    I prefer Mic B on XL and Mic A on USB. Is that odd? I was about to get the Sure MV7 Plus for an upcoming project; however, figured I would watch your review first. Glad I did. Rode Pod Mic it is.

      There's currently something funny going on with the MV7 Plus on USB The original MV7 sounds different on USB and we're all hoping that something they can maybe use a firmware update to fix, but it has like this muffled like you're talking through a wet tail type of sound or something I mean if you're listening on some cheap headphones you probably can't tell but if you're listening on anything that's capable of reproducing the audio of the way it was recorded there's something not right with the MV7 Plus on USB,. Yeah hopefully they can do a firmware upgrade and fix it

    Next time don't switch the letters/mics. The rode should always be A and the Shure should always be B.

      Yeah I think you're right about that one, probably should have kept them the same

    Thanks for your reply on the other video and really really thanks for the early access to this comparison, I can’t lie, you got me changing the order of the mic from xlr to usb, because I prefer on both xlr/usb how the “A” sound and I was like “cool I got my answer” but then you showed the results and on xlr the mv7+ sounds way better (in my opinion) while the podmic usb sounds better on usb, the Mv7+ as you mentioned has this muffled sound for some reasons, but I have read just some minutes ago that Shure is trying to adjust that, I don’t know if it’s true or even if it is possible, maybe could be just a software issue, I have no idea but for now on usb it’s terrible, the podmic on xlr has a lot of background noise, there is a reason behind that? Thanks again btw ❤

      it is possible to fix some things with a firmware update, My guess on this one is low quality preamps making it sound bad on USB. but.... maybe its a firmware problem, It will be interesting to see if they can actually fix this with a update, that would be awesome if they can fix it. as far as background Nosie i don't hear much - i might have had a nose gate on, when you stop taking it just silences the mic till you start talking again but it wont change the way anything sounds, it just mutes the mic when your not talking, i did not really hear any noise when i was silent, hears a tiny bit when speaking, i probably had my fan running so if your hearing a little nose when I'm talking it might be picking up the fan, the pod mic is pointed a little more in the direction of that fan.. sometimes i forget to turn that off before recording

      @zane4006 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews Well could be that the Mv7+ has low quality preamps, won’t doubt that but I don’t think that they are worse than the older one?! Would be too dumb to release a new version with worse preamps, it makes no sense, I hope that’s not the case, because yes the older sounds better, they confirmed that xlr is the same so I don’t really know, I guess I’ll wait some weeks to see if the situation will evolve but ye, otherwise I’ll choose the Podmic USB or the Mv7x that should sound even better than the Mv7 on xlr (at least that’s what I heard)

      @@zane4006I have heard that the MV7X sounds better but I don't actually have any experience with that one so I don't know for sure. But I guess it's hard to say what might be causing the USB output sound funny, I'm not sure if they're running the same converters and preamps or if they change them or what but that would be great if they could fix it.

    The Pod Mic sounds brighter on usb than the MV7+. I wonder if you could use Shure's Motiv Mix software to slide the tone a bit above natural and get a similar sound out of the MV7+

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You could do that to brighten it up a bit but but something is off off with the MV7+ on usb and it always sounds kind of funny. I have a full review on the mv7+ from a few days ago and i did not give it a great review, podcastage also did on the mv7+ he actually bought a 2nd one just to make sure the 1st one was not a bad mic but they both sounded funny on USB, im hoping maybe they can fix it with a firmware update, shure normally makes really nice products but something seems to be wrong with this one.

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews interesting. I have an MV7+ that I use on usb and I think it sounds fine, but also don’t have anything to compare it to lol. I mostly just use it for gaming, though, so as long as people can understand me and it doesn’t pick up a bunch of background noise it’s probably fine either way.

      The MV7 Plus doesn't necessarily sound bad but it sounds a little muffled or something That's a little bit off with it now if I listen to on an average set of headphones or over my phone speaker or something it sounds just fun but if I put on a really good set of studio monitor headphones that let you hear every detail so if it sounds a little off with the MV7 Plus on USB. It almost sounds like there's somebody putting a towel over the mic when you're talking into it or something I can't figure out a better way to explain it but it'll still sound nice overall but if you're trying to do like a professional podcast or if you're just looking to sound as good as you can possibly sound it wouldn't be my choice unless they can actually fix it with a firmware update, I've heard a few people say they're working on doing that so I would say keep a lookout on your software to see if there is any upcoming updates, maybe they'll start the sun a little better at some point but it doesn't necessarily sound bad but for the $300 you pay or almost $300 it should sound a lot closer to the way it sounds on XLR in my opinion. Now the interesting thing is the original MV7 most people thought it sounded better on USB than it did on XLR so this one's a little bit opposite I guess but anyways yeah I mean it's going to sound just fine for your average person. But for us hardcore audio nerds listening on studio monitors I can let you hear the exact details of the recording we might be a little bit overly picky lol

    Can I ask you if on your voice you prefer the sound of the Mv7+ (on xlr) or the Podmic usb on usb? I know it's a weird question but let's say you have to go for the best sound overall, what would be your pick?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would say the MV7+ does sound a little bit better when you put it on XLR compared to the pod mic on USB, When I'm comparing them both on XLR that is a tough choice. Now if somebody walked up to me and said I've got these two microphones here and you can have one of them which one would you like I'm pretty sure I would take the pod mic. And I would almost always run it on XLR but I just feel like that microphone fits my voice pretty well I don't feel like I have to eat you out any muddy frequencies to make my voice a little easier to understand like I do on some microphone so having a little bit less low end for me is surprisingly something that I like, I feel like the other microphone kind of focuses on the lower mids a little more and normally I actually cut those out on most microphones but on this one I don't really need to so I can just kind of record on that one and I don't really feel like I need to do any EQ work on the pod mic so for me I like the pod mic

      One thing I've learned is don't choose a microphone by the looks, if you're running these on XLR the road has a very natural type of sound to where the sure has that warmer broadcast/pod cast type of sound.
      On USB I would say the road is way better but sure is working on a firmware update to change the way they're microphone sounds on USB, some people really like it but a lot of it could sound a little better on USB so they're working on making some changes to try and make it sound a little closer to how it sounds on XLR which actually sounds pretty good so see any firmware updates for it definitely install them cuz it might improve the way it sounds on USB. But on XLR I think they're both excellent bikes depending on the sound you're going for

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews have you tried to use the app to increase the brighter tone? I haven't used the rode so not sure it is comparable after tune it. At least I tried to increase 50% of the brighter and it sounds much better

    • @yustdream0204
      @yustdream0204 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews makes sense but have you tried the shure app and tune it? It sounds much better after tuning to the brighter tone though. Also if there is such a huge difference for the sound performance, how come there are still more people using shure instead of rode even the price is higher

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Shure and Rode both make a lot of different microphones, unless you can look up the total sales of each you're never really going to know which one has sold more copies but this is a much newer microphone, the road has been out for quite a while so I would assume there's been more of those road microphones sold then the MV7 Plus, but on USB it kind of sounds like somebody put a towel over top of the microphone and it just has this weirdness to it, if you listen on a set of studio monitors or monitor headphones that can recreate the actual quality of the original recording you can hear something funny going on, but like I said they are working on a firmware update to make it sound a little better but to me it sounds like somebody just put a towel over top of the microphone or something not sure how else to explain it but I'm not the only one who finds that and they wouldn't be working on a fixed forward if it wasn't a problem but if you like the way it sounds that's all that matters, I think your average person would never know the difference because they're probably listening on a phone speaker or a TV speaker or some computer speakers or something, then there's the few of us who might be listening on studio monitors or high five audio headphones or monitor headphones but there's definitely something funny about it on USB. If you watch the review I made on it you'll be able to hear a big difference between the way it sounds if you're listening on a decent to the headphones

    they both aren't good as SM7B

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I agree with that but at the same time these are a few things i would think about. The SM7 b is quite nice but these offer something a little different. the sm7b is about about 2x the price of the rode and does not let you just plug it in to the pc and start recording. , lets just say you spend 200 bucks on the rode to get you started your good to go for 200 bucks. if you buy a sm7b, a xlr cable and a interface that is gonna be like 500-700 + bucks which is a huge price difference. . the other thing to think about is the sm7b it kind of depends on your voice and room acoustics, the sm7b can sound great on some voices, especially if your have a high pitched voice, but its so dark and bassy its not always great for someone with a deeper voice and if your room is not treated and your room has a low end resonance it can sound extremely muddy. i had a hell of a time with extremely muddy recordings before i got some rom treatment when i first got a SM7B, if you really think about it with the rode you can spend 200 bucks and your done for a while , that is unless you want to something else upgrade later. so its really a great value for the money. i would say the same about he mv7+ but i don't think it sound good on USB so im not sure that mic is worth the almost 300 bucks. i hear they might be able to fix it with a firmware update at some point.. but if you look at value for the money the rode probably wins for your average person who just wants to get a mic that sounds nice.
