    I absolutely love the Manix, so much so I own 16 of them. LW, G10 in all kinds of steel. Definitely one of my favorite user knives.

      Wow!! 16 of them! That’s amazing. I think I’m going to try another one out, probably in G10 this time. Thanks for watching!! 👍🏻🤙

    Glad they upgraded this to BD1N, the difference is fairly substantial.

      BD1N is more corrosion resistant that s30v. The trade off is that BD1N wont hold an edge as long as s30v

    Keep on reviewing that "older" gear, brother! This is one i was riding the fence on picking this up the other day. You just pushed me off that fence. Thanks for the amazing reviews!

    Once again great review. I have the all black manix 2 LW. It's my most carried spyderco. The weight and ergos do it for me, even more than my Pm2

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really? I’m about to buy a PM2 actually. It’ll be interesting to feel the difference. The ethos are good on the Manix for sure, really good handle design, just a tad too large for my taste but I totally see why it’s so popular. Thanks for watching my friend!!

    Just turned into a Manix junkie. This is the fourth one I have gotten. The feel and fit is perfect for me. I have three different ZT two other spiderco, but the Manix is the best fit for me. Thanks for the video 👍🏼

      Man! Agreed. I like my Benchmades for looking at statically. But in the hand WOW the spyderco s especially the manix 2 G-10 and my LW blue transparent are so designed for my hand grip. As perfect as it seems you could get.

    I have both the Manix 2 and the LW version. By far my favorite knife. I just bought two more LW for Christmas presents. Love the Manix 2 and that Ball Bearing Lock

  • @vancedyer755
    @vancedyer755 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got one of these 2 weeks ago. The action is very stiff but the blade (BD1N) is freak’n sharp as a razor. The action has loosened up a little, and I can now do the Spyder flick and reverse flick. The Lock is a bit tough to open but it can be opened and closed with one hand. If you are looking for a drop free action then get the G10 version with screws.

    Thanks mate really enjoying your style of reviewing. I not had bd1steel but believe it strops really well. I was going to by this knife but choose a bugout and in doing so i took out so my knives because its a hard act to follow, but i really still like its look. Atb paddy 👍😊☘️

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Paddy and for the kind words. I did take the knife to my stropping block twice and it tuned up the edge nicely. I think if you stropped it every other day you’d rarely have to resharpen. I did just get the Para 3 Lightweight which has BD1N steel (an upgraded BD1 as I understand) and I’m interested to test it further and see how it compares. As far as the Bugout, you made the right decision! I had some concerns with it at first but have come to really love it, and have since bought a second Bugout. Cheers mate!

    I love my manix 2 , it's the g10 with the I forget what type of steel lol 😂 I have owned it for years I use it at work , at home , everywhere. The ergonomics and grip is just absolutely phenomenal and it's as tough as nails. Even after owning it for years I am still so happy with everything about it and have never owned a more useful and beautiful knife . The action is still just like day one , the g 10 handle has smoothed over time but the grip is still more than adequate and it just fits my hand 👌 after owning this knife I became an instant Spyderco fanboy and will never even consider another brand for a working knife . The damn thing is just so perfect. The texture you mentioned is for me an absolute pro and has never been abrasive in my opinion , I suppose if you have sensitive hands it could be abrasive and I agree I wouldn't use this for cutting cardboard for 8 hours I'd use a cheap box cutter lol 😂 but for me it's been my constant companion for years and will continue to be the only knife in my pocket every day without fail my manix goes with me . I will be grabbing this exact version just because I love that dusk blue and will probably use it far less but I still just have to have it , the textured handle looks super grippy compared to my g10 version and that's something I just really love in a knife , more grip more better. The only thing I don't care for is the steel , this handle with a better steel is what I really want .

    I have two Manix 2 Original g-10 models and two LW models. One of the LW is this one and It's a decent knife. Very easy to sharpen too!
    My others are the s90V new Cutlery Shoppe exclusive I just received in a trade and the g-10 models are both different too. It's a great design!

    Great Review! I really like how this knife feels in the hand even more than pm2 or para3 but I only like the feel of the G10. Plastic never feels as good to my hand... Still a great knife and thanks for testing even though you didn't love carrying it so much. True reviewer. Cheers. :)

    Hitachi stopped making Gin 1. Spyderco’s first steel choice. Carpenter used Gin 1 recipe to bring it back to market at Sal’s request. But this time made in USA. Sal still stands by this steel as a balanced choice. BD1N replaced it. Nitrogen improved recipe.

    I don't own one personally. I've looked at them a thousand times but never bought one. Spyderco is always at the top of reviews and consumer favorites simply because they make a great product. While not as expensive as Benchmade, they are pricey in their own right and somewhat prohibitive to all. They do offer the Byrd line that does cover that gap. They are not a bad knife either but lack the fit and finish and better steels that Spyderco uses.

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Preach!! Yeah man, Spyderco makes a good product. Some not as great as others, and some certainly cost prohibitive for most. I’ve had some experience with the Byrd line and I think for the most part they’re fairly priced for what you’re getting, a budget Chinese knife with spotty quality control. My biggest beef with Spyderco is that they’re overcharging for their budget stuff like the Tenacious for example. In 2019 we shouldn’t have to pay close to $50 for a Chinese made knife with 8cr13mov steel and G10 handles (says the guy who has like 6 of them, LOL).

    • @Slithh
      @Slithh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GearedTowardGear1 Sorry, don't mean to rant. I could not agree with you more on Spyderco's budget price point. I love the Tenacious but yes, way too much for Chinese, G10 and 8CR13MOV. But, I had this knife illegally seized during a traffic stop and the cop literally used it for personal use then ran it over a brick a few times before I got it back and I was able to get it back to a highly useable/serviceable condition with little effort. Honestly I would own every Spyderco made if I could afford it. It's not their fault that I can't afford them lol.

      I'd highly recommend this knife, very good user, lightweight, excellent ergos and strong build despite the fact that some people think it's flimsy. It is anything but. Give it a shot. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

  • @TRPufnStuf
    @TRPufnStuf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    sharp looking blade. I wish I could afford Spyderco knives. A little outta my range. A friend of mine has a different spyderco and as soon as I held it I felt the quality in the weight of it. Do you buy the knives you review or get them free? You don't have to answer if that's too personal. I understand. I like your reviews. Keep it up.

    • @Slithh
      @Slithh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey TR! Thanks for watching my friend. My channel is completely self funded, especially with the knives. I just review what I purchase myself. No sponsors or freebies as far as knives go. I do occasionally get free flashlights to review but I typically just give them away (several will be given away in an upcoming giveaway video). My rule with anything I get for free is the company has to give me either an extra one to give away, or they have to provide a discount code for the viewers. If they won’t do that I simply say no thanks. I’m not interested in free stuff.
      I will say though thay pretty soon I will start getting some knives on loan through a group of other TH-cam channels to be reviewed. So I won’t pay for them, but after I test and review them they go back to the company, so no freebies - but it does give me an opportunity to get my hands on more knives to review.
      That’s a great recommendation from Slithh to check out the Byrd line from Spyderco. Much more friendly on the wallet. Cheers buddy!!

    I've got 2 lightweights. A SPY27 and a BD1N. In terms of action, I got my SPY27 to drop shut. The BD1N just doesn't want to. What's the difference between BD1 and BD1N? Which is better?

    Love the Manix 2 LW, but the width makes it a pocket hog, so it doesn't find its way into my pocket as much as many others. I've been spoiled by a Bugout and it's tough to go back to anything else.
