      its a nice microphone, especially on xlr but it could sound a bit better on USB for the price. i guess when your trying to shove a audio interface inside of a microphone its probably hard to get it sounding as good as a full sized interface but if you listen to this on something capable of reproducing the audio properly it just sounds decent at best on USB in my opinion, all the effects are great but a lot of them make it sound worse.

      Thanks and for 300 bucks I think they should have stuff some nicer preamps in there or something it just sounds a little dull on USB I mean for 60 bucks you can get a cheap USB microphone that will make you sound pretty decent. And on USB I think this is only slightly better in some ways but slightly worse in others. Once I plugged it in through XLR I was like man that is a night and day difference, I really like the way it sounds on XLR, it definitely has that in your face podcast sound a lot of people like but it just sounds kind of boring on USB. If it would have been around 200 bucks instead of almost 300 I probably would have gave it a little bit better review but that's just a lot of money and you know a lot of people are going to be buying it to use on USB. I feel like just about every review I watch was more like hey look at this product it's cool and that really so much of a review, but I see I got some people hitting the thumbs down button, probably people who purchased one or listening on their phones bigger when they can't really hear the difference you know lol

      Yeah, a lot of these reviewers just want to sell you something or get free crap, and then there's some of these channels that probably aren't microphone guys and don't even really know what the look or listening for or they could be listening on the headset or dickers that don't really let them hear what the audio actually sounds like, it's hard to say but I do think a lot of those guys are just like hey a new product let me show it off I'm going to say it's great but in truth they don't really know much about what they're reviewing I think. But when channels like podcastage, dark corner studios, audio hotline and other actual microphone oriented channels get a hold of these still probably point out some of the same stuff that I did.. it's a nice microphone but I would have expected a little bit more out of it for the money that it cost if it would have been like 150 bucks I probably wouldn't have complained too much but for almost $300 I would expect it to sound a little better on USB than it actually does

      @@TruthReviews Your Welcome, Something like this compared to your 58, the MV7 looks better on camera (according to most people) but who cares really, it also sounds a little different but that difference in sound will be personal preference as to which one you like better. a good handheld mic will definitely give you the best value for the money and they will give you pro quality sound, i think the 99 dollar handhelds sound just as good as a lot of 200-400 dollar dynamic microphones out there. if your recording in a good quite sound treated room a 100 dollar handheld mic can sometimes sound better than a 3k dollar mic recorded in a lousy room

      On USB I really don't like how it sounds but they did say they will be working on a firmware upgrade to make it sound different on USB after a couple of us microphone reviewers who take microphone sound quality seriously contacted them about it and showed them our reviews and sounds like they are working on it, they probably won't fix the resinus issue but if you're not bumping your desk you'll probably be just fine it's just some of the worst resonance I've seen on any microphone but is what it is sometimes I guess

    Great video! I am hesitating between Shure MV7+ AND SM7dB + interface shure MVX2U (to make it USB). Which one would you recommend? I have no gears and want to do video podcasting/ youtube interviews with remote guest using Riverside. I want to keep it simple but with good sound. Does the MV7+ requires an interface or amp boost to sound good? Thank you!

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews

      All XLR microphones will require an audio interface, I ran a SM7B off of a Scarlet Solo third generation for several years, never use the game booster and I actually have a video about that. I think you can find a Scarlet solo third generation for about 80 bucks right now, for around 1:50 you can get a Scarlet to i2 4th generation with preamps that give you 70 decibels of yay or just under 70, for about 250 bucks you can get an SSL2 Plus audio interface which is super super nice but doesn't quite offer as much gain but I can run a regular SM7B off of any of those without a game booster.
      Generally you record of the somewhat quiet volume and then on the editing software you turn yourself up to the proper volume and generally if you're using a dynamic bike it's usually a couple of inches from your mouth which doesn't require as much pain either so if you're using the microphone right and you use something to boost your gain when live streaming or on your editing software you won't need a booster but you will need a audio interface for an XLR microphone

    Thanks for the review. I got the MV7+ as an upgrade from the MV7. Unfortunately it is going back. As you mentioned towards the end of your review, the resonance on this mic is bad. I didn't have this issue on the MV7. I record with games using the keyboard and also for work for demo videos, Zoom calls....... If I hit a key hard, i get the resonance picked up on the mike. Sounds like a metallic ring. Driving me insane when recording a video.
    I am using a low profile mic boom so the mic stays out of camera and it is extended pretty far across my desk, but never had this issue with the MV7. Love the USB-C over usb micro the mute button for the mic, and pretty much everything else, but the resonance ruins everything else.

      There may be a firmware update for this mic coming soon that changes the sound on usb, i think im going to get to test this out before it goes live, now as far as the shock mount not existing you could get some soft of shock mount system for it like this but it probably wont look great on camera and you probably need to hang hte mic upside down off of this amzn.to/3XLzlf5 - LP boom arms are not great for shock rejection but yeah.. lots of resonance on the mic, the original one has that problem as well, i don't currently have one here here to see which one is worse but its possible this new one is worse, but it sucks when you tap the desk mor set your mouse down and you hear booohnnnngggggggggg lol, i always wondered why they did not put usb c on the original MV7

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews thanks, going to check out that shock mount. For me my mic is just out of the camera frame. I have a 55mm lense for me camera so the frame is pretty tight. I am thinking of a different arm that has a better build which may help if all else fails. I will do a side by side test, but same setup with the mv7 and didn’t get the resonance in my recordings. Here’s my issue with iPhone 15.
    The only 2 usb mic with an app are rode / Shure.
    The rode didn’t work properly.
    The Shure was the only choice tbh
    I just got this mic and the only other option was mv7 or this and this was better on tests I seen.
    I guess for a usb mic it’s the best.
    Also factor take off the foam cover and play with gain levels more. I try to peak it as high.
    I wish they had a way to use XLR on usb? Like a cable that connects both.

      they do make audio interfaces that are compatible with phones.. not sure which ones work with ios as i dont know much about IOS or mac in general, The main reason i complain abut the mic, it cost almost 300 bucks. it will still make you sound nice on usb but not 300 dollars when listening on studio monitor or monitor headphones, it should be sound better on usb.. it will still sound fine tho. maybe they will make a firmware update that changes the tone on usb it or something.

      I don't think it would sound that much different on that interface versus the one I'm using, these days most interfaces try to give you the cleanest recording possible with a completely flat frequency response, these days it's more about what bills and whistles and features the audio interface has more than the sound quality because most of them these days are pretty darn good if it's a name brand. That little interface You're speaking of is pretty neat but does seem pretty cool, I wish I could afford to buy every microphone and every interface out there. Most of the reviews I've walked from people who do real reviews, they point out a lot of flaws but else don't seem to like it a lot, I wish I could afford to go out and buy all the microphones and all of the interfaces, currently I don't have one of those, sounds like they're pretty nice and pretty interesting overall. But I think the MV7 will sound good on any name brand XLR interface. Just wish they would have put better preamps in it for the USB sound quality

    So I recently purchased the mv7+ mic and the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen. I’m really new to this whole scene. Now whether I connect the Mic to either usb or using the XLR cables directly into the interface, when ever I set headphone monitor on OBS I get a delay. I have been working on this for about three days now trying different things and asking on discord. I have tried using the software that comes with the MV7+ and without it. The way I have it set up. Mic is set up on the main screen for MV7+. The desktop audio is set up as MV7 plus headphones I go to the advance settings and set monitoring to MV7+ headphones. I then going to the settings and select monitor with other source. I have tried connecting to headphones directly into my computer and also connecting the headphones into the interface, but no matter what I connect to as soon as I hit headphone monitoring I hear the delay. Now I know if I connect to the interface and hit the direct monitor button then i won’t get a delay, but now I no longer hear any filters from OBS. I must be doing something wrong. Is there a way to get a walk-through of every setting I need to do?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The problem with using obs to monitor is the mic goes into the computer, goes through obs, get sent back into your audio interface and into your headphones and your almost always going to get delay, plugging a set of headphones into your audio interface and monitoring the mic that way is going to give you what you want. you can use the scarlett like a sound card to hear all the sound from your pc too if you set the Scarlet as your default playback, and default recording device on your pc, when you plug a set of headphones into the scarlett it will play all your pc audio through the scarlett and you can hear exactly what your mic is picking up as well without any delay or latency. but if you are monitoring a mic through most pieces of pc software like obs or rode connect or shure plus motive will cause at least a little bit of delay unfortunately so its way better to let the interface act like a sound card and do all the work so you can cut out the software dealy i almost forgot.. if your mic is plugged into the interface with xlr just make sure you press the direct monitoring button on the interface, when you turn that on you automatically hear what the mic hears in the head phones.. And like i said if you set it as default you can hear all your computer audio too. . i hope i explained this well.. i'm dyslexic so i'm not great at reading or typing.

      I see what you're trying to do, I normally just do a short recording play it back if it's not right readjust the plug-in do a short recording play it back if it's not right readjust the plugin but I think your best bet. Don't record with plugins and when you're editing your video add the plugins on there, DaVinci resolve has a full audio editing section and it's a free video editor I actually made a video a couple days ago about how to edit your audio on there, let's just say you're recording and you have a plug-in set incorrectly or something changed was through it off that can wreck the entire recording so it is better to add your plugins on the editing part instead of the recording part as you can always readjust those as you go during the editing but once the recording is made if those were part of the recording you can't readjust or undo that.
      If you're recording your audio in a digital to audio workstation like reaper or pro tools or something like that you can normally dial in those to get zero latency monitoring but those are just audio editing only programs but generally screen recorders like OBS you're never going to get zero latency monitoring unfortunately, maybe someday they will let us set up our audio drivers properly in OBS so we can get zero latency monitoring but as of right now they don't offer that

Sounded barely any better than my Samson q2u which I bought for 50 bucks. The touch pad light up mute button is pretty redundant. I also bought the shure mv7x which also sounds barely better than my q2u. Really blown away by the prices being so high not shure what the deal is.
    On a side note what are some good mic’s that are in the 200-300 dollar price range? Ive heard audio from TH-camrs and streamers that sound immaculate im guessing they’re using some really high end stuff.

      how do some youtubers sound amazing, ill break this down for you and its probably not what you think, A nice 100 dollar mic recorded in a properly sound treated room will often sound better than a 1200 dollar mic recorded in a big empty reverb filled room as you will hear more of the reverb than the actual voice sometimes if the room has lots of echo. So A nice microphone recorded in a good room will give you excellent recording quality but there is one catch, Some people have a really great sounding voice and good speaking technique and some people do not which makes a huge difference. my voice sounds ok but its never going to sound as good as some people, maybe if i took singing and or acting lessons as they can tech you how to do different thing with your voice.. my voice actor friend could talk into anything and make it sound good, he says his voice did not always sound that way but he practiced speaking so much his microphone voice just kind of turned into his speaking voice and he said it took years and years to prefect but that is why huge companies like Crayola hire the guy. if you take a voce like that you can early have a Scarlett solo audio interface and a really good cheap mike like a audio technica AT2020 and sound amazing, change the mic to a U87 or a Soyuz 013 and you now have amazing when you have a good voice and especially a trained voice.. now if i spoke into that u87 in a perfect room it would sound very good but only as good as my voice actually is. but a good chape mic will sound one way, a really expensive mic will sound another way, for example the Q2U sounds great as it has a pleasing tone but i hear lots of flaws with that mic but your average person might not notice them as they don't really know what to listen for but the more you work with audio if your listening on something capable of reproducing the recording in full quality you will start to notice these things. and remember you tube compresses the audio quality down a bit to save space so its never as good on youtube as the original recording. go listen to the microphone assassin youtube channel or even the youtuer called audio haze and you will hear 2 people with nice microphes that have really good speaking voices which make them sound even better than you average person will, listen to me and you hear my ok voice in a decently treated room. i don't have that amazing sound speaking voice so i wont sound as good as those guys so there is really a lot of factors and what your listening tot he audio on makes a huge difference in what you hear as well.

      You're welcome, everybody has different vocal cords and if you have one of those doll kind of dark sounding voice is it's hard to get those sounding good but if you've got a nice if you've got a nice speaking voice, learn some vocal techniques and vocal warm ups just like professional singers to you before they go play a concert or record an album and you're recording in the good room you should be able to send really nice I mean honestly when you're doing processing it should be very small The recording should be 90 to 95% ready to post The processing is just to add that little bit extra or fix any problems from your room or your microphone I mean some rooms or some microphones may pick up a couple of little resonating frequencies that sound bad or something along the lines of that if your voice sounds a little muddy you can cut that out or if you're lacking the high end you can add a little bit in, but generally less is more when it comes to you processing and speaking voice, getting good at EQ work is the hardest part on a speaking voice and some of the stuff that seems like it would be super complicated like compression is really the easy part mean for a voice however you can pretty much sit up any compressor the exact same way and after that you just turn the dial to tell it how much compression you actually want and bam you're good to go but EQ is a waste the hard part on a speaking voice especially when you get into the subtract if EQ and stuff like that, I'm not extremely good at the subtractive EQ but if you're really good at finding those bad frequencies and removing just that specific frequency I can really make your recording sound nice.

      I was was probably using my focusrite Scarlet 2i2 4th generation or it's possible I was using the SSL 2 Plus interface, most of the time I use the Scarlet, most modern audio interfaces are going the sound of very similar to where you'll probably hear very little difference I mean very very little difference between the two unless you're really listening for it on a good set of studio monitor headphones or something like that.
      Generally if you're buying interface that came up over the last year or so The main thing to look for is features because any good interface is going to sound great, so really you just want to look for how much gain does it have does it come with software do I like the controls do I like the features, do I want one that has a built-in compressor yada yada but I do think that 4th generation Scarlet is one of the best interfaces right now as the recording is super clean it's got really good digital to audio converters it's got a great headphone preamp which is the same headphone preamp they put in their crazy expensive line of products, it's just a really good all-around interface as long as you don't need too many bills and whistles but it does have some really awesome features on the software where you can control it from the software or the interface itself I just wish it had a phantom power button for each microphone instead of one that turned on both but not a big deal, I just put out my year-long review on that interface a couple of days ago I have one very small issue with it that most people probably won't have but it only seems to be with one gaming program that I use that it does weird stuff but I would highly suggest a 4th generation Scarlet 2i2 or 4i4 I think they're kind of the best bang for the buck and the recording is super clean

      That is one of those microphones where people liked the way it sounded on USB, it is not a bad microphone but generally if you're listening on some good headphones or studio monitors or something like that, you'll normally hear a pretty nice increase in sound quality going from USB to XLR, now if you're just listening on some cheap headphones or a phone speaker or something you probably won't hear much of a difference. So far road has a couple of USB and XLR microphones where they put their really high-end preamp in it and it sounds really really close but the XLR still sounds a teeny bit better even on those, but I'm sure it's hard to fit an entire audio interface into a microphone body without raising the cost up too much so generally I think that's why the XLR always sounds better, they can normally put higher in components in a actual audio interface that they don't have to jam inside of a tiny microphone body

The software that it comes with is definitely a little bit confusing they don't feel bad, anyways have a great day and I hope you like your new microphone,

      Thing with a USB microphone is there trying to jam a audio interface into a microphone body, keep it lightweight and not raise the cost up too much so generally the preamps converters and headphone amps and stuff in the USB things are not so good
      There are a few exceptions to USB microphones I mean there's a few out there that sound pretty good, but XLR will always sound better, I might have been a little harsh on this but I hear a pretty big difference when listening on some monitor headphones. There's almost like a slight hollow sound on the USB connection but it doesn't sound bad it just doesn't sound great I guess
      And hello my CSR friend. 😀😀. Those little elgato interfaces are pretty cool I like how you can add your plugins right to them, the MV7X is quite nice so I think you're better off with that setup, feel like USB mics are really for somebody who just needs to get something now and can't really afford the interface and the mic, or for somebody that needs to travel around with a microphone and be able to plug it into any computer.

    Would you recommend using a microphone like this for someone that uses speech recognition a lot? I was hoping a microphone like this would understand my spoken commands better and offer a higher % of accuracy. Would really appreciate an answer :)

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All you need is a microphone that is going to pick you up clearly, a nice quiet room, proper microphone placement and technique and if you speak slowly and pronounce your words very clearly if your speech recognition software is good it should have no issues. Now you could get a $70 k688 microphone or you could buy this thing for almost 300 bucks and you would probably get the same results if all the other stuff I mentioned was on point. Or you could probably spend like 50 bucks on a set of steel series tusk earbuds with a built-in boom mic which is what I'm talking into right now on my phone and it's typing it all out. And the boom mic on these earbuds will not sound as good as this sure microphone or that fifine I mention but since I'm in a nice quiet spot the mics like 2 in in front of my face in a little bit off to the side and I'm speaking slowly and very clearly it picks up almost everything I say perfectly now if I start talking a little fast or don't really pronounce it my words well that's a different story but I think any decent dynamic mic a couple inches away from your mouth and off to the side and a quiet room will get you the results you're looking for as long as the software you're using is good

      I'm going to give you a suggestion, maybe take a look at the rode pod mic or.pod mic USB, The USB version is $200 and it has XLR or USB and the regular version is XLR only and cost about $99. I think this would be an excellent microphone for speech recognition because it doesn't have as much low end as some other microphone, This microphone was designed for speech so it's a little bit mid forward and it rolls off the low end a bit and the problem with microphones that have a lot of low end is if your room acoustics aren't great or your voice is kind of deep the microphone will pick you up and add a lot of that muddy bassiness that makes your voice hard to understand so a microphone that rolls off the low end a little bit should be a really good choice for something like voice recognition software and that microphone is a little bit cheaper than the sure, The MV7 models are supposed to kind of have that warm base heavy sound that people like for podcasting and whatnot to where are the pod mic focuses on the mid-range frequencies of your voice and all the low end. I think if you were to get a pod mic, put it up on a boom arm gets it about 4 to 5 in in front of your face and recording a nice quiet room that would be a excellent microphone for voice recognition as it should cut out a lot of that low muddiness that can make your voice hard to understand,. I'm not 100% sure what microphone you're currently using so I'm not sure how much of an upgrade something like this would be but. You could always look at something like a Plantronics headset, those don't tend to have a lot of love end and they also seem to cut out most of the unwanted background noise and I know some people do like those for voice recognition. But those don't really sound 100% crystal clear either so I would say take a look at the pod mic or the pod Mic USB. Buy one on Amazon and if it doesn't make a difference you can always send it back, they're pretty good at just being like hey no questions ask go ahead and return it

    I HAVE to use the denoiser because of how noisy it is even without a fan on. Is something else causing the noise?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Microphones pick up noise, for best results point the microphone away from any sound source so let's just say you have a fan running if the fan is to the left or the right or in front of the microphone it's definitely going to pick that up now if the fan is behind the microphone and several feet away it's going to pick that up a lot less, if you're using a condenser microphone paranormally more sensitive and will pick up more of all the rum noise. But your PC fans your window air conditioner even your heating or air conditioning vents from a central air or central heating can be picked up on microphones so here's some tips. Like I said point the microphone away from the sound source, get the microphone a few inches in front of your face up on a boom arm, only turn the game up as high as you need and then you can use a limiter or some sort of plug into adjust yourself to the proper volume The higher the microphone is gain The more room noises going to pick up so what I do is I turn mine up until The loudest part is hitting around -15 maybe even minus 20 and then I use a limiter plug into push myself to the correct volume and the microphone will pick up way less room noise but it's still going to pick up some. I honestly can't tell you what's causing the noise in your room, now a bad cable or some type of electronical interference, a bad ground on the microphone or anything can introduce noise but generally if it sounds like white noise it's probably a fan being picked up if it sounds more like a hum or a hiss or a static or something is probably some sort of interference or a problem somewhere between the microphone and the computer.

    Can you tell me basically your choice between MV7 plus and podmic usb ? Thank youu in advance 😊

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i think the mv7 has a bigger, fuller, wider and darker sound. The pod mic sounds more focused, a little flatter on the frequency response with more controlled low end so if you have a deep voice or your room acoustics make your recordings sound muddy the pod mic can help you sound a little more well rounded.. but i think the pod mic sounds kind of boring overall but if your willing to do some EQ work you can live it up a bit. im not sure which one will sound better on your voice or in your room but i personally like the mv7 best especially on XLR, i think they both just sound so so on usb, you can get a descant audio interface for 99 bucks like a scarlett solo and a 99 dollars and a sm58 or a SE V7 for 99 bucks and get pro quality sound, or you can get one a mv7X or pod mic and a 99 dollar interface so you can use a xlr mic at its full potential. usb microphones are basically stuffing a interface into mic and trying to keep cost down so the preamps and converter and everything else are lower quality than what you get in a actual interface. my advice is watch lots of reviews on both mics and see how they sound on different voices

    It's weird for a usb+dsp mic to struggle in usb mode. I mean that's the only reasons to pick such a mic over a cheap usb, or a better & probably cheaper XLR only. I mean surely if someone is buying this mic to only use it XLR then the MV7X already existed, and it half the price.
    The various Chinese combo mics at half the price seem to do the job at least as well. And Shure haven't even beaten them on handling noise. Eg. The K668 is terrible for handling noise BUT its a fraction of the price of the MV7+.
    It almost makes me wonder if some accountant cheapened out on some details AFTER most of the product development was done. Or their manufacturer (presumably a Chinese factory, like for almost everything) did the economy deed.

Lately rode has bee putting good preamps in these usb microphones. th-cam.com/video/2w5K1BJl-3U/w-d-xo.html the pod mic can get a little grainy on the highs and focuses on the low mids but i kind of like that sound on my voice. but if you listen on good headphones you will notice ht mv7+ on usb sounds muffled and the pod mic sound clear on usb.. so if you like the sound of the podmic it might be a better choice if usb is your think.

      Recording level has nothing to do with the way the microphone sounds unless you have it too loud then you clip in the store or if you have it too low you get buried in the noise floor but in professional recordings studios some are between -15 and -10 is where you want the body order and then on your editing soft or you would turn it up to the maximum volume later I mean that's standard recording volume I was at maybe just a tad bit higher but that's not going to change the sound of the microphone, but -55 is kind of a standard -10 is actually pushing it a little bit but that's just as long as you don't go past zero you'll be fine once it goes past zero it gets distorted and it'll clip

      I spend a lot of time learning about engineering from a very good audio engineer, before that I played in bands and worked with or used a lot of audio equipment, but life sound and engineering are some very different things. But if you're somebody making videos if TH-cam didn't compress your audio and degrade it you could definitely have some really good signing videos if you know what you're doing on audio engineering but it does suck that TH-cam greggs the audio with their compression, never sounds as good as the original

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews

      I think I failed to answer your last question there but different audio interfaces can provide different amounts of gain for example if you get a road podcaster those things are doing what like 72 decibels again some interface is only do like 50 some do like 65 so it's going to be different on every interface and most of them just have a knob that you turn so you don't know exactly how much gain you're actually getting. But general rule of recording I did kind of mention this but general rule is turn up the gain until you're hitting around -15 decibels in your normal speaking voice like if it goes a little bit past 15 you're okay but you want to be able to stand next to the microphone and just shout hey at a pretty loud volume and you want to make sure it doesn't clip in the store because you were too loud so usually what I do if I really want to push it is I'll stand next to the microphone or sit next to the microphone at the distance I plan to use it and I will yell hey three or four times kind of a shout but not a scream and if I see it goes all the way to the end of the loudness meter on my recording software or if the interface itself lights up red and tells me that hey you were clipping then I turn the game down just a little bit and shout again and then if it's still clips I turn it down a little bit and shout again and that's normally how I pushed I mean what I'm doing a gaming channel I do get a little loud sometimes if I'm just speaking I don't have to worry about that too much but anyways yeah

      being dyslexic i'm not great at typing but... This is the problem with a usb microphones, They are trying to jam a full audio interface into a microphone this usually means lower quality preamps and converters and what not compared to a actual audio interface and xlr mic, This mic does not bad sounding on usb i guess but it sounds so much better on XLR, i think for 300 bucks it should sound better on USB, but over all i do like it. if you want a cheap dynamic usb/xlr mic the maono pd200x which is usually around 60 bucks, it's not pro quality audio but it sounds nice, Sennheiser makes a nice sounding usb condenser mic for about 120 bucks, it's called the Sennheiser profile. The rode nt1 5th generation is quite nice its xlr or usb but you won get zero latency monitoring on usb unfortunately but its sounds great on usb or xlr as they put a high end preamp in it but it will run you about 260 bucks., the samson g track pro is a cool condenser mic for about 120 bucks, there are lots of usb microphones that sound nice and cost around 100 bucks or less but not many that will give you pro quality sound. You could go get a scarlett solo 3rd gen interface for 80 bucks and something like a shure sm57 or sm58 for 99 bucks and get pro quality sound. or you could pick up a scarlett solo interface and the MV7X which is the xlr only version of this mic and get both for less than 300 bucks. or you could get this, use it on usb for now and pick up a interface later and make it sound really good. it is is nice to have a mic with usb and xlr but xlr will almost always sound better unless they put really good preamps and what not into the usb mic and i don't think there are many of those out there. but those are some options i would consider.

      The thing you have to realize is microphones are design the pickup sound, hey microphone like this will pick up less of the sound that's beside it or behind it but if that sound is loud enough it's still going to pick that up, even a lot of noise canceling software will have a hard time getting rid of all the keyboard sounds, especially if you have the microphone setting on the desk or something like that where it's really close to the keyboard which makes the keyboard and much louder than any other sound and it's picking up but with proper microphone placement and proper gain settings and stuff like that it shouldn't pick up too much keyboard, generally you keep the gain download, get the microphone on a boom arm right in front of your face and then you can use a limiter or a gain filter or something to boost the microphone to the bottom you want it to be for the stream but your goal is to get a good signal to noise ratio and the signal is the words coming out of your mouth you want that to be louder than anything else is picking up meaning your microphone needs to be right in front of your face that way your words are much louder than the keyboard sound or anything else like I said up and setting on your desk or you got the gain cranked up really high it's going to pick up everything so proper microphone placement and proper microphone technique and you can even go ahead and use some sort of noise suppression or something if you want but even that'll have a hard time getting rid of keyboard boys if there's too much of it
      It's actually hard to find any type of noise canceling or noise suppression that doesn't degrade your audio quality, Waves clarity VX does a really good job at getting rid of light background noise without hurting your audio quality but if the background noises loud it's going to struggle removing it and kill your audio so unfortunately those kind of plugins for features will almost always hurt your audio especially if there's a lot of background noise so the goal is to get a good signal to noise ratio with proper microphone placement in gain settings

      The thing is everybody's room acoustics are different and everybody's voice is different and all mics will sound a little different on each person's voice, I think this is a very nice microphone but I think it could sound a bit better for $300 if you're using it as a USB microphone I mean it sounds nice and all but you can get a $60 microphone the maono pd200x that will make you sound nice for $60, fifine has some microphones that sound nice for about 60 bucks, Sennheiser has a couple of USB microphones that you can get for around $100, I know SE electronics came out with a affordable USB microphone, The road NT1 5th generation sounds phenomenal on USB but they don't give you a headphone jack so you can't plug your headphones directly into the microphone for zero latency monitoring but that can also be ran as a XLR microphone and that's the best USB mic I've ever heard and I just wish they would have added the headphone jack so you could monitor what your hearing I mean you can go into the software and do it but there's a little bit of latency which makes it really hard to work with unfortunately. Now XLR is always going to sound at least a little bit better on most microphones because when you're buying a USB microphone they're putting the preamps the DA converters and everything else into a small microphone body so they're trying to fit a full audio interface into a microphone and keep the cost down so it's often lower quality stuff compared to going out and spending 80 bucks on a focusrite Scarlet solo and buying something like a $99 shure SM58 which will give you 100% pro quality sound I mean it's super easy to get an audio interface. You plug that into your computer with a USB cable and then you plug the microphone into the interface and then you pretty much just have a volume knob on interface that turns up the gain on the microphone just like you have on most USB microphones so it's not complicated or hard to run an audio interface and you will almost always get better sound compared to USB but if you absolutely have to have a USB and you don't mind having zero latency monitoring the road NT1 5th generation sounds freaking good, I don't like the big heavy giant shock mount that it came with so I replaced it with a $12 bosen shock mount that I got off of Amazon and after I did that I will say the NT1 5th generation if you need USB and XLR or the NT1 signature series which is only about 160 bucks but that's XLR only is the best sounding thing you're going to ever get for the money in my opinion but that is a condenser microphone so mind you if you have a noisy room or a really reverb a room it will pick up everything. But I do have a bunch of review videos on microphones and a big handful of those are USB and XLR microphones so if you go to my playlist maybe look through that and then if you find something you like go watch other reviews for that microphone on TH-cam and see how that microphone sounds on other people's voices as well

      Audio interface, XLR cable, microphone. You can get something like the fifine audio interface for 50 bucks or I think you can get a third generation Scarlet solo for about 80 bucks or a 4th generation Scarlet for a little bit more really it's good to get one that holds two microphones but usually those are going to be like 200 plus dollars for an audio interface that holds two microphones.
      Now don't get me wrong it sounds okay on USB but it does sound way better on XLR if you're listening on something that can recreate all the details of the actual recording. I mean if you're just looking to sound nice that'll do it but if you want to sound as good as possible XLR is always the way to go, they're basically trying to stuff a full audio interface into a microphone without raising the cost of the microphone too much so they usually use stuff that's not quite high quality on the USB microphones built-in audio interface
      But if you get to interface I mean it's pretty much plug that into your computer, plug the microphone into the interface with the XLR cable and turn up the gain knob until the microphone at the right level, That's really about all there is to the audio interface. Some of them have some bills and whistles and stuff like that some of them don't just depends on which one you get but that's kind of the basics of it

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews Thanks. I'm devastated I bought a new pc and just tried to plug Shure in using usb c and my pc doesn't have usb c port. Is this strange for a new pc? I could get an adapter but isn't that going to make usb sound even worse?

      You probably also need a cloud lifter for something like sm7b

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews The usb software comes with room denoiser. I have to buy software (which one) for xlr right? Also how will I denoiser background. Sorry total novice here

      Almost every room denoising type of software will cause artifacting or make your voice sound like it's underwater, especially if you crank it up too high, and those things can only do so much without completely making your voice sound terrible. You should be recording in a nice quiet room, now if you have some sort of audio editing software that works with Waves plugins, The waves clarity VX is the only noise reduction program I've ever used that doesn't make your voice sound bad and that's as long as there's not too much background noise if you got a air conditioner running or fan going in the background you can turn the knob up to about 40% and it'll make so you can barely hear that anymore and won't kill your audio quality now at the background noise is loud it's going to kill your audio quality. Those programs basically have to try and remove noise from a recording and it has to somehow figure out what your voice and what's the background noise in that becomes a problem for most of them, I see somebody saying you're probably going to need a cloud lifter but I've never used one, I've never needed to, as long as you get a good audio interface that provides a decent amount of gain you will not need a cloud lifter unless you're trying to run a dynamic microphone like an arm's length away or something I mean they're supposed to be right in front of your mouth so if you're using everything correctly you won't need the cloud lifter unless you get like a audio interface that just can't power a dynamic microphone very well but these days most of them can. I mean generally you kind of record of the little volume and then use a plug-in like a limiter or just turn the volume up to where you want it on the editing software so if you're using everything correctly and you get a decent interface you shouldn't need a cloud lifter

    And is it possible to use the microphone via XLR and only control the LEDs via the USB cable?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      on some microphones you can use a xlr cable that goes to your interrace and you can run the usb to your computer as well and even record both at the same time.. i did not try to record both a the same time with this mic, but if im using it on xlr and i plug the usb to a power source the Light did light up. on most mics that have both you can power the lights separately but not all of them work that way.

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews I contacted the manufacturer out of curiosity and received the following response: “The MV7+ acts as a completely passive microphone when connected via XLR, so you will control mute and audio adjustments via your recording software. The LED lights and buttons are for USB connection only. maybe this information will be useful to someone ^^

      @@r3nbul Thanks.. That is pretty much what i was saying in the video, when on xlr, all of the stuff you get with usb does not work. so basically it just transfers sound to your interface and that is it.. now on xlr you can plug it in usb as well but only to make it light up but all your getting is the light, not any of the controls, just the light
