I never cared that he didn't look like Henry VIII. I LOVE that they cast JRM as Henry. He's amazing in the series and I could never imagine any other actor in this role. He did it so well.
I'm liking him more and more. What a passionate explanation, I mean who care if he doesn't look like Henry VIII at all. He's a great actor and I think he plays the King PERFECTLY!!
This is a BEAUTIFUL man. I could stare at him all day. Also, he seems highly intelligent. Like genius level. His portrayal of H8 was just excellent. I don't care if he doesn't look like him. He has the charisma and personality to pull it off. And he did.
I can't help feeling that they wanted to capture the energy of Henry, the desirability of him. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was definitely a great casting choice. Gorgeous.
Just finished the series and he is now my favorite actor. Absolutely astonishing performances. Jonathan you are one of the best!!! Congratulations from Romania!
He is a brilliant actor, passionate and so expressive. The role of Henry VIII was perfect for him it showed the range of acting ability he has, and on top of that, how intelligent and what a gorgeous actor he is. He took this role very seriously and his knowledge of history is evident here. He should have won an Oscar for this performance.
He was absolutely brilliant as King Henry VIII and he was so brilliant that he will always be King Henry to me!! I have only seen him in one other movie before this. How he describes this is brilliant and well said. The Tudors is one of me absolute favourite series! I have seen it many many times!! I could repeat just about every scene! 🥰💚🥰💚
He is just wonderful love him and the entire show just wished it lasted a little longer, maybe they should look at doing the same kinda show for Mary and Elizabeth their history, their lives but love this man totally
Allcat 72 And Like JRM said Henry did not look like the Holbein painting at all, he wanted to be seen as a mighty powerful King, but how the mighty have fallen, on the morning of Henry VIII burial, it's been said that his 28 stone (400lb), corpse exploded in his coffin, he is buried at St. George's Chapel next to Jane Seymour who gave him a son who was named Edward and later became Edward the 6th.
when I first saw that he will be henry viii. I was like, he doesn't look any near henry viii, why choose person that is not look like the character blah... blah.. blah... and then I saw him acting and I was like, shit!!! this person is a beautiful shit. there's no actor that can perfectly portray henry viii the way he portrayed it blah... blah... blah...
He doesn't look like Henry VII, but he was more than geniu when portraying the character of the king...he convinced us that he narrated the horror, and complicated life of this powerful king we spent extraordinary moments with Jonathan Rhys Meyer
A great series and a great actor. Acting is making you believe that they truly are the person they are playing and this did that. Brilliant cast, totally took me into a different time. I have watched a number of times, definately my favourite period piece
Proper thespy :)) i love him!!! i totally agree with him about the imagery of the character...it is so much more than an aesthetic character to portray and i think the series was stronger because JRM and the writers concentrated more on the real Henry and his character and not his looks. Love this series..seen it so many times... PLEASE make another using the same actors to continue the Tudor Dynasty story... I love The White Queen at the moment but not as much as this series :))
Loralyn F. He has said that he doesn't have any social media himself. Be careful not to be conned by fakes. I was taken in by someone pretending to be Henry Cavill, 100% believed it was him and that he was replying to my comments etc. Turned out to be some weirdo old man. The only social media JRM has is the Instagram ac he shares with his wife Mara, it was @thelionandthelambchop but I believe she's just changed it to @maralanerhysmeyers. She's very lovely and interacts with all of their followers. I would ask her if the Facebook is genuine or not, she'll let you know 😊
He played the first different phisically Henry VIII, and it was great bc for that he was unique. Jonathan is right about it. In the Tudors they showed what they wanted too, their own vision about that era and characters. The historical accurace is not so important sometimes, the abuse of precision sometimes bring us a bored story.
Many actors keep the accent they need to use on their show or movie even when off camera so that they don't slip in and out of it and possibly get it wrong. He is Irish. Remove head from butt, Think, then type!!
Just type in Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Russia in the search column on TH-cam and all of the press conferences & interviews he has done recently should come up.
He definitely doesn’t look like Henry VIII but he played him brilliantly I think. They could have given him gray hair and that might have helped a little bit more
I never watched the tudors before until this past month and I'm almost done the final season. I saw this actor on the Vikings for the first time and thought he was a really good actor. Then I started watching this out of interest and realized this was the same actor but 10 years younger since it came out in 2007. His acting definitely got better for the show the Vikings but even in this he was quite good at it and I didn't care about the similar appearance to what people may have thought King Henry VIII looked like.
That is not how H8 looked? We can base that upon his armor and its huge size, no? Or the fact that I read his mum was 5' 11" tall. H8 was a large well built man.
I think what he's saying is that Holbein enhanced as well as diminished certain aspects of Henry so as to give him a healthier, more appealing appearance. Tall and well built he may have been, but at this point he was also well over 300 lbs. Some slight Photoshopping might have been necessary.
I never cared that he didn't look like Henry VIII. I LOVE that they cast JRM as Henry. He's amazing in the series and I could never imagine any other actor in this role. He did it so well.
I've never heard an actor so passionate about his job. This is one of the reasons why I love him
Its 2023 and this still stands true
I love listening to intelligent actors talking about their craft.
I'm liking him more and more. What a passionate explanation, I mean who care if he doesn't look like Henry VIII at all. He's a great actor and I think he plays the King PERFECTLY!!
ComeAgain Zhen He Really did play Henry perfectly. Have you seen the film, ‘ Anne of a Thousand Days’.Richard Burton was great to!
This is a BEAUTIFUL man. I could stare at him all day. Also, he seems highly intelligent. Like genius level.
His portrayal of H8 was just excellent. I don't care if he doesn't look like him. He has the charisma and personality to pull it off. And he did.
Jonathon Rhys Meyers; he is one of the first actors I've heard, talk about their acting so seriously!
I can't help feeling that they wanted to capture the energy of Henry, the desirability of him. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was definitely a great casting choice. Gorgeous.
I absolutely love the Tudors! All of the cast was excellent. Jonathan Rhys Meyers performance was amazing , and his acting talents are limitless !
Just finished the series and he is now my favorite actor. Absolutely astonishing performances. Jonathan you are one of the best!!! Congratulations from Romania!
I love him. He's such an intelligent and assertive actor.
He sounds like a true actor :)

where did he learn about henry's personality ? is there books on that ?
Jonathan was incredible. He channeled Henry VIII to perfection.
He is so passionate

he is so perfect
I like the way he talk every thing of him 😍😍😍😍😍
So true about the Holbein painting. It was Tudor propaganda.

I have never seen a more attractive man than him
OpheliaDeubreux I have. He is gorgeous though.
Excellent portrayal Jonathon! Henry would be happy with your hard work. So talented, charismatic and focused. Thank you for sharing these insights.
He sounds so intelligent!!

I saw a interview he did a few months ago in Russia and his Irish accent is thicker now then it ever was.
He made Henry fascinating, the show was dynamic enticing to the viewer, it was easy to get hooked on Henry VIII
HE'S SO HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's my friend on face book. He's really cool!

I saws him in an interview years later, and he spoke with an Irish accent, no longer an English one.
I don't know maybe because he's Irish.
Just type in Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Russia in the search column on TH-cam and all of the press conferences & interviews he has done recently should come up.
Thank you for sharing - excellent
He was a great Henry 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

jrm was also brilliant also in Dracula 2013
Love.
A wonderfulll
of course I admire his looks and I like him as a actor but he is too good looking for that role
katarzyna muszynska He was perfect.

That's irrelevant
he's so sad, he is not around anymore :(
JRM
Yes GAWD!!
Vraiment. C'est. Formidable. Samira Algérie
do you have a link for that? Cause I was thinking the same thing about him losing his accent
Ha rappresentato egregiamente un grande pazzo Enrico ottavo
I love you😍😍😍😍😍
Some actors keep the accent there doing in the movie or tv show when there not filming to keep it sound authentic.
Yum
only snuggle?........
JRM is too intelligent for mainstream Hollywood.
Agreed. :)
Jonny my dear never wear a white shrit it wont last on you
pure cork!
❤
Last time I checked he was supposed to be Irish
Very lovely, shame he's losing that Irish accent :/
aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
If Henry did look like him, I bet none of the girls would mind being married off to him
i no its bollix :(
not bad but not for long term.
* Sigh *
Where his sexy Irish has gone?
