    All your microphones sound horrible. It seems to me that a denoiser or a limiter is causing problems. Also, an EQ that accentuates the lower frequencies of your voice woud be beneficial. Maybe a slight reverb. Sound is subjective but with your equipment you should sound better. Good luck.

      I don't EQ these microphone reviews or comparisons, I don't compress them I don't use a limiter I basically just adjust the volume sliders and try to get all the microphones at the same volume and make sure there's no clipping happening but I don't edit the audio at all, I kind of have a darker sounding voice that has a lot of energy in the lower mid-range but not much anywhere else so you probably just don't like the sound of my voice, The MV7 Plus sounds dull and dead on USB, I've actually spoken to sure about this and they're working on a firmware upgrade to change it since me and podcast it made the reviews and complained to them about the microphone not sounding good on USB

      Nope, I just have a dull sounding voice, if I add a little presence in high end that definitely spruce's things up a little bit but I feel it's probably better just to let people hear the mics as they are when doing a review.

      That's a tough choice, I like both of these microphones a lot, I feel like the fifine sounds a little bit smoother and probably has a little bit less sibilannce, I think I like it just a little bit better on my voice, I would probably go with the AM8, I'm not 100% sure which one will fit your voice better but they're both very nice, but I do like them both a lot

      You're welcome, a lot of people really enjoy the way This microphone and it's little brother sounds, if you're using this on USB and you're using the software I think they actually add to the couple more bills and whistles to it recently which is nice if you like those features, I've been meaning to get around to making a new video that just goes over the software since they've made the changes, I think they add it like a noise suppressor or a noise gate or something like that in there, which is nice but generally I don't use those because if you haven't set wrong they can kind of wreck your audio quality or if it's true noise suppression where it's just trying to always have the microphone live but remove the unwanted sounds that'll often wreck your audio quality but they did add some of the settings in there if you want them which is neat but hey glad you like the video, thanks for checking it out

    Great Video! Do you think it’s better than the Tonor you reviewed? I’m between the two of them

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      between this and the toner, there are two very different microphones they give you very different sounds, This is what I consider a cheapie microphone that gives you a somewhat natural sound, I think whatever we recorded with it sounds pretty similar to the original sound source. The tonor has that darker broadcast/podcast type of tone, it cost a little more and does not come with the boom arm. Jen are you going to pay like 15 to 20 bucks for one of those basic boom arms so if you're buying this with the kit it's like paying 20 bucks for the arm and 15 bucks for the microphone or something along the lines of that. This one distorts a little bit When you get louder and the toner probably won't, The toner sounds a bit hollow and weird if you get too close to it, sounds nice if you back it away a little bit, they're both budget microphones, I'm sure there will be more reviews of this one coming out soon so my advice is listen to as many reviews of both as you can and figure out which one seems to sound the best to you on the most people's voices, I mean for under a hundred bucks there's a lot of good choices. For under 50 bucks you're not going to find a whole lot so if you're just looking to spend as little as possible and sound nice I think this little microphone is a good option. My advice is figure out what's the most you want to spend and then start watching as many reviews as possible for microphones under that price range and see one you think is going to fit your needs, but honestly if I couldn't spend very much money and I got this kit I could easily make this work I mean 35 bucks for a little microphone and a boom arm is crazy good especially since it sounds pretty decent.

  • @snubdawg1386

    do you really think it sounds better as the sm7b on your voice?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, sometimes, I ended up doing some a/b testing between the two on a couple of different days and honestly a person's voice can sound different from day to day, or even at different times of the day I mean I'm sure you've heard the term morning voice or your voice sounds a little different in the morning, most of the time I feel like the SM7B is a little bit too dark sounding for my voice,, I don't have as much high-end or high mid frequencies in my voice as some people and the SM7B seems to pick up more of the low in frequencies so when you put those two things together sometimes it can give you a dull sounding recording, now this microphone boosts the high-end and the mid-range up a bit yet still gives you that warm sound people like in the SM7B, but every once in a while I get a recording where I'm like man that sounded great on the SM7B and my most days I think it sounds kind of bland so if I get the SM7B positioned just right and I record first thing in the morning I can get some pretty nice quality recordings on the SM7B but throughout the day I think my voice starts to sound a little hoarse and dull so I guess it really depends on what time of day I do the recording but generally I like something that boost the high-end and high mids up a little more on my voice, I really don't feel like the SM7B is a great fit for my voice. Occasionally I get a recording where I'm like oh man that sounded amazing but most time I'm like eh it sounds too dark or too basie for my voice, but I just don't think the SM7B is correct for me now if you've got a lot of high-end or high mid-range frequencies in your voice the SM7B often sounds amazing so really it just depends on the person

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews thanks for the long answer....unfortunately i also have a voice that sounds pretty different on different days....not just the usually morning voice thing...i just listened through laptop speakers but the highend of the lauten ls-208 and the ss sometimes sound digital harsh, exactly what i hate on most condensers...i'm testing the lauten la-220 v2 right now and on my voice it has the same problem in the high end...my sm7b sometimes sounds great and perfect for some songs...on other days and different songs it sounds too muddy and not high-res enough....i hope i can try the roswell k series mics next and if they don't fit, i think i will just record with a combo of sennheiser mkh416 and sm7b and take the recording that fits better the song

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You might want to look up some videos on how to use high pass and low pass filters, if you're finding some of the high frequencies to sound extra harsh, you might want to do a mild low pass filter which lets the low frequencies pass through but it cuts off a little bit of the high end so it's a little bit confusing on low pass versus high pass just like when you do a high pass it cuts off some of the base frequencies but let's all the high frequencies pass through but you also want to make sure you're listening on something that's capable of reproducing the recording because if you're trying to mix or EQ on the wrongs to the headphones it's often not going to sound right when you listen to it on the next thing, for example most audio engineers will listen to their mix on there computer as they're editing and then when they're done they'll take it out to the car the home stereo the phone and listen to it on like five or six different things to make sure it's still sounds right on all of them but it's much easier if you're mixing with monitors but a little bit of EQ work can fix some high end frequencies and that loughton does have a little bit of harshness in the high ends but it's really easy to fix that with a low pass filter now this is something that's also really important to think about Listening through laptop speakers won't even come close to giving you the full reproduction of what it recording sounds like, if you really want to hear the recording and all it's glory you need to get a set of studio monitor or monitor headphones as those are designed to try and play back the recording and let you hear what the recording actually sound like I mean even listening on my home my stereo is different than what you get over monitors, for example like a home stereo or a normal set of headphones is just designed to make music sound good to wear a set of monitors is designed to let you hear exactly what the recording sounds like But phone speakers, laptop speakers, TV speakers or even a basics to the cheap headphones won't really give you the full story Hopefully that all came out correctly I just talk into the phone and it types it out and this had to headphones doesn't it was good at picking up what I say correctly is the other ones I normally wear so hopefully there's not a bunch of typos lol, I can only see like two or three lines of the chat on this app so trying to go through it all and find typoses and nightmare cuz they don't let you see enough of it I did email Roswell recently and part of the email said hey ignore this part if you're not able to do it but I have a TH-cam channel and I would like to review one of your microphones if you can send one out and they replied about the main thing but didn't reply to that so I guess they're not going to send one but unfortunately it's pretty hard to be able to dump five 600 bucks on a microphone to make a video that's going to get like 30 cents lol or a couple dollars, but I have one of those on my shopping list and someday, maybe someday I'll pick one up, just had to rebuild a computer so that was a large chunk of money I didn't plan on spending right there

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews i'm pretty happy with my monitoring setup, i mix and check on studio monitors, 2 pairs of headphones, tv speakers, and phone speakers....car check is also important but if the mix works on all of the above it usually also works in the car....i meant i listened to this video right here just over laptop speakers and there is this high frequence resonance with your lauten...similar to my lauten la-220 v2 that i checked over different monitor settings, don't know if just a highcut will help with that...i guess i'll send my lauten back and try others mics instead

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Okay I thought you meant you were mainly just listening on your laptop, I'm actually surprised you're hearing some harshness on that Lauten you have, they seem like very smooth microphones but not every microphone is right for every person's voice, I think you might want to look for a microphone with more of a flat EQ curve if you're finding the high end to be too harsh. A lot of microphones will usually have between a three and six decibel boost on the high end, generally you can cut off a lot of that with a low pass if you're interested in getting a slightly darker sound,. Lauten makes crazy good stuff I think most of their microphones should probably cost more than they're charging for them. I know you mentioned the Roswell Mike's I'm not sure if you were thinking about getting them but the k67x with the transformer inside, sounds pretty cool and I think it gives you a little bit of a darker sound. th-cam.com/video/v_woeI4sNWY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KRZ-rarLngeiKcxb there's a good review video on that one, One of these days I would love to pick that up along with one or the other microphones but I think that might be a nice one to try out if you're finding the high-end to be a little harsh on the lautens

      I was always hoping to get invited to the Amazon Vine thing, I used to leave a lot of reviews but eventually I got lazy and stopped leaving the reviews on Amazon lol, sounds like you just have to leave a lot of reviews and hope they pick you, not sure, but as far as this little microphone it's not bad I mean if I put on some studio monitor headphones from mixing professional audio I definitely hear some flaws and some issues but the overall sound signature is pretty neutral, it doesn't sound tinny or boxy or anything like that I mean it just has a natural ish sound, you really can't beat it for $35. Now if you're using an equalizer I mean there's a lot of different VST plugins that you can use on your audio editing software or if you have a VST host or something like that, I don't remember mentioning that on this particular video I think I was just talking about the way of the company set the EQ curve at the factory, like if you build your own microphone as your soldering the little transistors and resistors in there's certain pieces you can change to give it more high-end or more low end or more mids so they kind of EQ it from the factory and then if you feel that you need to remove a couple of bad frequencies or need the boost to high end or at a little bit of presence, fabfilter pro Q3, is amazing but it's pretty expensive, The free TDR Nova, or the free reaper EQ, The waves f6 is a affordable EQ that a lot of people love, it's a great EQ but I don't prefer the user interface but it's a very good one for the money. if you go over to reaper's website they not only have audio editing software software That's really good and really portable but kind of complicating, they also have a free package of plugins that work on other digital to audio workstations they also work on OBS studio and stuff like that for recording your TH-cam videos or live streaming, I've never actually tried APO but that looks pretty interesting cuz I'm correct that's designed to work with windows itself, but in the professional audio world you normally you don't want to have to do too much EQ, when you record something you want it to be like 90 or 95% finished, you should only need a little tiny bit of EQ to maybe remove a couple of bad frequencies that the microphone or the room was giving off, some compression to control the water parts and quieter parts so they're closer together. And then if you're going to add some reverb or delay which you don't really want to do to a speaking voice you throw that in there and then finally throw a limiter on it to push it up to the volume you want and to make sure it never goes over that specific volume so if you're trying to hit like the loudness standards for Netflix or Spotify or even TH-cam you can use your limiter to get it to the exact volume those platforms are looking for but audio editing is something that takes a very long time to learn, some of the things that seem the most complicated are actually the easiest but the hardest thing is getting good at learning to EQ, especially if you don't have the right to the headphones because you can listen to the same track on your car stereo three sets of headphones your home stereo and it's going to sound different on everything so if you find a set of headphones or studio monitors that follow the Harmon curve or at least are really close to it generally you can get a mix that sounds good on everything Make your EQ work a little bit easier, for spoken word I try to eat you as little as possible sometimes less is more but like I said you're recording should be about 90 or 95% ready to publish when it comes to recording a speaking voice at least, now if you're recording drums or guitars or anything else I mean you can do some pretty interesting stuff with the effects. All right sorry I'm rambling on lol I like talking about audio stuff.

    Can Scarlett Solo power the Shure Sm7b ?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, The fourth generation should have just a ittle more gain than the third gen not a lot more I think it's only a couple of decibels more, but I used a third generation with a SM7B for a long time, The third generation Scarlet Solo has just enough gain to make that happen, as long as your using proper microphone placement, of course when completely cranking a preamp you do get a very light amount of white noise type sound in the background but it's so small you really have to have the volume cranked to even be able to notice it's there when listening back to the recording, the 4th generation Scarlet looks like it has a little bit more gain than the third generation but I used a third generation and a SM7B for a long time and had absolutely no complaints. I will say this you might want to look at a 2i2 if you don't already own an interface because a lot of people will buy a interface that only holds one microphone and eventually realize hey I would really love to have two mics, but the third generation 2i2 and the solo have about the same amount of gain but when it comes to the fourth generation the 2i2 has more gain than the solo, the fourth generation 2i2 is really nice and that's my main audio interface to the music right now, if you're talking about a first or a second generation Scarlet solo I think you might need to get a fathead or a cloud lifter to boost the gain up a little bit but with proper microphone placements I had no problem running a SM7B on a third generation Scarlet solo and I was very happy with the overall results. The little bit of preamp noise I got from cranking it to almost Max was barely noticeable at normal listening volumes like I said you really have to crank up the volume on playback even though this that it's there but some people are extra picky and walk like that, for me it was no big deal whatsoever.

I do remember a few times in the past the company did a few things that a lot of people didn't like but I've never really had any issues with them myself. I was a little upset when they decided they were going to be a subscription service only but they quickly decided to go ahead and make the subscription and keep selling the plugins individually too so I'm glad they didn't go to subscription only

    Do you recommend the Silk Live for live streaming EQ?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think that's a great plugin and you can use it live I mean it's kind of similar to the soothe plug-in from another company that cost a crap load of money, now if you crank the dials up too high it's going to wreck your sound, When I use silk vocals I normally get good results by putting the low end on about maybe 5 to 10 and then I put the mids in the highs on summer between 20 and 30 and that does remove a lot of the bad frequencies without affecting the overall sound quality,, The built-in compressor on that is decent I like the aravox compressor but I might just be nitpicking there so it does have a nice built-in compressor but the only thing bad about the silk vocal is the high-pass filter cuts off so much of the low end it's going to change the way your voice sounds drastically so I always make sure I turn off the high pass filter on that plugin so if you use that plug in sparing link it can do a great job of getting rid of a lot of the bad resonating frequencies, now if you're recording in a super horrible room that's just full of nasty revenant resonance it might struggle but if you're recording in a decent room I think that's a really good overall plugin as long as you use it sparingly I mean for a speaking voice less is Morris sometimes you don't want to overdo anything on a speaking voice but it really does make your voice sound nice used properly. Just don't overdo it and you'll probably get some pretty good results, I always enjoy the results I get from it If you're trying to use it with OBS studio make sure you download the free Waves studio rack plugin that allows you to use their plugins on OBS, without it they don't generally work but studio racks really cool and I use it on my live streams on my gaming channels

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I did a live stream on my gaming channel and since you asked I decided to use silk vocal live, and the only other plug-in I ran was the WLM Plus with true peak limiter, if you start this video at around 14 minutes in I think I had it adjust it to where I wanted around 14 minutes in th-cam.com/users/livexI-WCK4lzqI?si=ByqqLpN1TsWF63Se but there is a link todays live stream where I was using it, when I first started the stream up I think I played with a controls a little bit, made a couple two weeks every couple of minutes and then ended up with the Lowe's on 5, mids on about 35 and the highs on about 50%, using a SSL 2 plus interface with a road pod mic which is known to be a little harsh on the high frequencies so that's a good mic to test this plug-in with, I think it made it sound pretty nice

      For the money I think this microphone will make most people sound really good if they're using it properly, and it's got the software which gives you a limiter and a compressor and I think they added a few extra things to it like noise and it's got the software which gives you a limiter and a compressor and I think they added a few extra bills and whistles to that software recently which is pretty cool, so if you're using this as a USB microphone you can set the VST effects and those get saved to the microphone and anytime you plug it in and anytime you plug it in with a USB cable it'll automatically use those effects as you last set them, there is a couple of really awesome sounding budget microphones out there and this is one of my favorites

      I've never tried to use two of this particular microphone, normally you can plug in more than one of the same USB microphone but what it sounds like is your computer is not recognizing that they're two different devices, I don't know if you're on PC or Mac but I don't want Windows you can rename a device once you plug it in, I can't remember offhand how you find those settings but I remember doing this once or twice in the past, I think I found these settings through the device manager if I remember correctly but there was a time when I had two audio interfaces of the same brand and the computer wasn't recognizing them separately so I changed the name of one on Windows and then it recognized them as two separate devices, you can probably do a Google search or a TH-cam search on how to rename a device and if that doesn't work I'm not 100% sure what else you could try, you may also be able to Google search this subject and find a couple of other possible workarounds, if you're on a Mac or an Apple computer I actually don't know anything about those but I've had good luck in the past renaming a device on Windows when I had two similar things and it didn't recognize them as separate devices

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes There's one problem with that, When you get really close to certain microphones they sound overly bassy and sometimes very unnatural, The Lauten is actually designed for speaking really close, I think the NT1 gets too much proximity effect when you're that close to it. Generally a condenser microphone about 6 in away is k Often the sweet spot to get a natural sound out of it, dynamic microphones are designed to be like 2 to 3 in in front of your face which is kind of what they have tried to design this Lauten microphone. it gets a bit of proximity effect but at like three inches away and you don't have much when you're right up on top of it. If you can find a condenser that sounds great when you eat it then you could get similar results unless it's one of those overly sensitive microphones. . Now if I do the same thing on my Neumann it's so sensitive even if I'm eating it it still picks up decent amount of reverb, what's really interesting is the mic that picks up the most reverb that I own is probably the Lewitt LCT 440 pure, but how close you can get to a microphone and keep it sounding nice depends on the microphones proximity effect

    I got this mic a couple days ago but i found it to be too quiet, i had it fully maxed on the gain knob as well as on windows settings but still the volume was low, since i have a quiet voice and don't have a mic arm(so the mic is quite far from me) what would you recommend for around the same price as the AM8?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A dynamic microphone is not designed to be used from a distance, a dynamic microphone should be between 3 and 6 in away from your mouth and it should definitely be up on a boom arm which you can get for about 20 bucks. There are some huge advantages to having a dynamic microphone and having it a couple inches in front of your mouth on a boom arm If you truly need to have the microphone further away you would probably want to look at a large diaphragm condenser or a small diaphragm condenser but the thing is for best results you still want to have that about 4:00 to 6 in for best results you still want to have that between 4 and 8 in away from your mouth, When you get the microphone say an arm length are two arms lengths away and you're running a condenser Mic You're still going to have to crank the gain up really high and it's going to pick up all the room reverb it's going to pick up every mouse click every keyboard click every noise in the background which can lead to really terrible audio quality, This is why I'm recording studios or any type of professional audio room they will sound treat the walls the ceilings the floors to absorb all the reverb and some of them will even soundproof the room so no sound can get in so the condenser microphones not picking up all the outside noises, a good condenser microphone will pick up everything. I feel like your best bet is get yourself a cheap boom arm and clamp it to your desk or maybe even pick up a floor standing microphone stand with adjustable length, I'm not sure what your seating situation looks like but one of the other would be a great choice, I can't really think of a good USB condenser microphone that you're going to finding the $50 price range. You could pick up a audio interface in between 50 and 100 bucks and a SE electronics SE7 small diaphragm condenser microphone for about 99 bucks and a XLR cable, I think audio Technica makes a really nice AT-2020 USB condenser microphone for around $99 but you might want to check out this video right here which will kind of demonstrate what I'm talking about about the audio quality I mean this will just show you how much less reverb a dynamic will pick up compared to a condenser, your room probably won't be as bad as this but it could be if your room is really empty and not carpet it or anything th-cam.com/video/19Nw5KvpSkE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Dr6iTJjZMo8_ienP

    Great review 👍 & quality of testing. So good I just skipped back to your multi mic review vid & web cam reviews. I DO need a close to 4k clip on vid/webcam 4 biz/travel use. 🤔 There's a flat small new 1 being advertised on Amazon that I need to check, keep skipping past the advert. IMO this mic is VERY directional & honestly I liked how it sounded up close the best. If it came with a Halo mount......& 4 me, a bit too large for my carry on setup but if I did home pod studio absolutely. Apologies. Didn't notice the SM58 box in the background before. So you definitely know the industry commercial standard & what it sounds like 👌. I've got newer/older multiple SM58s left over from 🎵 days. Pretty much standard for everything from DJ to Pro Sound Reinforcement Co's as they've always been bulletproof/drop proof on/off stage work for me. Worst I've done in 7+ years of use is a mild dent on 1 metal mesh screen/mic head. Still worked perfectly after. Just replaced the shield. IMO I'd be interested to hear if there's a new inexpensive , not SM58, musical vocal mic you'd recommend? Or have tested? Maybe the $200 Samsung you tested? I'd like a lighter, smaller, cheaper? Vocal open condenser mic, especially w/a plastic body for travel as I sample in the wild & bass/drum lines are so often sampled, & can be anything after warping/gating/effects. Plastic body doesn't matter to me as that mic wouldn't be subject to much abuse. I'm surprised you don't use a "spit/pop" screen to help with sibilance while testing. I'm always looking/interested in everything latest tech, & SM58's + wireless pack or cords still weigh a ton to carry around IMO. USB kinda changed everything. Today I'm even surprised @ how good lapel/BT mics are. Used 1 to pick up/do ASMR recently (wasn't carrying anything else that day outdoors) & was surprised @ how well it came out. Sigh, it's a never ending new gear cycle isn't it? You're right though, $40-$50 is a ridiculously low entry price for a decent mic BTW. Like the cost of a good pizza or dinner. Again, my only concern with anything IDK the name brand of is longevity. Testing 20k+ mah Power Banks & BT speakers from Amazon for personal use, I'm a huge fan of the ANKER brand from CH (bigger than Sony now). Bought 4 different MIChina brand PB's with incredibly disappointing results. H8 returning stuff! Thanks again for the reviews.

      Hey hey, there's so much here I'm having a hard time remembering all of it to reply to but, ankerr makes awesome stuff, I have quite a few high-end microphones from Shure, road, Neumann, SE electronics Sennheiser and so on and I've had a lot of these budget companies sending me their microphones to review and honestly when you're looking at something that's like 50 bucks or 70 bucks, if it sounds nice and works well it's hard to give it a bad review because if you need to you can just plug it into your computer with a USB and you don't need to go out and spend 200 bucks on an audio interface so it'll get you off to a really good start for not a lot of money and anybody who's just doing TH-cam or podcasting or something kind of those sound more than good enough, at least some of the newer USB microphones, used to be most USB microphone sound pretty lousy but they just keep getting better which is nice As far as recording music I mean DSM 57 is probably one of the most popular instrument microphones and the SM58 is one of the most popular live vocal microphones but any good pro quality microphone is capable of recording music, for example a recording studio may put an SM57 up to a guitar cabinet and do a test recording and then they might put a SE electronics SE8 up to that scene guitar cabinet and maybe they'll throw a Neumann u87 up against it and I'll do some test recordings and figure out which one seems to sound best for that current guitar tone but I think you said you were looking for something small, a lot of small diaphragm condensers are very small and sound very good, they're a little bit more accurate and pick up detail a little quicker but since they're small diaphragm instead of large diaphragm condensers they may not pick up quite as much low end but something like the SE electronics SE7 or SE8 could be something to look at, but you would definitely need a really good pop filter if you were singing into one of these small diaphragm condensers, there are a lot smaller than your average handheld microphonec or a large diaphragm condenser but there's a lot of companies that make those little small diaphragm condensers, some of them can get pretty darn expensive some of them are affordable, I don't do a lot with recording music these days, but I used to work with music here and there I mean my buddy used to own a recording studio around how about sometimes and I ran sound for bands here and there, always record up my own music back in the day, I played in some bands and all kinds of stuff so I've been into audio for a long time,, so I on my way around audio stuff pretty good I mean would it comes to the real technical details like how ohms and transistors and this and circuit boards work well I don't know much about that stuff I mean I know some guys who build their own microphones and they know every little thing about the electronics and how it works but I never really got into that kind of stuff, would be fun but I don't have that good of a memory lol

      Yes but I do think they make some little contraptions that are made to do this, in audio interface really isn't made for this but I'll tell you how you can do it if you need to. You can get a y adapter that has two quarter inch jacks going into 1 1/8 in Jack, you plug the quarter inch jacks into the monitor output on the interface and then you plug the 1/8th inch jack into the cameras microphone input, those monitor outs are really supposed to go to a set of studio monitors but you can use them to hook it to a camera with the right y adapter. I know for a fact that this works on at least some interfaces I would imagine it probably works on all interfaces to have monitor outs but This isn't something I've tried on several different interfaces, but we're really boils down to you is this should work but these interfaces are designed to be plugged into a computer and those outputs are really designed for a studio monitor but I know on the SSL interface this works just fine, it worked on my old Scarlet interface but I haven't tested it on one of the newer ones.

      You're welcome, cheap microphones used to be terrible then a couple of decent ones popped up and after covet hit everybody was working for home and needed microphones for their work meetings in zoom calls and everybody wanted to be a TH-camr so a lot of these companies started to make higher quality cheap microphones that will make you sound really nice, I mean you're not going to record a hit album with these but you can easily run a podcast or a TH-cam channel or anything like that off of some of them. really high-end microphone will definitely sound more natural and pick up the sound source closer to the way it actually sounded, they'll usually pick up a lot more detail as well but those are the things you want to look into getting when you own a recordings studio or you've got some sort of gig or you're making money with your microphone, if you buy the right inexpensive microphone I doubt anybody's ever going to complain about your audio quality unless you're doing something wrong. There's also a lot of people who are just listening on their phone speakers who would never know the difference between us $3,000 microphone in a $70 microphone Funny thing is on nitpick a expense of microphone more than a cheap one because if it's cheap and it sounds decent you can't complain too much but if you're spending like 300 bucks or 600 bucks and there's some issues I mean for that kind of money it really shouldn't be any major things to complain about but sometimes there are but you buy a little $50 AM8 and maybe made out of cheap plastic and whatnot but for 50 bucks it's going to be hard to find anything that sounds better than that

      The PD 200x has USBC and it also has some software where you can use a compressor in a limiter and stuff like that and I do think that's going to sound really good on most people's voices, The Samsung has some weird old school USB connector and doesn't give you any bills and whistles, it probably hasn't overall more natural sound but for some people I guess it can sound a little bit sibilant where the s sounds are a little bit harsh or shrill I mean any microphone can if somebody's voice is sibilant but some will make that stand out more than others Personally I like the PD 200x, it gives you more of that podcast broadcast type of sound where I think the Samsung does sound a little more natural but one thing you need to remember is everybody's room acoustics and voice are different and each microphone will react to those two things differently so what suits my voice better may or may not be the one that suits your voice better so you want to listen to as many reviews as you can find so you can hear how they sound on all kinds of different voices before you make your decision but I think they're both great microphones overall but may personally I would go with the PD 200x just because I like the looks a little better and it does come with some fun software which will give you a compressor a limiter EQ and all kinds of stuff, you may or may not be interested in that I don't know but that's definitely a plus

    Hi Danny, excellent take on Hi $ v. Low $ Mics. I'm taking a self-imposed break for 3 days from WR, new sub & viewer. IMO I believe that every new YTuber/Vloggers believes they need the latest & greatest, but "Open Condenser" Mics & build quality have changed SO much & dropped in cost since 2019-Covid era when everyone & their sister decided to try & turn to YT as a revenue stream. 🤔 My only concern is longevity in any sub $80-$120 mic NOT from a major manufacturer+ warranty. Made in China tech, especially on Amazon usually are sold under @ least 3 different brands for broader market saturation. I'm pretty sure if you were in a band, you had @ least 2 Shure SM58's 😁. 🤔 Perhaps a vid if you haven't done 1 yet on different types of Mics. Basically everything vocal RN is Open Condenser design. I've used pretty much every type from plate mics to ? IMO I like & emulate Finneas 's travel/carry on, setup & the only reason I have an 🍎M2/16gig laptop + $120 Open Condenser Mic, PreAmp, Studio grade older AKAI headphones but I don't carry around a MIDI controller. Too bulky. Hey, if it's good enough for him to win 2or 3 "Best Producer, Best Engineering , Best Album Grammy's+an Academy Award, it's good enough for me, just use different brands but similar setup. I like to play with audio, mixer, warping, definitely video & DJ software @ times & stay up to date on gear & software. Creators get millions of viral views from recreating famous songs in real time using just an iPhone. Crazy, but a fun 5 minute vid to watch. Of course if your Beyonce or Adele for instance, you're probably singing into a $30k-$130k Sennheiser.......& IMO & experience, the urban legend of "saving it in the mix" isn't possible. A bad take is a bad take, or session. I wasn't dissing your KB skills previously. That looping clip just cracked me up. & I come from a competitive classical piano background music wise from 4yo-23yo. Music /Piano was my undergrad Major, then Minor, when I figured out getting a job w/a music degree, even in the industry in LA was too many years & NOBODY CARED. Unless you graduated from Juilliard, & got an MA as well (Berklee SOM is a joke IMO & they'll take anyone who can get enough financial aid or pay). & 2nd year thru Grad school Music Theory class was usually @ 8:30 am & 1/2 way across campus. NOT a morning person that age & switched my Undergrad Major my last year. Point is nobody needs a band anymore to make good music, or a band. Even live. Ed Sheeran proved that years ago when he sold out Wembley for 3? Nights & it was just him, a guitar, mic, looping/effects stomp box setup & nobody else playing. Nice to see you haven't let your myriad of illnesses keep you down. Seriously allergic to a Hamster? Dogs? So sorry. Besides actually liking the 1+ cell's you shouted out on a Q&A, I mentioned them hoping you'd add them to your list & hopefully get a "spiff" as an Amazon affiliate. My longest 12 year+ subscription to anything, although since 2022, it's been dodgy buying big ticket tech due to 3rd Party Sellers. Never returned anything in 10 years, then I got an obviously used Galaxy S & a previously exchanged AMD top end laptop. Had to return both. Unfortunately I can't buy Google Play w/all that credit. 😢😱 I'm not into CSR, did check out your channel briefly. Maybe I'll try it again, but IMO there's obv a PayWall @ certain cars/levels & drag strip type games are just reaction time, luck & which car/mods you have. Used to love GT3 mobile though as racing games go. I've played MLB/9 innings for 10 years @ that has cost me maybe $2 in 10 years & they have made the game better every upgrade & finally got rid of the artificial max 95 team ranking in the last year. Fun game if you like baseball. Watched & liked your adjustable height desk vid on this channel & the EQ/voice effects video. I learned very early to keep the Sound board EQ pots flat doing anything spoken word, not music, especially live, pre-all digital filters/Auto tune. Was very surprised you use any EQ on your voice or add treble in the mix. Sorry. This is a long response to 3-4 of your vids. All informative vids btw. Hope you grow this channel but obv WR's is the main one. 👍 I'm still trying to avoid Champions league for now. I didn't realize that you're a Level 43? I thought level's stopped @ 30? No matter how good/long you'd played. Had a 🫐 teammate last week that was in Champions that wasted 1/2 the battle shooting me & trying to push me w/a Shen Lou. Weird. 2x that's happened. After, I looked @ his Stats & bots. All MK3 across 3 different hangers w/maxed Titans. Surprising was his 47k+ battles won w/a 38% win avg. I've played maybe 1k battles now w/a 52-56% win ratio only playing Domination mode. I know you can get crazy 80%+ in different modes as top 3 is considered a win. Stay Cool & healthy during this heat dome.

      Hey hey,, The main reason to EQ a voice is sometimes your room or your microphone just picks up specific bad frequencies or if there's not enough high-end on the recording let's just say you have a darker voice or microphone your voice can be a little hard to understand when you get some background music or game sounds going or anything like that, you definitely want to cut any frequencies that are higher pitched or deeper than the human voice that way you don't have any room rumbles or high pitch squeals that you may or may not notice that somebody else might, I mean generally if your EQing a speaking voice you shouldn't have to do much just a few little tweaks here and there. as far as inexpensive microphones, that used to be a mistake to go out and spend 30 bucks or 50 bucks on the microphone but these inexpensive microphones just keep getting better and better fifine seems to be dominating the inexpensive microphone market right now and for a good reason. It's good to have nice microphones but for somebody who's just starting out you can definitely get something that'll make you sound nice for very little money if you know which brands actually make the good inexpensive stuff But pretty much everybody will put EQ on their voice if they know how to work with audio but generally you just want to do a little bit You're not trying to do anything drastic if you have to do anything to drastic then you probably need to work on your room acoustics or microphone placement or something or.

      You're welcome, generally you can sit up just about any compressor quickly spoken word and as long as you're not compressing too heavily you'll be fine I mean if you really want to push it you can do about five or six decibels of compression in your speaking voice or if you're just looking the tame the peaks a little bit you know two or three decimals is good for your normal speaking voice, if you want super simple you get like a LA2A or a waves R Vox then all you really got to worry about is one control to determine how much compression you're getting, and everything else is already set up the way you need it but it's amazing how many controls are on some compressors that most people will never even use but some audio engineers who are excellent and really have mastered the craft and compression might use a lot of those extra bills missiles but for average person we just need to worry about attack release and threshold for the most part at least on most compressors

    Hello Danny, Do I need a cloud lifter for it? Thanks

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Cloud lifters generally only work on a dynamic microphone, I think there are some condenser microphone specific game boosters you can get but this should not need one, if I remember correctly I think I have my gain on about 12:00 or maybe 2:00 with this microphone, your audio interface should have a dental power button on it and a condenser microphone will require you to turn that on but it condenser will take a lot less game than a dynamic mic so I have never had a condenser microphone that would need a cloud lifter if you're using the microphone properly I mean if you're trying to put it all the way across the room something like that you may have a hard time getting out of them just plug it into your interface turn on the fan of power and crank up the game knob until you get the recording volume around -15 decibels at the peak and of course on the editing software you just use your limiter or turn up the volume on the track until it's the volume level for whatever your uploading it to but no camera you really should not need any type of a game booster for a dynamic but no camera you really should not need any type of a game booster for a dynamic condenser microphone, you do have to give this someone a little bit more gain than most condensers but definitely not as much as a gain hungry dynamic

    great video, i have a question. I am looking to either get the re-20 or ls 208 for home vocal recording. I have a baritone voice and a semi treated room, but it can get loud sometimes with family in the house. Taking that into account which mic do you think would be best for me?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The RE20 is a great microphone, so is the ls208. Both of them sound great and I think either one works well on a baritone type of voice but every person's voice and room acoustics are different so it's a little hard to say which one will work better for your voice when recorded in your room, now this is where you're going to run into a problem You're talking about loud family or recording in a noisy room, microphones are designed to pick up sound, especially in the direction that the microphone is pointed, they can definitely pick up less from the sides in the back but if the sounds on the side of the back are loud enough it's still going to be picked up,,,, there's really no microphone out there that's going to be able to pick up just your voice, now you could try something like waves clarity VX, super tone clear, if you're using dream Labs aerobia studio to record those two haven't always suppression you can turn on, rx11 elements by isotope has some pretty good stuff for removing background noise but those can only do so much, and the more background noise the higher you have to crank them up and the harder it is for the software to fix that which means the possibility of decreasing or possibly just killing your audio quality completely, not the background sounds or other people's voices a lot of those are designed to keep the voices and try and remove the rest so it's pretty hard to get rid of a lot of background sounds I mean most of those are great to get rid of a fan in the background or an air conditioner or a hum or a hiss but when there is a loud dog barking, people talking or even your keyboard clacking if you have a loud keyboard it's probably going to have a hard time removing those noises unless they're nice and quiet in the background and then it will definitely reduce them to where you can barely tell her there but unfortunately microphones pick up noise The r820 would probably be slightly better if use correctly and placed correctly as it is a dynamic bike I mean the Lawton is almost as good as a dynamic mic when it comes to rejecting background sounds because you can get pretty close to it without too much proximity effect which will allow you to keep the gain turn down lower and then you can just use a gain filter or limiter plug into boost the recording up to the proper volume But I think either one of these microphones would probably do you well but unfortunately background noise is going to be an issue on pretty much any microphone unless it's just light background noise. But it's going to be really hard not to capture or get rid of the sound of loud family members. For example a professional voice actor will often build a 100% soundproofed and sound treated boo where no noise can come in or out and they also have the sound treatments remove all of the reverb as well, but even a really quiet bedroom you might still hear the neighbor's dog barking outside or something birds or trucks going by if they're allowed enough so background noise can easily be a problem especially it's if it's inside the room with you

      The little video mics are great and when I got to use one I was pretty impressed with the audio quality, The Sennheiser has a few extra bills and whistles and is a little more versatile and overall I do think it's a higher quality microphone but either one of them used properly will sound nice however I do like the MKE 600 better I do think most people would be happy with either one. I would say watch as many reviews as you can find on both of the microphones and listen to how they sound on different people's voices, then kind of take a look at the cost difference and go from there

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The thing you have to realize is microphones are design the pickup sound, hey microphone like this will pick up less of the sound that's beside it or behind it but if that sound is loud enough it's still going to pick that up, even a lot of noise canceling software will have a hard time getting rid of all the keyboard sounds, especially if you have the microphone setting on the desk or something like that where it's really close to the keyboard which makes the keyboard and much louder than any other sound and it's picking up but with proper microphone placement and proper gain settings and stuff like that it shouldn't pick up too much keyboard, generally you keep the gain download, get the microphone on a boom arm right in front of your face and then you can use a limiter or a gain filter or something to boost the microphone to the bottom you want it to be for the stream but your goal is to get a good signal to noise ratio and the signal is the words coming out of your mouth you want that to be louder than anything else is picking up meaning your microphone needs to be right in front of your face that way your words are much louder than the keyboard sound or anything else like I said up and setting on your desk or you got the gain cranked up really high it's going to pick up everything so proper microphone placement and proper microphone technique and you can even go ahead and use some sort of noise suppression or something if you want but even that'll have a hard time getting rid of keyboard boys if there's too much of it It's actually hard to find any type of noise canceling or noise suppression that doesn't degrade your audio quality, Waves clarity VX does a really good job at getting rid of light background noise without hurting your audio quality but if the background noises loud it's going to struggle removing it and kill your audio so unfortunately those kind of plugins for features will almost always hurt your audio especially if there's a lot of background noise so the goal is to get a good signal to noise ratio with proper microphone placement in gain settings

I didn't have this issue on the MV7. I record with games using the keyboard and also for work for demo videos, Zoom calls....... If I hit a key hard, i get the resonance picked up on the mike. Sounds like a metallic ring. Driving me insane when recording a video. I am using a low profile mic boom so the mic stays out of camera and it is extended pretty far across my desk, but never had this issue with the MV7. The Maono PD400x is better than the Rode Podmic. it's actually the best mic you can get for $130. its easily worth $200 plus

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not really sure that you can say that the maono 400 is a better Mic, there's a lot of factors to look at including the build quality of the microphone, The circuits inside, The pre amplifiers, the converters, the headphone amplifier and so on, there's a lot of different things going on with these microphones, will either one of these microphones last you for 5 or 10 or 30 years? only time will tell but I do own a couple microphones that I have had for about 20 years, I'm not really sure if either one of these has that kind of build quality but you never know. Now when it comes to sound quality That's definitely going to be personal preference and how it sounds on your particular voice if you were to have them both. I believe One of these was built with budget in mind to be able to make you sound, personally I would rather speak into the PD 200x than the PD 400x as I think the 200x fits my voice better than the 400x, I actually own both of those and I like the PD 200x better than the PD 400x as far as the way they sound on my particular voice. Now for 99 bucks you can get a sure SM57 or a sure SM58 built the military specs which will last you 50 years if you take care of it of course those are XLR only microphone there's just a lot of things to look at and a lot of variables. I think the PD 400x you almost have to use a pop filter as it has a pulsive issue if I remember correctly, most microphones I don't need to use a pop filter but on that one I did which isn't a huge deal but I'd rather not use a pop filter if I don't have to. All right I'm on a rant here lol.
