🌿Citric acid information:
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

Thanks to your inspiration, I made my first batch of soap. It was just the very basic beginner cold pressed recipe. Tallow, olive oil and coconut oil. Then mixed lye into water. I was quite surprised on how hot the water lye mixture reached. I did add a very little cedarwood and geranium essential oil. I'm not into overwhelming scents. It smells so clean. I can wait to try it out. It's been curing for 2 weeks now. Thank you. 🌻👋 Love your channel.

Hi, your fine detailed videos are very helpful and I'm learning something new from every single video I'm watching in this channel.
It's almost impossible for me to treat you to some tasty meal as I live far way. So, for now only these🥞🍖🍲🍧😋
Thank you so much🤗🤗
Absolutely beautiful soap. Cream is a bonus! Do you have a recipe for a super moisturizing bar for aging skin. Lanolin seems to be good. Turning 60 soon!
Thank you Belinda! I don't, but lanolin sounds good😊
Lovely video as usual.
My issue with alkanet , the grey colour to the soap after adding lye.
Liked ur suggestion of adding Titanium dioxide.
Thank you☺️
Beautiful process. Thank you for sharing. Where do your soap score on bubble ratio using SoCal? Just wondering if they’re low ion suds?
Thank you for your detailed videos 🫶🏾🫶🏾 what was the reason you infused lavender with almond sweet oil this time?
Molly! 😘❤️😍🥰
🐶🥰
Alkanet is one of my favorites for purple. I find it needs to be infused though for several weeks but then you can get that light pastel purple without adding synthetics like TD.
I need to be more patient😁
I did that for almost a month still got this greyish shade
A month okay, I need things to do in the winter months
I was thinking to adding less colorant, k
@@joyaghosh2940 you need a stronger infusion rate. Try 30g alkanet per 500 grams oil
Yaar missing you..... Big fan
Beautyfull Molly❤
🐶🥰
Спасибо .
Hi Sara,❤ beautiful soap as usual. It's a body soap means could you explain your facial routine
Thank you💝 The soap is meant for the hands and body, personally i don't wash my face a lot lol but when i do i prefer surfactants
👍 GOOD VIDEO👍
What oil do you use for infused the lavender and alkanet?
writing down the ingredient will be helpful, thanks
Hace pico descubri tu canal seria genial aunque fuera con subtitulos en español saludos desde españa
I Love your art, science. Where do you order your essential oils from, please. Id love to make this with a friend.
Thank you🤗 I don't know if it's helpful to you but recently i ordered from an estonian shop called 'relumee'
I would love to see you make a liquid soap, please.
I love your videos…question…are there certain essential oils that you use
Thank you! I don’t use the most expensive ones🙂 i think my favorite is lime!
What is the alternative for olive oil and fresh lavender
What can I use for the powder alternative
Thanks for you, what is alkanet root?
Wonderful videos. Can you tell me what the citric acid does? I am new to soap making and learning what all the components contribute to the end product TIA.
Thank you! Please check the description box for information☺️
❤❤❤
Can i leave kannet root or replaceing❤
Can I make this at home and sell it ?.. cause wow
please, can the emulsifying wax be replaced with BTMS 50? well thank you
Can I use beetroot powder instead of alkanet root powder?
Dear Tellervo I have question why you use distilled water more than soapcalc estimate 33g from 123g to 156g, So in clip cucumber soap too thank you so much for answer 🥰😍 🙏🙏
Can. You tell what emulsifying wax you put in cream
Hello I love watching your videos and want to start my own soap business can you please tell me where you got your scale from and also do you have a video on the importance of measuring the ingredients and why it’s needed
Awesome🤗 the scale is from amazon!
@@tellervo. thankyou so much 🥰
Hi I have been following your page and ur videos are amazing 🤩. Watching them feels like I want to try making soaps too 😊. Just wanted to know why you put it in the oven instead of keeping it for 6 weeks for the lye solution to settle ?
Thank you so much🤗 i put it in the oven to try to force gel and after that the cure time is still 4-6 weeks!
@@tellervo. ohhh I thought that’s about it .. 😊 that 4 to 6 weeks is a must then looks like . Thank you for the reply though. Take care .
Gorgeous! Just a quick question- when you infused the olive oil you used 250g, but only used 204g in the actual soap. Did you have some left over that you just didn’t use, or did the amount of oil you got go down because of waste when you strained the oil out? Sorry, such a specific question I know 😅
Thank you! I made the infusion with 250 g oil to make sure i would have enough for the recipe which called for 204 grams🙂
Can we do it without the titanium dioxide
I want ur booklet
❤❤❤❤❤❤
alkanet root powder è la radice di barbabietola ?! Grazie, bellissimo video segnato tutto da fare 🤩
No
💜
Hey Tellervo hyd? Love your recipe looks so soothing and calming can't wait to give it a try on my end.
I have a question about the mitre box and soap cutter you use, i went on Cafe de Savon website it's really hard to navigate the language is written in Japanese i kept scrolling on Google until i happened upon both tools unfortunately the only option for payment is through Amazon Pay after creating a separate account i found out that option is not available outside of the US so having explained my dilemma do you have another vendor to suggest where i can purchase the above mentioned items? I will await your response. Enjoy the rest of your day!!😊
Awesome🤗 I ordered the cutter quite a few years ago and i don't know of any other vendors. I would recommend contacting their customer service if you want to make a purchase!
Hey Tellervo hope all is well with you and the family 😊 apologies for the late response i will reach out to the vendor wish me luck!😊👍
Take care
When you reduce a recipe to exactly half the size, does it have to go through the soap Calc or can you just half everything?
Just like therapy
Did you use any special essential oil or any brand can work
Any brand is fine☺️
Hello
What can I put if dont have alkanet powder? ❤❤❤❤
You can use any purple colorant thay you want🤗
