They might enjoy looking up the meaning of transitional decor: having both traditional and contemporary elements. The designer explained that this house is transitional because it has elements of traditional style, in this case farmhouse, as well as contemporary. For those who think this is a completely contemporary home, they can look at photos or videos of truly contemporary homes and they will see the difference. For instance, contemporary styling favors straight lines. She explained how she designed furniture that had a touch of farmhouse style, but she made it more sleek. No bric a brac. Unlike farmhouse, contemporary styling follows the design sensibility that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. She made many decisions that blended the styles together. I think that if people watch the video again they will be able to point out the various choices the designer made to create a beautiful transitional home.
This is a stunning home! I especially love the cabinets throughout the home and paint colors chosen for them. The sitting area is really amazing. I can just imagine sitting there enjoying the view from those magnificent windows. Well done!
Kudos Kudos to the designer. This is probably one of the most beautiful homes I have seen on House & Home. I love that wall in the herringbone pattern in the foyer. It reminds me of trees. The color is beautiful. Many times I was considering adding some more color in my home but after seeing this video I am going to stick with the same tones as I always have: light wooden floors, a lot of white and some black and soft greyish blue colors. There isn't anything about this home I do not like. Absolutely stunning, amazing interior design and of course spectacular views. If they have an additional guestroom I would be more than willing to stay.
@Carl --- It's always tricky knowing when to totally change your decor style. While 'new' can be fun, there's nothing wrong with staying with your own 'tried and true' tastes.

After reading comments from viewers, I think often that people forget that people hire designers to help create a cohesive polished look and functional space that they envision(Design Concept) but do not know how to achieve on their own. The end result is a collaboration between client and designer.
Thanks so much! It was an interesting space to light since the ceiling is all skylights. We decided the indoor/outdoor Wall sconces were the best approach and there are a few baseboard 'nightlights' throughout the upper hall as well.
Success in this stunning design is based on the designer ‘s ability to extrapolate the clients’ vision in what they perceived as ‘farmhouse’ versus the essential elements that were required to showcase the house’s architecture . Well done! 👏

Wow, I love this design, it’s everything I think I would want. The blue grey throughout, the tone of the hardwood, the master bedroom ceiling, the window seat in the office and laundry room are so pretty. Just add a Le Cornue range for me in the kitchen... beautiful, simple and I think timeless

What a great decision to use the large format porcelain tile around the fireplace. Then to frame it in a very clean way. I am so impressed with this designer. Keep It Simple!
The designer explains right in the beginning that this is her clients idea of modern farmhouse with heavy emphasis on modern. They clearly wanted some farmhouse elements/accents so to speak. I also like certain elements of the farmhouse look but less rustic looking. But I want some warmth. I currently doing a new build and this look will be my inspiration whatever the masses call it. Great job Nikki.
The blue-green backsplash in the laundry room upstairs would've looked amazing in the kitchen as well. I like the clean simple airy design throughout the entire house, it's very uniform I enjoy it.

I love the look, it's absolutely beautiful. This would be right down my alley for eclectic decor taste. The type of eclectic look that matches and although it's got some contemporary with little touches of modern and farmhouse, it all just fits, works well together. I notice the mixture of golds and silvers with regards to fixtures and hardware seems to be a trend these days. Some pull ot off well while others look mismatched and stand out. This house is a great example of how well put together mixing the two works.

I want to hang family pictures in the living room and have art in the dining areas. As much as I love modern, somehow this space presents a challenge in my mind to accomplish that. The space is so clean and modern.
Love the black windows and doors that reach the floor. But the colors are just "to cold" for me especially in a snowy climate. COLD! COLD! COLD! BRRRRRR!
