    For this kind of temporary spacer, jig, bushing type of stuff, 3d printing is really your best friend. very simple geometric 5mins modelling and 2 hours printing, you can get any spacer you like. not sure anyone else comment about 3d printing below.

    Why did you install the forks, mask them off, spray paint his yokes 🤦‍♂️ , only to remove the masking tape and forks, to fit something that won’t appear on the finished build?
    This feels like padding.

    Decades ago, Harley Davidson created a light and agile motorcycle to compete with the Triumph T100, the Sportster was born. Since then, it seems that Harley has forgotten how to make standard bikes, has become a prisoner of the style it created. Seeing someone putting on 18-inch wheels and sports controls represents a rescue of this story, congratulations Dell!

    It sounds like you're working on a reproduction of the Harley Sportster cafe racers that were made available from the factory for a brief period back in the 80's. I had an opportunity to buy one, and foolishly passed on the chance.

    Another great video brother ! one day I will get a lather lol I feel its such an art to create custom pieces out of nothing 👍 and saves a lot of money 💰 I love the looks of clip ons on a bike it gives it more of an aggressive look but as long as you are comfortable riding it, its all the matters 💪 I think you are doing the correct way of testing them first and go from there ! Keep up the great work brother you rock ! stay safe guys cheers from new york 🍺🍺🍺🥂🥂🥂

      Hey brother, great to hear from you! Really appreciate your kind words and yes you should get yourself a lathe, if you use it even once a month to make something, or rectify something, then it'll pay for itself... and you have the joy of that extra self sufficiency... thankfully the weekend's here at last, enjoy yourselves over there and keep safe, best wishes from both of us!

    With those being billet aluminum, they're every bit as stout as the brackets that come with the bars. You could easily tap in a couple of set screws into each to prevent rotation, and I think they'd be as safe as you'd want. You could even do some cross hatching for grip if you wanted to be extra sure. Just my thoughts. Once again....You make me want a lathe. LOL Excellent work, as always, brother.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess you're right buddy, but with the top tree offered up, they look kinda clumpy and stick out too much, plus the actual bar section is 7/8" when it needs to be a full inch... if I really like the position, some RSD clip-ons would look awesome... thanks for your kind faith, now go get that lathe!

    Respect for your machinist skills Del. In this CNC world we live in now it's becoming a bit of a lost art. Great idea to mock up the rider's triangle. I think back to the many TV bike build shows of years past and while many of the bikes were drop-dead beautiful some were only borderline rideable. Thank you Del and Penney for all you do. God bless and stay well. ❤👍👍

    Hey Del, would your lathe be able to handle machining lower forks? I.E. latheing down the fender mounts for a smoth lower fork leg? I want to invest in a small metal lathe for that purpose and other small projects

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lathes are measured partly in their maximum length between the chuck and the tail stock centre.. mine is 500mm, which means it can only hold a bar or tune up to that length unless it can feed down through the chuck. So measure your fork slider from the lip at the top to the very bottom, if it's over 500mm then it wouldn't fit in a 500mm lathe ! if it does fit, then remember it becomes a more challenging operation if the fork slider is tapered as you would have to cut in the same angle as that taper. The other option would be to carefully cut the lugs off and then hand file and sand down until it's smooth.! Hope that helps.

      I did consider that Gabriel, take a 1" bar and just machine the last two inches down to 7/8" and being solid, they wouldn't need bar weights, so it's certainly a possibility, but the main clamps look a little clumpy next to the top yoke, so we'll see how it goes! Thanks for your input mate.

    Greetings to you Del... well done as always... I'm impressed that you don't cut corners even for just a temporary mock-up that you know won't be permanent. Many people would have just jammed a shim or some such, but you took the time to make a very secure (and nice-looking) spacer for a proper mount. And personally I really like the look of a Sportster with clip-ons. It will definitely be a more aggressive riding position, but not sportbike agressive (because of the difference between seat height and bar height). I hope you'll like it, cause I think it would be an awesome look. :)

    Here are a set of Sportster rearsets that are not tremendously expensive:
    chainsikle.com/menuitem/viewmenuitemproducts/id/3
    I'm not sure I like how they will angle the rear brake master cylinder upwards to the rear - looks like it will affect the brake fluid reservoir - but there are other options too.
    Here is another set that looks like it might be nicer - keeps the rear brake master cylinder level - but is double the price:
    www.satoracing.com/rearsetshdss.htm
    I don't know if these are available in the UK, or what the shipping costs might be.

      @@Moonfleet41 you won’t go wrong with sato racing parts. I use their product on my fireblade and tho they are a tad expensive, they are just quality made and worth every penny.
