Haven’t used bd1n or nitro yet. Very informative, thankyou! Also appreciate you mentioning Erica and things you learn from her. Really liking your channel! 🤜🏼

Between the two I really like nitro v easier to sharpen and edge degradation is longer.

I actually like this steel. I only have 1 knife that uses it but I carry it the most.

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
by my experience in 2020 so far with para3lw , the fine edge dies so fast and cannot be stropped back. and in recent years, to those who are already familiar with the fine edge of tool steels like cruwear, it's just a disappointing steel.
on the other hand, good corrosion resistance may be the reason why chosen for kitchen knives.

In my experience not any improvement over the common VG10 Spyderco uses: poor edge retention and with just stropping the edge don't come back nearly as before. I guess it is just an entry level steel for those who don't need or don't want to pay more and are perfectly happy with AUS8 or 8Cr13MoV. Get a Spy27 version as a step up instead if you don´t need the standard CPM S30V.
Yes, being such a soft steel many will say it gets scary sharp easily but... for how long? Not enough at least for me.

This is one of my favorite general purpose EDC steels…specifically the way that Spyderco does it. It’s perfectly serviceable in the edge retention department…not crazy different from cruwear or 3v. Similarly, it’s very easy to get incredibly sharp and it takes a nice polish. A nice polish contrasted against the stonewash that Spyderco typically finishes it with is just incredible. I’ve taken mine as low as .1 micron and it looks unreal…

BD1N is only good for beater kitchen knives and for learning how to sharpen. IMO

Tests show it not far behind s30v what are you taking about? You thinking of cts bd1? The original gin1 copy? Ya that one is way outdated.
