I have a 24 Platinum F350 with the high output power stroke engine. I love it and looking forward to driving it to Lake Placid and seeing what the mileage is.
I agree. Really the HO is the option for those using them commercially like Hot Shot trucking. The SO engine has been working just fine for my towing 19k up and down the Trinity alps, Cascades, Sierra Nevadas, and so on. Never even once wanted more power, more exhaust brake, or more of anything for that matter. Except more money when fueling in California. I can say I’ve wanted that. 😂
I have a HO power stroke and I have had a standard output 2020 before and one weird thing about the fords is that the computer takes a lot of power away from the truck until you get moving. I think it’s due to traction control or something because if I’m at a stop, I can’t get the tires to break traction if I stomp on the gas pedal but if I’m going about 10-15 mph and I punch it, it’ll spin the wheels pretty good and it takes off like a sports car haha. I wish there was a way to turn that off so the truck would give you full power from a stop.
Hit the traction control button to turn off the TSC. Then push it and hold it down to turn off Advancetrac (it will show in the middle of the gauge cluster). When you go to take off don't slam the pedal all the way to the floor. My 24 HO F450 CC gets from 0 to 60 in 6 to 6.5 seconds once I do this.
@@slidewide1999 no, it's Ford's tuning on the 23+ trucks. We've had a couple discussions about this in the Tremor forum. with the '22 and under trucks they'll get sideways no problem with the traction control off. The '23+ trucks still cut power once they detect wheel spin, regardless of which button you've held down for however long.
I went with the standard output myself. I have about 3k miles at this point. 20-24 mpg empty highway and 12ish towing (depending on weight obviously). Plenty of power and capability, Id say save the money and go with the standard
Nice side by side comparison. I noticed your national average diesel price was 3.59. while driving to see my dad yesterday we got diesel for 2.89 in Winchester , Ky.
There is better cooling on the HO. I would love to see a side by side test towing the same weight up a steep highway incline at the same time, so we can see gear differences, oil temps and trans temps etc
Amazing how good the 24+ L5P does 0-60 compared to both of these fords. And the L5P comes standard in every truck and runs much cooler… plus not near the issues that the HO powerstroke is having and the amount of DEF it uses
@@Billybob50119 gm must sell you a lot of dildos 🤣 all machines run different temps but this comment coming from a guy that thinks the ford 6.2 is a 3 valve 🙄
Good video. Definitely just for bragging rights. 1/2 second to 60 is negligible. It would be tough to tell that apart for most people. And then 3 tenths in the 1/8 at similar speeds would be even harder to tell apart. I’d save the $2000 or spend it on some other option if it were me. But some people today think 475 hp just ain’t enough lol.
They wouldn't stop producing the standard output it's in all the fleet vehicles. Cab and chassis, meat wagons, so many more.. even the huge utility service trucks have the 6.7 SO.
The standard output isn’t in the cab and chassis truck. The 6.7 in the CnC trucks is derated down to like 330hp. The standard output power stroke is 475hp, and comes in all the pickups as the base diesel
I can see yo are very technical about diesel engines, would you have a video showing how to drive a diesel as far as what to watch for: temp, exhaust filter, temp, etc and how to handle engine brake, that king of thing. I will be going toward a f540 diesel in near future.
If Ford gets rid of one of them, they should get rid of the H.O.. For the average driver, the S.O. should last longer and be more reliable. The more you "string" out an engine (I would consider increasing the compression and power levels "stringing" out), the less reliable an engine gets.
I've had four SO's prior to my '23 HO and I've never longed for more power but I have to admit that I much prefer the HO after driving it the past 14 months. I just drove to Florida and back from Texas last week and I average 22mpg at 70-75mph while on 37's, can't complain about that all while having more power and better acceleration at highway speeds. Is the HO worth it from a cost perspective, well that's subjective, but for most it likely isn't. For myself, I'd buy the HO every single day and twice on Sunday's. Thanks for the comparison video, I am sure some will find it extremely helpful.

I own a 23 standard output F250 and yesterday I test drove a 24 HO F350. In normal driving there is absolutely no difference. If you get into it, it blows the tires off a lot easier than the standard output. MPGs did seem maybe slightly better than my standard output. Both 3.55 rear ends. I probably would not order the HO but if it was on the lot and had everything else I wanted I might bite.
Ummmm, don't most people who go 3.55 is because they tow heavy, regularly, as opposed to those seeking to make a Bro-Dozer with larger diameter tires??
Maintenance costs are usually higher as well as fuel costs Ya gotta know where to shop for quality parts, and where to get quality fluids and quality fuel at the lowest cost relative to your area(s) you will be driving. Don't forget that insurance is usually higher (to cover the cost of accident related repairs [and deductibles])

Yeah they limit torque in the first 3 gears. When it’s tuned it spins really easy
That’s simply turbo lag. Once you moving and there’s a few rpm in the motor the lag is dramatically reduced.
