I think that he also realized that the brother is the only one who was smart enough to catch on *and* protect himself (unlike the "know-it-all" who didn't protect himself even after everything that came before), so he, A. Also, as Soren noted, if he hates the whole family, giving the alcoholic a ton of wine and whiskey is basically helping him drink himself to death that much faster, so even if it's something Hedge would appreciate as a gift it's not *that* nice.

The original video got me through some hard times (i'm serious, this skit was so funny to me 15 years ago that I would watch it when I felt depression kicking in) and today I decided to search for it again due to some REALLY big changes in my life causing me a depressive spell. I'm so glad others loved the original so much that it got a touch up!

I remember hearing this one night on Doctor Demento back in the 1980s. I laughed so hard I woke up my parents. I didn't think it could be improved. I stand corrected.
The alcoholic brother reminds me of my grandfather's brother who I never met. He had a tendency to get roaring drunk on Midsummer's Eve and start fighting people... he ended up in newspapers in the 1930s and 1940s _three times_ as a result. First time, he got into a drunken argument with a colleague and hit the guy in the hip with a crowbar; the second time, he _and_ my grandfather attacked another guy with logs of firewood (???); and the third time, he poked a guy's eye out with a knife. He was arrested all three times and most likely paid fines or ended up in jail, lol. I was in stitches when I found those newspapers a few years ago. It was such stereotypical behavior for a farmer, it was like a black comedy skit. Heck, the firewood attack sounds like something out of Ace Attorney.
