  • The Subaru Crosstrek with the Manual Transmission has a different AWD system, and a different set of safety features. In this video I talk about those differences and how they may or may not affect you! Want to see this vehicle in person? Since my daughter will be able to drive next year, I have been making myself nuts looking for an AWD with a stick shift as that is the greatest theft deterrent in the states. I found Scotty K talking about a Subaru which I never thought about before which checks all of the boxes. I was thinking about an Acura TL AWD but I so love a hatch back. I purchase a 10 yo CRV with 40 k on it. But I am BORED out of my mind as this is the first automatic in 30 years.
I love everything about the car above except not a fan of dark colors. They look great when just polished but horrible every time afterwards.
    Great review!!

Trying to find a larger vehicle to haul groceries, pets, and “stuff” that has a manual transmission like my Miata 6 speed. I want to drive my car, not have my car drive me. The biggest joke are the CVTs with “Paddle Shifters”! Seriously, folks! Here in north Florida, we get torrential downpours frequently. Nothing like feeling your car literally floating down the road. Stick shift, symmetrical 4 wheel drive you can stop the hydroplane and get the tires down on the road where they belong. Floating is for boats, not cars. Interesting point about the EyeSight system causing a stall-I wonder if the engineers actually realized that. I’m keeping my Miata until I am no longer able to get in or out if it. But a vehicle with a larger trunk capacity and six-speed manual transmission is what I want. I’m glad we no longer have to jump into the creek to turn the hubs to engage the four wheel drive anymore, but I wish the manufacturers would notice we traditionalists want our real cars, not cars controlled by microchips.

I have an 2021 Impreza sport hatchback in manual. I also just added an Thornton performance chip and it works,... kinda. Id say it gives my Impreza 15-20 more HP, putting it where it should have been on power in the first place. Really enjoying driving it now. I also added an illuminated shifter knob, El wire, underfloor lighting, LED headlights, and even pin stripping.

So sad the stick is gone, and we're left with a lethargic CVT. Guess unless I can afford a WRX, I won't be getting another Subaru.

The newest WRX is CVT too.

Only the top trim is CVT only, the rest have stick

Even the VW Golf R lost the stick shift option. Sacrificed on the altar of emissions...

I just did a random google search and discovered this informative great video! I live in Michigan and have religously been searching for a manual Crosstrek for six weeks! I never thought it would take me this long. I'm replacing my manual RAV for which I've had for 17 years-best car ever, which have been discontinued in a stick. I have avoided the first year for this vehicle (2013) as well as all others except 2017. All the research tells me the other years are prone to gasket leaks and key ignition problems. I don't want to purchase of course a head ache. My question is, am I right to avoid those years? I could have purchased any one of them in a manual the first week I began looking. I hope you will advise me accordingly. Thank you!

We have a manual transmission Jeep. We call it the cheap Jeep… Manual roll down windows, no power locks. We tow it all wheels down. Looking at Subaru for our next car. Can this manual transmission be towed all wheels down?

I'm not sure if the Subaru can be flat towed behind an RV... You may want to check with a Subaru dealer. Never take a salesperson's word for it though, make sure they provide documentation saying that it CAN be towed, just to be sure.

2nd. Love manual transmission. Shame not being done for USA market, people getting slackers and wanting to pay more on repairs

Agree. So many will soon have no idea how to drive a manual. Seems to be heading that way here in the UK.

I've worked with dealers where the salespeople can't drive manual transmission vehicles. I know several people in their 20's who have never been inside a manual transmission car! It's interesting for sure!

@@PeterLoweOne I once had a 1980 Range Rover (the first type) which was permanent 4WD, and it had the main gear stick, the high/low shift, and a common conversion which was a bolt-on overdrive unit…. So three sticks! And for a heavy hill start you had to start in the low box, then double shift into high-2 from low-4.That was a real challenge…. But we did it… and double declutching was second nature. (Now I am giving away an age!!) 👨🏻‍🦳

What? No eyesight cameras. Good! Just more electronic garbage newer cars are plagued with and the annoying noises they make. I've been driving for 25+ years and have never needed all these stupid safety systems new cars come with.

Eyesight cannot work with manual transmission. Subaru dumped manual for 2024.

funny thing is yes it can, they actually offer the WRX with the same 6MT AND Eyesight! so I have no idea why it was left out of the manual Crosstrek.
