I had the enormous honour of eventually being able to call John Renbourn, my mentor in so many ways, a friend. Such a generous soul, and an incredible musician. Five spirits making such magical music. Thanks for this. They were, and still are, unique.
Her voice is like spun glass. The constantly spinning vibrato and control even at those breathy sections as well as the range jumps and hitting everything! And the band was excellent! Blending so many elements and making it work like there was nothing. Just discovered them today from a random TH-cam recommendation.
Pentangle are absolutely bloody fantastic and a brilliant group i have always loved them and I am forever listening to them and Jacqui's singing is absolutely beautiful and spellbinding i could listen to her for hours pentangle are sheer perfection oh how i wish i could turn the clock back in time to when music was proper music not like some of the shit and rubbish you hear kids listening to today greetings from Swansea South Wales UK 🏴 🇬🇧
Just phenomenal composing style and playing. The Pentangle is one of my favourite listenings together with Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Rich musical minds.
@@eahannanI saw them twice in 2008, then again in 2011 - all in London. The 2011 concert was Bert’s last before he died, and you could see the sadness on John Renbourn’s face.
Jacqui McShee is by far my favorite vocalist from the British folk revival, and maybe period. There might be a few opera singers (Te Kanawa, Fleming, Netrebko, Garanča, Sutherland, Freni, Tebaldi, Callas, Battle) who can match her, but no one is better, IMO.
So the Welsh and Irish northern if you want to be pedantic didnt produce any folk music and i dont really hear the Scottish influence here and im Scottish Why bring race into it Very superficial not to mention insular and tedious
I was introduced to Pentangle by a teacher at school and have loved them ever since. Is there any video of them performing The Trees They do Grow High?
Apparently Trish Keenan was a huge fan, her favourite was the lost broadcasts 1968-1972, hence the name of her most successful band, Broadcast ❤️. Rest in peace beautiful Trish, we all miss you x
I suppose the cameraman thought he was being artsy imposing one image over another, but it only results in you not being able to see either of them clearly. Very annoying! Fantastic group, fantastic singers and musicians, fantastic song.
Listening to this from my hospital bed today, quenched my soul
Hope you're feeling better ❤
@@cyprusd2049 Many thanks!! Yes, now out! ❣
@@stephenpettett3472 Glad to hear that my friend - take care and light flight.

Wonderful. Always loved these guys.did you love in London?
You were, I think, extraordinarily fortunate. I would have sold my soul to get to know John. Maybe in the next life.
I loved Pentangle. They were unique and exceptional and still sound amazing.

The theme to classic and groundbreaking BBC sitcom Take Three Girls
I remember buying Basket Of Light when I was 16 and loving it. My roots. R.I.P. Bert & John.
I first heard this song in 1971. Pentangle has been my favorite group ever since.
She was the perfect vocal for this group.
5 musicians at the top of their game - it doesn't get better than this...
Her voice is like a precious diamond!
Never tire of listening to this song. The intricacy, the time signature, a hippy anthem.

God, that voice. Pure.
They were just bloody perfection!
They made that look easy. Pentangle are a phenomenon.
My favourite Pentangle song ❤️
I remember that this was used for a TV series, called “Take Three Girls” , in the 70’s I think ….❤😊
Just phenomenal composing style and playing. The Pentangle is one of my favourite listenings together with Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Rich musical minds.
UTTERLY HEROIC; IF NOT GORGEOUSLY AWESOME!!!!
Fun fact: the album by this name was produced by Shel Talmy, who also produced Bert's "Birthday Blues" and...the Who and the Kinks!!!
One awesome song from my teen years. Close my eyes and drift back to long ago........
"Light Flight" was used as the theme tune to the BBC TV "Take Three Girls", set in swingin' London in the 60s. Some episodes are on TH-cam.
Danny Thompson ❤❤❤
Such a great bassist!
Total brilliance. Right at the top of their game.
Bloody fantastic. Why have we lost this degree of fantastic talent?
I was lucky enough to see this line-up three times. Stunning....
Very, very, very…. and where did you see them each time, if I may ask, with a wince of harmless jealousy?

Thank you, @@martinpugh1008.
Never fails to give me goose bumps.
Wow...a real blast from the past! Super voice...and some lovely guitar work there, guys! Thanks for putting this up!
Love the excursions in 5/4, 2/4, 6/4 etc. Delicately done.
Mind blowing perfection ❤
Incredible
This voice and this band, AMEN.
So glad I saw the classic line-up reunion tour at the Lyceum in 08 and got their autographs 👌
Original and a superb example, of English and Scottish folk music fusion; with jazz.
🏴 🏴 🇬🇧 👍

I would say this music is rooted with Celtic music.🇨🇮🍀
@seanbrou-bj9ob bollocks jazz classical and English pastoral folk music particularly Northumbria.
No trace of fiddly dee 🇬🇧
Listening and wallowing in nostalgia. Thinking of my final year at school before starting work all those years ago. Thanks for reviving my memories.
Simply sublime!
Thank from JAPAN
Fabulous performance music. Thanks for posting them. Good time for you.
How do I not know this band when I am such a huge fan of Annie Haslam and Renaissance?
sweet jesus, this band
One fantastic band
"Let's get away, you say, find a better place ..." 👍
Thank you for sharing this video. ✌️🙏🏻❤
Los amo. Gracias 💖🇦🇷🌻☯️
Splendid group!!!
it really doesn't get much better than this tho......
I wonder if The Stranglers were familiar with this….sounds like ‚Golden Brown‘ was inspired by it. Fabulous band and performance!
Yes! I hear it completely.
See dave brubeck. Take five and golden brown original
The old 5/4 "Take Five" groove here. So nice.
It's 12, divided 5/4 and 7/4, except for the slower middle part which goes to 6/8. What brilliant composition!👍
I was introduced to Pentangle by a teacher at school and have loved them ever since. Is there any video of them performing The Trees They do Grow High?
This is better than the album version for me, scary levels of talent!
So very very good

Pentangle disproves that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts...
What a vioce.
Muito show.
Love this.......
Terry Cox has a got a "50 ways to lave your lover" groove going there.
take 3 girls, me thinks
I have about 20 Pentangle and related CDs.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Ah, Take Three Girls!
All day long 😌
I can't believe that there is a voice like Jackie's
Or Bert Jansch's.
Never heard this before
Found it on

Pa ba du pa ba du di tam pa :)
I prefer this to the studio version where the double tracking of Jacqui's voice didn't seem to blend well into the mix.
Anyone know what time signature this is in? Thanks!
5/4
I think Stereolab, PJ Harvey and King Gizzard to name a few where influenced by this band.
haha
Definitely Steriolab
It’s blatant,, and I never noticed…😂
Could you post the name of this song's writer?
great musicians and the girl is fine!
God almighty Lort Hab Mersuh she is!!
She is definitely FINE!!
And the band is straight 🔥!

Folk version with lyrics of Take Five.
No it isn't, this is in 12/8 time divided 5 and 7, Take Five is in 5/4.
@@ThinPicks Sounds very similar to me.
@@babylonsburning1 Count it with your fingers: 5/7/5/7, except for the slower part in the middle of course!
Sounds like golden brown by the stranglers..
Not far from it, true
Both this and Golden Brown have a bit of influence from Take Five, by Dave Brubeck.
@@mandoprince1 Maybe, except that this is in 12/8 time, divided 5 beats and 7 beats in the verses, really innovative and interesting 👍
Golden brown a waltz and this very very similar rhythmically
