He was brilliant as King Henry. There was a lot of great acting on that show but he was absolutely mesmerizing and was the main attraction that brought that film to life and completely drew me in from beginning to end.
Jonathan's performance in tudors, was juste a pur gold. I don't forget all the incredible actors who composed this show and who made a diamond out of it. All were amazing. I was literally immersed in the 16th century. Thanks to the person who made this show and who cast these actors.

I just watched the Tudors all 4 seasons. His acting is so good I was literally crying at the end when Henry died. That’s how good this man is at acting I seriously felt bad for him and if you’ve actually watched the show no one should feel bad for Henry

Obviously that's a result of the screenwriters giving his character the glorious stuff that's easy to like. If you look past that, and your infatuation with good looks (I presume), many of them are as good or maybe even greater in acting. The actress who played Catherine of Aragon is incredible.
Goodness. he is brilliant at interviews and his perspective on history, culture and context of this period of history. He is such a passionate actor and has such natural beauty. i am sad that he had some demons to face with alcoholism and i trust that he has healed this part of his life. i am so impressed with him and hope his star continues to shine. good luck to him.
I believe he's not so much talking about the age difference but also the fertility involving women at that age. As well as the sexual attraction that may have fallen at that time as well. Because she was in her 40s at the time and he was still in his mid 30s. Where as, the age of 5-6 years isn't too much time. I think the more important thing is where their ages were specifically at the time. In the end, his reasons for loving anne boleyn were both human and unfaithful. I do sympathize with him, in the pressure of having to solidify your family's legacy to the throne, but getting with Anne boleyn the way he did was pompous and selfish. And like Jonathan just so beautifully said, an act of youthful lust and naivity. Sorry if I projected this as an argumentative nature, just putting in my two cents. Love the Tudors, and Jonathan!

Bravo! Recently finished the Tudors series for which I was fully enthralled. Jonathan Rhy's acting commanded my respect for the many layers of depth in role of King Henry Vlll.
we fell in love with Dracula (which is a brilliant version of the famous story) but we never watched the Tudors (for some reason I don't know! ) so we are now marathoning The Tudors and find JRM to be an outstanding/talented/brilliant actor! this interview was enjoyable to see especially in the light of the fact it was made BEFORE the Tudors actually aired for the first time.
Katherine was a brilliant and well educated, proper queen. She had the love of the people and was raised in the art of Strategy and Tactics People tend to underestimate her.

Jonathan, I have never heard a better explanation than "You have to be young to fall in love they way he did with Anne Boleyn" It is so true. When this first came on (The Tudors) I was of a certain age, now, being in my 40's, I 100% understand what he means. Young love is often filled with all the drama, all the angst, all the deep emotions that run through us as a young person... falling in love at 40 is quite different. Things that were so dramatic at 20, barely make a dent at 40........ I loved hearing this and seeing this. Having watched the Tudors at that younger age, and seeing it now at 40ish, it's like a different world....... even love is different for the young. Great show! Great actor. Love this!!!!

Well, all powerful men are attractive to most women...whether they are physically beautiful or not. Contemporary writings say that Henry was extremely good looking...tall, healthy, powerful, etc. While some of that may be fawning BS, it does seem that Henry was the supreme alpha male in his milieu. There are many examples in our own lives....and in the 1500s, Henry was the superstar of the age.

Just binge watched all four seasons and it was brilliant. JRM was the best actor for the role as Henry. He understood the character inside out and gave a performance that would be hard to beat. I agree with the comments about JRM's own comment about being in love because you are young, that is so right. When you are young you feel the need to seize the moment more than when you are older and wiser. I loved all the characters who at some point or other went through their fair share of treading on eggshells. It was interesting that you could see an ever so slight softening of his character but mostly his responses were predictable as a king of that stature would be. Without knowing who you could trust, it was a veritable mine field. I loved every second of it!

That was the time, the construct that was put into his head in his early years. And Catherine of Aragon sadly was too old to give birth, so his divorce was not only out of lustful passion as modern minds tend to think.

Actually Henry was as old as 34 when he met Anne. And he married her even later - being 42.
There was no other actor that could have portrayed Henry VIII better than Jonathan did.. And the same goes for all of the other characters.

When henrey was in his early twenties he was desribed as incredibly handsome, he only grew older and fatter towards his thirties

a brilliant actor. he gives all his characters such intensity that you can't help but think about his character long after you watch his movie, then you have to find another of his movie because you can't get over him. he's very addictive to watch and he's an incredibly goodlooking guy!! at present, I am inlove with him in THE VIKINGS!!! I hope they don't kill him off and lagertha, that would be devastating and I will stop watching if they do that!!!

That was the time, the construct that was put into his head in his early years. And Catherine of Aragon sadly was too old to give birth, so his divorce was not only out of lustful passion as modern minds tend to think.

I'm surprised how articulate he is, nicely done JRM. This sexy, fascinating, visually GORGEOUS series is available on Netflix - two seasons are available instantly online and the other two need to be rented. It is SO worth the time. Don't go spouting Tudor history until you do a little fact checking tho:-) They did take creative liberties.
