He portrayed the role of Henry so well. And to hear him speak and discuss Henry is somewhat mind blowing. I say this because I dont know him at all, only as the actor, but in this interview he comes across as a intense, passionate, and a intelligent person.Someone you would want to sit with for hours and talk about anything and he could speak on the topic.Great insight!
Idk 'bout all that chatting, but id defjjitely bed em!!😖smdh lmao i KNOW im goin to hell!!😖i cant help it lmdao😛😆lmao hes just amazing looking! My Gawd!!lmao
5:21 "you just have to cut their heads off"... my mom walked in right when he said that and her face was priceless and I just busted up laughing trying to explained what he was talking about!
he seems so pretentious, i love it. not in any false way, but in a professerly way. he talks with the brooding passion, a conceit. it would almost be intimidating to debate him, or discuss anything. but i think i would sit there enraptured by every thought or idea. charming man, frightening man
he's one of the few actors who actually knows the information about the historical settings and what not around his character. hes very smart and passionate. gotta respect the man
I don't care if he's dramatic, makes him more sensual lol The show wouldn't be the same with a different actor. He's got a great insight on Henry and it help me to understand his character more...
Oh...absolutely!! They couldnt have picked a better actor! This guy rocks it! Just as much as the guy who was picked to play Freddie Mercury in the Queen movie. Ya no? Great choice of actors!
Why does every body think this man is high all the time, because you read all the crap in the magazines and newspaper. Why can't anybody see how brilliant this man is? Jonathan, speaking for me, I love you, I love the way you are, you are handsome beyond belief and a serious and wonderful actor. When you are acting in a role, people KNOW you are that person you are portraying!
+Sheryl Morris He was high all the time!!! doesn't mean he's not intelligent and beautiful., but it's the fact that he drinks a lot and create chaos in public.
Sheryl Morris I've never read anything about him being high all the time. He is an extraordinarily gifted actor and not too bad looking either! LOL I adore him as well. He was INSANELY good as Henry VIII! The best and most unique portrayal I've ever seen!
Oh?? Idk they were bashing him?!! Hmm maybe thats in England?? Ive not heard anything of the sort here in USA tho. Idk, maybe its the color of his eyes? His eyes r pretty lite colored. Hes fukn great!! Fine!!😛😆👊❤lmao
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is so damn fine and he is such a fabulous actor, I love the Irish, I know that this is late But I also would like to send my condolences out to him and the rest of his family due to his mother Geraldine Meyers O'Keefe's late passing.
"...and Henry realizes that even if you really love somebody, including your sister, and they. try. to hurt you... You haf to cut their heads off." lmao
I am so GLAD for Jonathan that he has finally made his well-deserved big break... Of course he had to start working out those muscles to be noticed first. But I loved his earlier roles as well *faints*
You know, they might have caught him for this interview right after shooting an epi or right before. He looks more tired than anything. Sad I can't see his beautiful eyes all that well. In every interview he's given, JRM has said that he knows the show is not true to history. He tries to make his Henry 'bigger' by accentuating his ambition and demeanor. I think he does a great job. JRM is believable as every single character he plays.
jonathan un tres grand acteur il est magistral dans les tudors je l'adore il peut tout jouer cest un immense acteur il meriterai un oscar pour son role dans henriiv
I love the way he says "earls." His voice is like butter, velvet and champagne all rolled into one. He gave the most amazing and unique portrayal of Henry VIII I have ever seen in my life. Anne talked Henry into executing More, She was a bitch.
He's my Idol too! Got him as my Desk top picture (Tile mode) so got 15 pics of him in Tudor style clothes. Love the way he licks his lips when thinking what next to say. Very handsome man. Like the irish accent--his lips--eyes--Just everything really!
All history matters today. It tells us what worked & what didn't, &, when we really pay attention, it helps us figure out how best not to repeat what didn't work.
Holy Schmozz he is genuinely insightful -he genuinely understands what it was/is like for individuals...in past or resent times. Bloody intelligent and hot and extraordinary, Down Under says, “Job done awesome individual.” 👍
I know having pure english accents, was a bit off putting, and they could have tried to make them talk like the time a bit. Dont really know why they didnt, but everything else with "Rome" series, was spot on, plots, story, characters, even violence and sex, were very accurate to the Roman era. Theres even talk of a film coming out, following on from the series, which kind of proves Its success and forgiving of the whole "British accent" thing.
haha i love how he talks so dramatic like he's really getting INTO the story of henry! '..and they try to hurt u, u HAVE to cut their heads off' LOL that just cracked me up
To nemeth2009, do not be offended if an Irishman is playing Henry VIII: Henry was King of Ireland as well as King of England, and he was also of direct Welsh ancestry from the Princes of South Wales. So does it really matter?
"Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to .... and so on." But no, I guess you have a point. Its just ashame that anything historical on tv today, has to be glossed over, simplified and over stylized, in order to be accepted by the generation. But, then again, maybe I should just think of it like majority of the youth, Its entertainment, and Its only history, that doesnt really matter today.
Cudnt have put it better myself, this is exactly how I see the generation of today, thats just how they are. Only they wud never see it themselves. Trouble is theres nothing that can be done to change this fact. Also this is kind of why a lot of films dont have the same quality or even have any kind of character like the old ones. Its the actors, and when they try to Imitate or do anything in the same kind of style, nodding to classic great films, it fails dismally, "Australia" e.g.
I'm unfamiliar w/ Mr. Winstone, but, I totally agree w/ your statement. They should take a lesson from early Brando. I watched a documentary about the golden age of Broadway & one of his former co-stars mentioned that during B's play, "Truckline Cafe", he would get so into his role, set in the summer, B would actually begin to sweat onstage. That's the kind of intensity that today's actors are missing.
Exactly. I must clarify. I meant that the producers who choose gloss over substance & style insult the youth, not you.:)It's a vicious cycle, but, it can be dealt with by first get rid of all of the mediocrity in the entertainment business. It bothers me that JRM is so unclear about certain historical facts about Henry & his relationships. If the actor portraying him (for several years) doesn't even bother to get it right...
Великий актёр Джонатан Рис Майерс, очень красивый, темпераментный, видно хороший человек в жизни ,покажите весь фильм полностью, так давно не видела его!!!
I dont mean to be Insulting to the youth of today, but I do feel that History biopics and portrayals, can still be entertaining, fairly stylish, at the same time as being educational, and appealing to the youth. But I guess that isnt their fault exactly, Tv producers are the ones behind the entertainment, like you say. But at the same time, they themselves are just following what the young gen want and expect in their Tv value.
The short answer is, of course, yes. They've trained young people to accept only the most glossy of appearances, with absolutely no interest in substance. Interest in substance leads to thought, which leads to discernment, which leads to a higher standards in all facets of life & outright rejection of all mediocrity, which would, of course, sound the death knell for most media.
I watched this and I literally have no idea what he actually said - I was so enthralled by his sexy accent and the way he talks! Anyway... now to watch it again to actually listen to the content LOL
I love the way he licks his lips & half closes his eyes, he is so intense in the way he speaks & lives the part totally. I have him as my screen saver wearing his embroidered clothes worn in the Tudor series. I see him every time I start my iMac. He is male perfection.
I think that there's much that can be done to change it, but, the audience must demand it. In my mom's day, plays & current Broadway musicals were on prime-time network TV every week, w/ one channel airing the same play every day for a week. In the Wal-Mart world of today, we, the TV audience must demand a return to the very best our entertainment had to offer. people are nuts over American Idol b/c there's nothing of higher quality out there. People are suckers for quality. Cont'd
Agreed, your're right, trouble is thats kind of up to parents mostly, and if they dont have Interest, there isnt much chance. I admit I like some modern things today, of course, but I really favor and admire things from before my gen. I think Its Influences from my Grandparents, so I guess you could say, I've kind of been exposed to certain forms of "Classics," and therefore have an appreciation for them.
I have Jonathan as my screen saver so I know his face extremely well. I study his lips & eyes. I like the little bit above his top lip that is slightly unsemetrical. I like everything about him, particularly the way he licks his lips as he talks. I like his surety & his confidence, his dominance. I like strong characters.
Cont'd-Give people quality, their standards will rise, boom, you've got a return to artistic integrity in America. First, we must expose them to it. Young people on YT, for example, are coming around to the classic performers, becoming disenchanted w/ the mediocre performers of today & are, themselves, beginning to ask for the return to quality, IMO, it's all about exposure. As soon they're born, we must expose our kids to the beauty of the classics.
The tudors were brutal, medieval England was brutal, I understand the demi god mentality and the reputation of a royal being integrated with the reputation of your country.
well thank god for oliva cromwell , who after the civil war had then king , charles stewart executed for high treason against the people (the commonwealth of england vs charles stewart king of england ) and then codified our anicent consitutional rights in the bill of rights 1688 which the US copied from us including article 7 - "the subject that are prostestants shell have arms for their defence, suitable to their condition and as allowed by law " -- sound fimiular ?? to this day, gun ownership in the UK is a consitutional right

charming man, frightening man
i never saw much of his work until i started watching the tudors last week. what an amazing actor.
I enjoyed that series sooooo much. Jrm created a beautiful performance
he's one of the few actors who actually knows the information about the historical settings and what not around his character. hes very smart and passionate. gotta respect the man
Why would he wear a muscle shirt? I want to hear what he's saying.
Alicia Coburg Down here in Texas they call those T-shirts "wife beaters." Please, no disrespect to abused wives. It's just a shirt.

Never thought I'd actually agree with a justification of Henry's behavior. Nicely done JRM!
I don't care if he's dramatic, makes him more sensual lol The show wouldn't be the same with a different actor. He's got a great insight on Henry and it help me to understand his character more...

Only this man can play THE KINGS!!!
Brilliant guy and actor. Blown away.
Phenomenal actor. He was fantastic in that role. If you haven't seen it, Match Point was a really good movie and he was great in that too.
He strikes me as an empath. Very intelligent man.
He's very inteligent.Must be nice to have a conversation with him.
Love you Meyers. You really commit to a role which his further evidenced here. I hope that you heal and are doing well.

Good insight, the show is awesome. When I become the king of England I'll use it for references.
dont forget addicts are sick people who are suffering most for years in silence, they need all the love and support they can get...
Ich bin ja sooo froh, dass The Tudors jetzt auch in Deutschland läuft !!!
Danke, ProSieben :-)

Around Cork and Limerick in Ireland there are a good few guys that look quite like Johnny here. Same facial features.

this should be called ' the henry viii interview - from hell '
He just got out again last month. Let's hope he stays clean this time.

It's not love, my dear, it's called being cruel.

hes too gosh darn beautiful
Your features look like Simon Le Bon. Bellisimo!!!
