    My favorite thing about the overpowered series is seeing how futile my child efforts were at trying to “grind” t rexes in ff 8 and not understanding why I was barely getting stronger because enemies were also getting stronger and I wasn’t using the junction system at all. Then watching the ff8 episode and realizing that the junction system wasn’t made for children compared to the material system in ff7 lol!
    My favorite thing about Disgaea of course is the humor! The funniest thing I remember was in disgaea 1 where there was a power ranger that was about to transform and just when he was about to transform etna shot him ! And he was like why did you shoot me before I transformed ! And she was like why should I let your transform lmao !

    • @k4yser
      @k4yser 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@flamehiro exactly. Why should a progression system contradict itself? FF8 battle system wants you to not bother at all with it.

    • @tommy07robs
      @tommy07robs 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flamehiro Well Final Fantasy Tactics also scaled for the random encounters. Scaling is an interesting mechanic. I think one of my fave games did it horribly being Last Remnant. Yet the scaling in FF8 still managed to make the game fun. My friend avoided leveling up at all since boss fights don't give xp. He carded all random encounters. His only goal was getting summon points. My favorite type of system is one that doesn't utilize levels at all. Like Saga Frontier or Vandal Hearts game that was on the PS3

      I usually contrast it with the first two Paper Mario games. Mario deals with small numbers, where even a single point increase can be felt by the player. Conversely, Disgaea treats numbers like the Myth Busters treats explosions: If it is small, even if it gets the job done, something has gone wrong.

    About the video: This is what Disgea is all about, progression, finding ways to progress and make progression as efficient and fast as possible, its the best feeling climbing up in the post game to the point where you grind out characters, and this video is in the same essence of doing things as quickly as possible.

    I got into Disgaea through Prinny on PSP, put over a hundred hours getting all the badges in that game. Learned about Ulillillia through Disgaea whose content I still enjoy to this day. Put several hundred hours into Disgaea 3 on Vita, was one of less than 50 (according to the in-game world stat tracker) to fully clear the X-Dimension. I liked the SD sprites over the HD ones, and overall, it was the one I enjoyed the most, from a gameplay perspective at least. As far as this game goes, I love the art by Takehito Harada the most (especially Seraphina, Pleinair, Etna, Beryl) but the music by Tenpei Sato is a close second. Really cool to see you covering Disgaea, it's kind of rare to see these types of challenge videos for Disgaea even though it's so good for it, and also really cool of NISA to send you a review copy. I already have Disgaea 5 on PS4 and PC, so if that disqualifies me, that's fine, but if I do win by some chance, I'd gift it to one of my friends.

    Coming straight from Disgaea 1, I watched this thinking I'd be able to understand the gist of what's going on. Oh, how wrong I was... It does make me excited to lose myself in the statistical chaos of Disgaea 5, though!

    • @maladroit5581
      @maladroit5581 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you think disgaea 5 is a mess then be worried about disgaea 4. It had arguably more systems and throughout that game you were technically also running for office in demon government. You had to figure out WHERE TO PLACE your characters on the assembly screen to get the best bonuses. And then you have evilities on characters like fenrich that gives him a 30% stat increase BY STANDING NEXT TO A CHARACTER! Disgaea 5 is to 4 like disgaea 1 is to 5 and it is beautiful!

      That's the point. You can get through the entire game without knowing ANY of them either and just play it like a regular tactical RPG. My first playthrough I didn't know any of this and just played through, leveled my characters, and made it to the super bosses in carnage before even figuring out what the item world, innocents, or evilities even were. It's stupid simple to learn but stupid hard to master

    • @jlandejr

      It's the best AND worst part about these games unfortunately. If you started with the 1st, it may have been overwhelming at the time but really not as convoluted as the later games were. However, as the games went on, they improved upon existing systems while adding more and more giving some longevity to your playtime, and honestly I love how much there is to do whenever I go back and play one of these. Try some of the earlier games in the series first if you are interested! Esp a port/remaster of the 1st game, or Disgaea D2 as those are the simplest to understand

    For anyone using this and wondering why they haven't found a Testament; you need to be in an item in the Item World close to rank 32 which is the same rank that the Testament is. Higher rank items won't have this (I'm seeing bonus rewards as far as 4 levels below). I had to use an Exodus (Rank 36) and wait for RNG to show me a Rank 32 Testament.

    Disgaea is a pretty entertaining series.. I was introduced to Disgaea 2--and the absurdity of the humor, and the sheer number values. The best story I have was in Disgaea 2, where I had a group of created characters based on a circle of friends--one was made to be a thief.
    During my grind, I came across enemies that were FAR above my level.. so I decided to abuse the Steal Consciousness to force the sleep status, and then proceeded to attempt to steal from the enemy to try to grab the OP gear they had. One of the first items that I got was an item called the . I took quite a while to get that, and spent soo many SP-restoratives, that when I did give it.. I gave it to the thief purely for the humor of the thief (based on a friend), that would wear a dress and say "what.. its got good stats."
    As for what I did like about the video... Was just the stat spread of what you were able to get.. and hearing how many statuses are inflicted because of your Innocence is just bonkers.. I played this game super casually.. but hearing and seeing these numbers are just baffling to look at.

    What I like about Disgaea: It's a JRPG, that revolves around grinding. I always grind my characters to the max and max out everything possible, whenever I am near some sort of inn or resting place or some other "fill your HP up for free spot" and grind like hell in every Final Fantasy. I even look up guides for the best places to grind. Also, anime tiddies.
