I want objectivity in these videos and this was a big fail. It was a half hour Apex commercial. BRS just convinced me to buy a Hydros when I’m ready.

I’ve been using HYDROS Control 4 for around 2 years, no major issues and I’m super happy with it. Just say Hydros guys it’s not a dirty word. My hydros monitors water level, return flow rate, temperature, ORP, and monitors power on select outlets, it monitors PH and controls my kalk dose to flatline PH, it does everything you guys say in the video. Yet you don’t say HYDROS once.
I also dose with GHL stand-alone because they are the most reliable.

I'm surprised Hydros was not mentioned. I've been using the Control XS on my planted tank for a while and love it! @BRStv, please create a video on Hydros.

Aperture pet & Life has acquired ownership of BRS, Neptune Systems, Eco Tec Marine & Aqua Illumination. With that said It would be a conflict of interest for them to promote a competitor's product. Coral Vue already does CVTV workshops here on TH-cam to promote Hydros controllers.

It's almost comical the refusal to even say "Hydros." I know BRS is connected with Apex but you used to be known for honest trust worthy comparisons for the newer reefer, until a year or two ago. Everyone knows by now the main 2 players are Hydros and Apex. If you are too afraid to mention Hydros it makes me wonder if you feel like Apex can't stand up in a true side by side comparison. I think the two are closer than they are different but in a close race I went with Hydros because of the reviews for the poor quality newer items, i.e. auto fish feeder. Hydros might be newish but they've been here a couple years and are innovating faster than the legacy controllers. I realize I sound like a fan boy defending my purchase but in all honesty I think both Apex and Hyros are acceptable controllers but the refusal to mention Hydros is concerning when considering your objectivity in these videos that have become ads rather than help.

+1 absolutely I’m in same boat. Ordered the hydros the other day after seeing terrible reviews for the Apex. However, hydros had a nearly perfect score. I absolutely love with this channel does however, I started to notice that in this video and another one they don’t show the hydros controller..😬😬😬

Obviously you cannot trust BRS to give honest reviews anymore. Big business has ruined their reviews. It has become entertaining to see how they completely ignore that hydro's exist. Very sad that they just won't give credit where credit is do. Apex is old technology. Hydro's is new but proven to be better than Apex!

Video came across my feed. 10+ year customer. Used to watch BRS videos all of the time and my business only went to them. 8min in and stopped watching. Disappointed BRS has placed money. ahead of objectivity. Reminds me why I started spending my money with other distributors.

I couldn't agree more with this comment. This fits with a change where I see the content switch from honest and useful to TED talk formats where they spend half an hour when 5 would do due to the amount of filler. And then the end take aways are almost always buy apex, buy ai, buy ecotech... I wonder what they have in common?

Some great tips as always! I know they are still the new kid on the block, but setting up my hydros system has been excellent. I think they are worthy of at least a mention in these types of videos.
In general, leak detection and water level sensors have eased my worries when I go to sleep at night. I’m tempted to put simple controllers on all of my aquariums now! And ATO is so convenient as well.

Yea I have had the Apex few years ago on a previous tank. I chose the Hydros over it for the the last ank I have and my current tank now. Apex is so bloated in price anymore. Plus all the gear feels like its built like a kids toy. Like cheap feeling plastic

  • @thereefaholic

Having used an Apex for 15 years now I can tell you that you will become reliant on a controller. You will count on it to monitor, alert and control many things. That being said I will always have a backup control module. Controllers freak and Apex has no advance replacement program. I am sure GHL does not either. So you are looking at reconfiguring everything while your controller ships out for repair and ships back.
Currently running an older apex with three EB8’s and one EB4 to control by DT and FT. That’s a whole bunch of reconfiguration that needs to be done if the CPU module does. That’s 6 BRS dosing pumps that go offline, and all my leak detection,ATO, lights… etc.

We’re not just keeping fish anymore, this is strictly for keeping a consistent temperature with the slightest fluctuation to prevent high end acropora death. We’re trying to protect our investment.

Why aren't there any videos about the Hydros Controller? You are listing it on your site and reviews seem great.. This seems a little more cost effective than the Apex? Hard to know without good testing.

Hydros needs to become world wide to be a serious player. I know BRS is an American company so they should still of mentioned Hydros. But you can get the ones mentioned anywhere in the world. Hydros you can only get in USA. Btw I want a hydros and I’m in the UK

didnt we already have this conversation like 6 or 7 months ago Ryan? why wont you just talk about hydro's? they have been out for a few years at this point and have had great success. What happened to the fair and equal evaluation instead of just shilling and yes it is a ugly word but i feel like the refusal to even mention hydros would would fall under that. HOWEVER i applaud you for mentioning GHL at all.

    • @MiddleAgedMike
