- Who doesn’t love a classic rainbow design? This colorful, cheerful, crowd-pleasing soap is the perfect project for intermediate or more advanced soapers. The layers are wavy instead of perfectly straight, which makes every bar unique!

The key to this rainbow soap is the prep and watching the texture of your soap batter. Bring the soap to a very thin trace in the beginning - this will give you time to thicken each layer before spooning it into the mold. To prevent the soap from becoming too thick, we chose our Gentle Quick Mix. It's a palm-free blend of slow-moving oils. The recipe is scented with Apricot Freesia Fragrance Oil, which is a sweet scent that gives you plenty of time to work.

If you live in a cold climate, we recommend placing this batch of soap on a heating pad for a couple hours. This will promote gel phase, which makes the colors in this recipe really pop. Speaking of color, Kelly Green Mica morphs when it comes in contact with soap batter. Don't worry, it returns to a beautiful bright green!

5 lb Mold with Sliding Bottom
Silicone Liner for 5 lb Wood Mold
54 oz. Gentle Quick Mix
7.7 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
17.2 oz. Distilled Water
2.5 tsp. Sodium Lactate
3.5 oz. Apricot Freesia Fragrance Oil
Titanium Dioxide
Red Mica
Sunset Orange Mica
Yellow Mica
Kelly Green Mica
Caribbean Blue Mica
Queen's Purple Mica
Snowflake Sparkle Mica

I've heard you can just wrap soap in a towel and leave indoors in a warm room, don't really need the heat pad. That is optional for soap making. I don't even do that. I just leave it out, or throw a hand towel over it.

What oil do u use without your mix as nz here
Hello! Do you use oil from the original weight of oils to mix the colors or can you use a lower super fat and add the colored oil for extra moisture? Or is it a small enough amount that it doesn’t matter?

So with all those colors you are actually adding that many more tablespoons of oil to your soap batter?
It's just superfatting the soap a bit more
yup its just superfatting, it all gets saponified
If you are worried about over fatting your soap you can use your batch oils to blend your mica, but then you need to add it ALL back into your soap.
how would you go about making a more translucent soap? emulsify it for less time?
Translucent soaps are made of melt and pour soap (a glycerin soap), rather than cold process soap.
Can you tell me what temp you soaped at? I tried the lavender and the orange kit and they both left dark circles in the center. Please tell me how you avoided that with THESE kits.

I'm not sure if its truly required to mix the yellow with red. The mixture turned more pink than red.
can you substitute using tallow and do the colours and scents work with it the same? Also, why do you (?always) need the alcohol spritzed on top? Thanks!
Alcohol spray prevents formation of ashy tops (soda Ash) on the exposed part of the soaps.
And gets rid of bubbles on top

Dear Anne, we love you and we trust your recipes, dear 5years ago I start to do handmade soap, thanks God, I'm doing well, and I m using your recipes in lotion and scrub, now I need try to do with lye ashes, 5 time I fall, if you help me for this, example how I can calculate for lye ashes? You will have to use an oil calculator, but you can make your own oil mix using babassu oil up to 30%, or beeswax up to 8%. I've never tried doing so, just going with what I've read online. One of my friends is allergic to coconut. She breaks out in hives if she uses soap with coconut in it.

Love your videos! But concerned because all quick mixes have always been under what they are quoted at, so with you saying you've given us just enough, concerns me for this recipie because what if the other 400 ml layers aren't the full 400 if that makes sense

This is really pretty but if you wanted a "classic/ traditional rainbow" then you need Indigo. The "classic/ traditional rainbow" is based on the visible light spectrum. Those 6 colours in the order you have them is the LGBT+ pride flag.
