    超名演です!軽快なテンポ、透明感ある音色、誇らしげな響きの金管群、そしてフィナーレのティンパニは圧巻!
    グラズノフ4番にはぴったりの演奏!

Glazunov IS highly underrated. I particularly like his 2nd Piano Concerto.

I wonder if there was ever a complete cycle of Glazunov's complete symphonies done in concert. If not that would be a shame to this underrated composer.

He's one of the greats, a sort of parallel Rimsky Korsakov or Borodin or even Tchaikovsky in terms of melodic invention and style.

To my taste, the most lyrical Russian symphony.

"the most lyrical Russian symphony." Come on even msore lyrical than say Rachmaninov's 2nd symphony? I will admit that I am just RIGHT NOW discovering all of the lyricism that Glazunov put into his eight symphonies.

Tchaikovsky's 2nd also pings high on the lyric-o-meter.

    軽快なテンポで、いいと思いました。
    グラズノフの交響曲では、まとまりの点からこの第4番が1番いいように思います。

With a light tempo, I thought it was good.
In Graznov's symphony, I think this 4th is the best in terms of unity.

    Please note...
The description states the symphony N. 5 was know mostly in America. But it refers only to a part of ¨America¨ , a vast continent. So it refers to USA ,not to Latin American ,the rest of the continent. It is a very usual confusion. To avoid the confusion we in this continent uses North America, Central America and Antilles , South America . Same as Europeans uses Central Europe and East Europe, not only Europe alone.

First of all, I’d venture a guess that chances are high that a young Rachmaninov, then a student at the Moscow Conservatory, may well have attended the premiere performance of this work. Why do I think that? I refer to a brief 13-second passage which occurs in this performance starting at the 10:17 time stamp, and ending at 10:30.
Rachmaninoff may well have remembered not only the lush harmonic progression and orchestration, but also the general ‘feel’ of this most exquisite and memorable 13-second passage more than once, appearing in a number of his own compositions, most noticeably in what a great majority of musicians, scholars, and music-lovers alike consider his greatest achievement, the masterful E-minor 2nd Symphony. Though pure speculation on my part, I’d venture a guess that Rachmaninoff greatly admired not only this passage but also the work as a whole. So much so, that he may have deliberately ‘lifted’ this passage as partial revenge for what was possibly the darkest day of his life, occurring at the start of the spring of ‘97. That was the fateful day when a severely intoxicated Professor Glazunov staggered up the walkway and through the stage door to conduct what was reportedly a complete train-wreck of the premiere performance of Rachmaninoff’s first symphony. Whether Rachmaninoff ever forgave Glazunov, we will never know. But maybe, just maybe, he ultimately got his revenge, lol.
Anyways, I digress - back to the 4th Symphony of Glazunov:
The heartfelt and emotional Eb minor introduction and exposition of the opening movement nearly always brings on the tears and goosebumps. One of the most notable passages where this occurs is at the climax of the section where the melody up to that point had been weaving and winding around itself over limited span of notes, only to suddenly explode into the stratosphere featuring a dramatic octave ascent to a high Bb in the first violins. Anyone unmoved by this or the numerous other heartfelt and memorable passages throughout this magnificent work has my deepest sympathies.
Regarding this performance, it is one of total commitment by conductor and orchestra alike, featuring an absolutely first-rate interpretation by Serebrier and the Russian Nationals. Highly recommended! 5 out of 5 stars!
