, hilarious counting problems 🤣
Outstanding work (again). Technical, tactical, disarming, entertaining and more importantly, all while keeping it very real. You have forced me to go PATREON on you, if just to get you a small made in china calculator to slap on the side of your shoot timer. Thanks.
Thanks for the support
Good video and I enjoyed watching in and will be running this qual at my range next chance I get. I believe this is a good pistol qual, at least for the intended personnel. For obvious reasons, it does not have shooting from cover and some other things most State and Local agencies include, it is more specific to there occupation. Somebody may have already stated, but I believe this test also requires drawing from concealment and reloads are from a fully loaded firearm. Also the hit zone is about half that of what you showed on your target, but still more than you allowed.
Good job! Just subbed.
One suggestion though: set the targets closer to the berm for those kneeling shots.
Great vlog, keep up the good work and honest opinions...
It's not Chad's fault he was trying to count to six on one hand 😁 another cool video guys!! Thanks for some new stuff to try
Thanks for watching!
Harder than Chinese arithmetic! 😁😪 can't wait till Sunday's livestream 😆😆
This was a very good demonstration of the drill, and hilarious at that!! We shall incorporate this into our training..Thank you!!
good stuff! Every time I go to the range I know I should try the drills but I don't often have the range to myself so it just doesn't happen.
Scott
Your mags should drop free
Great video happy new year cant wait to see what tr has for us this year
Happy new year!
I think the other agency must be the FDA.
Seriously speaking, these are very high standards. I wonder what agency this is🤔
Doesn't matter. THey asked that we do NOT share it.
Space Force
@B. Schmidt Nope. It's FDA I'm telling you. "This chicken is only 17% steroids. GET YOUR HANDS UP!"
Did you read the TR write-up? For those of you trying to guess the agency, "shut the f#ck up".
Thanks for the honesty on the range fellas! That is some good shit!
It's for the SSD (Secret Squirrel Detachment).
Great drill! Loved that you also did it with the rifle. Super video. Thank you!
Really good COF, Karl!
I will have to try it with our unit, AND with carbine as well!!!
"If you're from West Virginia "six""
This is an awesome video! Great training, lots laughs, great people for sure!
Who is DOUG?
I didn't know you guys wore the 101st bird patch. I was in Alpha company, 2bn/327th long long long ago.
Our unit had a "5,4,3,2,1" Drill; you shoot the targets as follows= 1 round each on Targets 1-5, 1 round each on Targets 1-4, 1 round each on Targets 1-3, 1 round each
on Targets 1-2, 1 round on Target 1.
7 yards, 30 seconds, from Low Ready.
It was INSANE!
I'd love to see you guys run it
This is a good one, I’ll save it for a range day
that dosent sound hard at all. way too much time. maybe half time would be ok
@@lukakapyro , they were B27 targets. X ring is about palm size
This was a cool change of pace.
Being a Left handed rifleman, reloading for us is inherently slower, much more manipulation on the magazine. No complaint just a fact that we learn to deal with... None the less This is worth trying.
Five then one more! Been there done that LMAO! LOL, LOL
Ambi lowers are a thing. I’ve had good luck with American Defense Manufacturing. It’s good to see a fellow sinister rifle shooter.
Oh my God the 5 + 1 killed me 🤣
Especially that he literally did a 5 burst, stopped, and added 1 🤣

Would you happen to know what APFS, NAICS code etc, you enter to find gov contracts seeking firearm training instructors, live fire drills/ weapons system training or active shooter training? Thanks
Great video, team. Might have to give this one a try. Had a question about Karl’s ear pro: what brand/model is that? I’d love to try some in-ear ear pro. Thanks!
3m TEP-100 and thanks for watching.
@@TacticalRifleman Thanks!
