    Hi Mark,
    Thanks for your video. The heat quit on my 93 MB 190E today, and you've given me a few places to start. Several weeks ago, when I started using the heat this season, there was an occasional clicking sound, then my heat got pretty weak. More recently there's been an occasional whining sound, intermittent but noticeable. And today everything quit. Oddly, there's always a gentle stream of warm air coming out of the side dash vents. Glad for that now. Will try your suggestions.

    Patrick you are on the right track for sure. The default position is the defroster vent output. It's vacuum that pulls the blend door to the other positions.Most likely there is another broken line somewhere or a problem with the vacuum storage ball.I have seen a few cracked ones on jeep products. But of course these are not the only things that can cause this issue just the more common ones.

    Thank you for the time you put into providing information, making a video, and answering questions.
    I have an issue with my blower motor going off or turning on when I hit a pretty decent bump in the road.
    I have just purchased a new blower motor. I am hoping that that fixes the issue as you said if you tap the motor and it comes on it indicates that the motor windings are starting to fail. Perhaps this is why when i hit a decent bump in the road it causes it to turn on or off. I am just sharing incase someone else has this specific problem. I will share more if after replacing the blower if it fixes the issue.

    Danny V: Some dealer diagnosis will most likely be needed to pin down the problem. Two possibilities would be the blend door control motor that switches the air direction from the defroster to the dash vents. Another possibility would be the control head that sends a signal to the blend door control motor. The Dealer has a scan tool that can interface and test the climate control system.

  • @TradingCarMechanic

    John: Most cars have a relay center under the hood. Yes relays can be tested. Another thing you can do is locate the blower relay and record the part number. Then you can look for the same part number used in another system and swap them. Manufacturers often use one part number relay for many systems to reduce costs.

  • @TradingCarMechanic
    @TradingCarMechanic  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tom: If everything else is working fine and just the high setting is inoperative then the most likely cause would be the high blower relay. I say most likely because it can be the switch or control panel problems but the relay is more likely. Not sure on the 86 but I know on the 90's trucks the high blower relay is in a relay center under the hood. On those vehicles you can swap out the relay with the same part number relay from another circuit for a quick test to see if that fixes it.

    this is so very helpful thank you for your time creating and uploading this, im at a stand still with my 95 chevy k1500. I needed a new climate control module because the old one was falling apart. ive had issues on and off with the a/c and heat since I owned the truck a few years back but what im running into is the blower used to run on high only now it doesn't work at all. ive checked both fuses and they are good. ive replaced the relay, resistor, and blower motor along with the a/c control module. everything has been replaced but nothing works. ill turn it on low and it will work for a few seconds then it stop and now nothing happens on high. im at a stand still. any input would be so appreciated. this wiring diagram is very similar to my truck almost exact I just don't know what else to do. thank you for your time

  • @metalmoto

    Excellent...looks like my astro schematic. I just replaced my blower motor last week. The resistor was replaced a year before that. A burned out resistor usually means your blower motor will fail soon. Best to replace them both. Thanks for the video.

  • @TradingCarMechanic
    @TradingCarMechanic  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Rudy: When I have both a power and a ground problem I fix the ground side first. Poor grounds can make the electrical system do crazy things. You will have to check your manual to see where the blower is grounded. It most likely shares a ground with other systems. I have a link to a video showing how to test ground integrity in this videos description.

  • @TradingCarMechanic
    @TradingCarMechanic  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes Glen I would suspect the high blower relay in your case. Not sure where it's located on your vehicle but I would not expect it to be near the resistor block. More likely in an under-hood relay center or under the dash? Note that some GM cars have 2 fuses for the blower so check both of those. It could also be the blower switch or wiring problem but the high relay is more likely.

  • @TradingCarMechanic
    @TradingCarMechanic  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @melien85 The blower motor relay is what bypasses the speed control (resister). Testing the blower relay would be a good place to start.

    @clos039 The way you described your condition it sounds like maybe a blend door type problem that diverts air to the proper vents. When this malfunctions it can dump all the air behind the dash.

    What would cause the wires to my blower burn and melt. Your advise is greatly appreciated.

  • @TradingCarMechanic
    @TradingCarMechanic  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Jerry Z: The way you describe your problem it sounds like there is a problem with the blend door motor. This is what controls where the air exits from. The Buick dealer has a special tool for diagnosing and recalibrating the blend door motors. This is needed after replacing the control head I think?

    this video helped me to identify my problem. the blower on my 2008 Ford Ranger became intermittent. either all blower switch positions worked, or none did. all fuses & relays checked out ok, so I suspected a short, a loose connection, or the blower motor at fault. tapping on the motor housing identified it as the culprit. something inside seems to be sticking so I'll likely have to remove it to find out why.

    Hi resistance in the wiring, connectors or the motor windings themselves from corrosion or rust are a few possible and common causes of the blower motor running slower then the selected speed.

    Answer 2) On the inside cover of most fuse panels is a road map to what each fuse protects. On older vehicles this was sometimes put in the owners manual.

    Hi hittelman, excellent video!
    I already checked fueses, blower resistor, and grounds an everything is ok, I unpluged the blower connector and is giving 12.3 volts and the blower isnt working at any speed, but I connected directly to the battery and works fine (here is giving 14.2 volts)
    So here is the cuestion, how I find or what is giving me low voltage to the a/c blower?
    I watched another video where describes the Ohm in the blower resistor comparing a bad one vs a good one, and mine has the same results as a good one.
    I forgot to mention that the speed control is working propertly.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the great video. I have a 2002 Chevy Venture Van that has a blower motor that blows on all the various speeds, however, I do not feel the high setting is strong enough. It could be they way they designed it. But, assuming it is and I am still wanting it to blower harder, what is a way to safely increase the blower speed beyond factory specs and or find a replacement motor that has a super blowing speed. If that super blower exists where do you find and rate them? I like Ac that blows you out of your seat lol. So, how do I achieve that if they designed the OEM to blow at an unacceptable High, but not high to me level. Thanks

    @imru06 Having to tap the blower motor to get it going is a sure sign that the motor is on it's way out. It does not sound (from your description) like replacing it will address your fan speed issues though. That will take some diagnosis.

    I have a 2005 Pontiac G6 GT. The fan control works as designed. Clockwise,or counterclockwise to control speed. However, the air is somewhat misdirected. The air from the airconditioner does not come out of the instument panel outlets. Instead it comes out through the side window outlets. Which is not nearly enough cold air for these warm temps we are experiencing. It worked fine up untill about 2 weeks ago. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you, Danny V.

  • @TradingCarMechanic
    @TradingCarMechanic  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @renan111 A common cause of your complaint is when the condenser fan is not working properly. The condenser fan pulls air across the condenser when the vehicle is not moving and low speeds. At highway speeds you can sometimes have enough airflow without the fan working to blow cold air.

    Hey there Mark and thanks for your helpful videos. I'm having and issue that hopefully you can help me with. I have a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer LT 5.3 V-8 with digital heater controls. I had no A/C or blower operation, put power directly to the blower and it worked fine. There were 2 times before I did any troubleshooting when after turning the engine off and removing the key, the blower stayed on. OK so I ordered a Chinese replacement Module, brand new because I thought the $38 cost was better than the $150 one (I am cheap lol). I installed it and everything worked great on all speeds ...... for 30 seconds, then the blower shut down ..... for 10 seconds and then restarted again for 30 seconds and again shut down for 10 seconds etc etc etc. Told the Chinese people about this and they sent me another new module free of charge. My thought was OK something is getting hot .... shutting down until it cools enough and then restarts (kind of like an engine coil does). I installed the replacement and have the exact same issue. In my way of thinking ... Its not the blower motor because when it runs, it runs fine. Looked at all the Maxi fuses but if they are bad wouldn't they just blow ? Got looking at your video and am now thinking it is a ground issue, problem being I have no idea where to look for the ground. Sorry this is so long but can't find a problem on here like mine. Thanks in advance. Jon

    • @TradingCarMechanic
      @TradingCarMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon: The blower motor could run and still have an issue. I don't know exactly whats wrong with your trailblazer, but I've seen and replaced blower motors on your model for binding and or drawing to much current. With that said, the module is the most common issue on the trailblazer and many other GM models.

    Would like to help Sharmin but many different things can cause this condition. I will list a few easier things to check. There are 2 fuses for the blower and a relay. The relay and 1 fuse I believe are in the under hood convenience center. The other fuse panel is under the dash on the left hand. Things like a bad blower switch and or wiring problems can also cause blower problems. Probably a good idea to get some professional diagnosis before replacing any more parts.

    Mgittelman I have a 2004 GMC Sierra I already checked all fuses and relays. The hvac module does not work on speed #4 and the ac doesn't always blow cold air, sometimes it blows just vent air.
    I know it's not the compressor.

    we already had checked the fuses they look to be good. So is there anything beside the control panel that could be causing no reaction of the blower?

    Can you tell me how to bypass my Blower resistor altogether on my 03 Dodge Dakota? I want to hook up a toggle switch if possible for high heat. I know the High wire going to the resistor is BLK/TAN but what would I have to do to get this to work. What would I hook the BLK/TAN wire to get it to blow high heat?

    This is the only one video about blower motor problems, very well explained on YT.
    Now i would ask u something not shown in the video...
    I have a Hyundai Coupe GK 2003 1.6cc and i noticed recently that wires of blower motor get really hot when i switch on air..(blower works on any speed)
    so hot that it was melting the connectors..
    I tried to add an additive resistor to understand if blower resistor were too low but even the resistor started to burn.. what can be the cause of this high drain?

    Whenever something runs when the key is off it's usually an indication of a bad power relay (stuck closed) but without seeing a wiring diagram for your lancer it's hard to say for sure. Just speaking in general terms!

    Good video. How do you check the ground as discussed. Also, I did not see any fuses listed for Blower Motor. Some tend to have codes. Is there some way to determine the fuses for the Blower Motor? Thanks.

    What if no power both of two wire for blower motor and fuel and relay good but no power coming on both any ideas?

    justabrake: I don't have the wiring diagram for your exact vehicle BUT I think Chrysler uses a high blower relay in conjunction with the resistor. If this is the case the relay being bad (contacts stuck closed) is far more likely than a bad switch. In the end it could be the switch but it's just "less" likely. I don't know why but I seem to find bad relays in Chrysler products more then any other make, that's why I lean towards them.

    My 1999 wrangler tj HVAC works perfectly. Until I select front vents or feet vents (non ac) But everything else works. The defrost, defrost and feet, front, floor, that are powered with the ac. I replaced the selector. Checked all vacuum lines and actuators. They all work. So when I select the 2 settings that dont use the AC, the blower completely shuts off. What should I look for?
