- Caution Jeep Wrangler 4xe 12 Volt battery disconnect is not your standard disconnect.
Wrangler 4xe is a PHEV and requires a different procedure for disconnecting the 12v battery.

F.Y.I. I just changed my battery:
For a while my remote start have been acting weird, at one point my gas cap would pop open by itself.
Finally the battery died, no start things started blinking
Tried to jump it, didn’t work
Replaced battery but it still didn’t start but had power and engine light and charge system error.
I didn’t unplug the F9 fuse.
Found this channel and followed his instructions, car is back to normal!

Disconnect battery
1. Remove IDCM fuse F09
2. Disconnect negative (black)
3. Disconnect positive (red)
Reconnect battery
1. Connect positive (red)
2. Connect negative (black)
3. Reinstall IDCM fuse F09

I wonder how many people who replaced the stock 12 volt with one that actually works did it this way. My 24 4xe Sahara had to be jumped last week with 309 miles on it and 4 days old. Dealer replaced the battery with another mopar. Next time it fails I’m replacing with a 3rd part battery and will remove this fuse first. Thanks.

Quick question, please. What if we disconnect battery without removing IDCM fuse?
In detail, the reason why I am asking is that I ordered Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (assuming same system as Wrangler 4xe) from USA to Europe, the logistic company disconnected battery before loading car to the ship. But when we opened container in destination port, car didn't start.
They usually disconnect car because of safety and in order to ensure car battery didn't drain our of energy as it takes about 2 months to arrive.
However, as I know assume source of the problem was not removing the fuse.
Anyway, as it already happened what can I do?
Just charging car by cable would be enough? Or does car's hybrid system needs repair now? Would IDCM system would suffer from that? How to check that? Any advise could help please. As detailed/long answer please to my particular situation please?

so to replace a battery, the same steps should be followed? OEM battery died last night, but recharged today and all functioning... except I do see the BATTERY ICON lit whenever I drive the vehicle. Appreciate this channel and any insight!

So if there is no alternator, what is keeping the 12 volt system alive once the large hybrid battery is drained. I assumed the 4xe still had an alternator to keep 12 volt and recharge large battery slowly.
Adding accessories such as a winch to your battery, you would remove the fuse makes sense. What does it say in the manual?
It’s not just the owner, but the technician who is installing the “accessories” who needs to know this and do it correctly.. in a time where everyone does everything quickly, i am sure the fuse, will be ignored.
How do you add extra lights Using extra switches
If I am connecting cables to the battery permanently to provide juice to my air compressor, do I pull the fuse and connect as suggested in the video?
Does it charge the 12v even when the car is off? If we had a fridge and didn’t drive for a day or two would the 12v discharge, or would the traction battery continually top it off?
It would discharge the 12 v battery but the IDCM would keep the battery charged up. That would be a good test.
@@BrandonHaneline can you confirm the IDCM does in fact continue to top off the 12 volt battery while ignition is off? Pretty interesting if it does.
Also keen to understand this. I recently went on a road trip and had my fridge/freezer plug into the permanent 12V in the rear of the Jeep, but daren't leave it plugged in overnight or even when stopped (thought it would quickly drain the battery). I did have a deep cycle battery with me to switch too, so it worked out ok, but i would love to know if it is possible to leave it plugged into the Jeep without causing any issues?

Thanks for all of these great videos. I picked up my 4xe just last month. It's so great, and I appreciate all the items you've covered - they really helped me decide to go with the Hybrid Wrangler.
I'm adding an LED Spare Tire 3rd Brake light - before even starting, I'm guessing I should do this, allow the capacitors to 'power down' (get all the way to 0v) and then install the additional brake light? (Then, once complete, re-connect everything.)
This video is inaccurate. It clearly states in the manual that when the hood is opened, the high voltage charging system is disabled. You can verify this by opening the hood while plugged in and it will stop charging. No car manufacturer would allow such an obvious liability where a person could get electrocuted by simply changing a battery.

Just bought a 2024Jeep 4xe. I know nothing. When plugged in does IDCM charge 12v from the plug or do the electrons first go to the hi V battery THEN to the dc-dc conveter, THEN to the 12v. I ask because if I connect accessories to the 12v, will the 12v keep drawing from the hi V battery whether plugged in or not, so I can run my accessories off of the 12v until the hi V is drained? Or maybe the hiV just trickles the 12v which is not enough to keep accessories powered? Jeep gives us a stepdown power cord with 4 120v plug in receptacles but it only works outside the Jeep. I want to know if i can power accessories off the hi v from inside the jeep, like a fridge or heater (17kW hrs)
im storing my jeep long term, is this the only battery I need to disconnect?
After doing this every time i start my 4xe i get a loud beep. the car starts like normal and there are no warning lights on the dash. Also my hybrid and offroad pages have disappeared (and a few others). Any advice?
Since it's only a 5amp fuse does that mean the idcm only charges the 12v system at 5 amps? Or is the idcm control circuit ran off of the 12v system and that control circuit needs 5amps?
The five amp fuse is only to power up the IDCM
Hello Sir ! My concern is When we disconnect the batteries , why dont we take out the whole plug coz I saw still same cables which connected to the each positive and negative side. Pls let me know .
Do you happen to know if F09 is a Micro 2 fuse type or something even weirder? I'm considering using a fuse tap and switch installed through the top of the box to mimic removing the fuse. I'm going to have the Rugged Ridge snorkel in the way of removing that cover, so I need a quick and easy way to disable the IDCM when disconnecting the 12v battery.

hi Brandon, just coming across your video now but after I've had the local shop install an alarm and the Genesis Dual Battery system. I'm pretty sure my 4xe was their first and I'm hoping they had removed the F09 fuse. If not, should I replace the F09 fuse to be safe? Also, I'm now going to try and install the Spod and roof lights to the rack, do I need to power down the 12v and remove the F09 fuse to be safe? Thanks and hope all is well!

Hey brother, I love your videos. I’ve had so many issues with the charging system. A month after having the IDCM replaced, and now my turtle light, got stranded and no movement whatsoever. I’m letting the dealer know what it could be, but I’m also concerned as to why it would have died overnight? Out of curiosity, what is the required battery CCA for replacement?
Got our 4xe today. Two problems already. Dash lights turn off in auto mode at night. Radio will not shut off after exiting the jeep and locking it up. Any suggestions?
Is this all the time or intermittent.
@Brandon Haneline I know you're planning on running this experiment, but your experiment on running the house, and your other experiment with the fully dead battery, sure do make it seem like the "engine" has to be "on" for the IDCM to provide any power back to the 12v lead-acid battery. In which case this fuse removal step doesn't seem necessary?
It’s just what the owner manual says. No one does it.
And yes the vehicle had to be in the ready position to charge the 12 volt battery.
Is that the prescribed method from jeep to disco the 12v battery? Of didya come up with that on your own?

Hi , i have jeep sahara 2021 , while traveling for more than 2 months and not use the jeep , how i can disconnect the battery from the system ? Is that possible without effecting or damaging the aux and the main battery ?
In your situation I would just disconnect the negative battery cable on the 12 V battery. This will disable all activity on electronics.
Is that will effect any components , like radio or saving records about the screen
Is the radio required a code to reactivate?
The radio may need the anti theft code if it’s that long. Not 100% sure though.

Folks, just read your owner’s manual, the section on storing your jeep. The manual says to disconnect negative battery cable. It DOES NOT say anything about removing fuses.
Your 4xe has a built-in safety feature that disables the circuitry when you open your hood. I know this because my jeep told me so via onscreen warning messages saying battery cannot be charged while hood is open.
I need to fix/weld the rear shock mounts and there are questions about the need to disconnect the IDCM (large orange cables and FO9 fuse?) as the arc welding could cause electronics issues. Has anyone welded on a 4xe without damaging the IDCM/battery?

The high voltage battery is lithium ion.
@@BrandonHaneline I'm referring to the 12 volt under hood battery. If it's not used to start the car a high amp battery isn't needed so wondering if they used a different kind of 12 volt battery than a traditional high amp battery.
Do you know if the IDCM charges the battery when plugged into 120/240? I've had a Ford Fusion PHEV and Chevy Volt, and neither kept the 12v battery charged when I'd leave it in my garage while out of town for weeks. So I had to install a separate 12v battery charger for them.
Yes it will keep the 12 V battery charged if it starts to go below 10.5

I thought that you should put the positive side on first before the negative side.
If you do there is a large arc when connecting.
Positive first when reconnecting a battery. Negative first when disconnecting.
