    They have the edge like that so if you're cutting cardboard you don't get stuck in the choil the whole blade is available to you

    I got a G10 S30V version and a REX 45 LW. Love them both but the LW feels better as an edc imo. I plan on putting the REX blade on a pair of GOAT scales I ordered. And using the S30v with the white LW scales as my work knife.

    When I started buying real knives my first purchase was a manix 2 lightweight. Then is started looking at alllllll the other brands and knifes out there but in the and after many years i realized my first real knife was actually the best of all for me and for edc. Wish I knew then would have saved me a lot of money 😅. But now I carry the manix 2 always together with the native 5 lightweight and I love them. I do love my TRM Shadow to but that’s a difficult knife to obtain so for the beginner out there don’t hesitate and just start with Spyderco and you’ll be fine for many many years. Cheers and thx for the excellent vids.

    Another disinterested ‘Spyderco knife’ guy here, due to esthetics, but for some reason it’s calling me hard in the past two weeks😅. About to grab a G10 Manix for 1st Spyderco & American company☝️

    You got the good lightweight version! Torx screws instead of rivets! It is such a wonderful knife. The xl is also great. Closing the blade can be cumbersome tho

    • @The_commonman
      @The_commonman  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, after using it for some time, i realize it’s a little bit awkward to disengage the lock

      There's never been a bad lightweight version. I've been rocking my OG lightweight in BD1 steel for the past ten years. People get too wrapped up in the rivets and cleaning the knife.

    • @tgonzalez1983
      @tgonzalez1983 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alexcole2078 some people like to customize their knives so it’s the better option. Maintaining your knife is never bad either. Nobody wants rusted parts or gunk in between

    • @alexcole2078
      @alexcole2078 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@tgonzalez1983 nobody customizes manix LW because of the rivet construction, I get it. But if you're getting a knife to customize you have the G10 variant. Keeping a rivet knife clean is easy, it just takes a different approach. Treat it like a firearm and wash the gunk away with solvents. Cleaning with solvents is generally easier than disassembling a knife anyways. Like I said, over 10 years with the OG BD1, and that BD1 steel isn't rusting unless you show it some serious neglect, that somewhat polished stonewash finish is to thank for that I believe.

    • @tgonzalez1983

      @@alexcole2078 can’t tighten loosened rivets either. Who knows? Maybe rust develops on the metal stop bar or whatever really. People like tinkering with their stuff & torx screws are way better

    Hey, I was watching and saw your comment on the lack of sharpening choil. Someone high up at SpyderCo said once that none of their knives will have sharpening choils because it's a point where something you're cutting can slip into (like rope), thus interrupting the cut. If you want a coil, you can find tutorials online to add one yourself, though kiss your warranty goodbye...

    • @The_commonman
      @The_commonman  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting, and it’s not a bad reason.. but yes for warranty reasons alone I don’t think I’d go that route. Thanks!

    Do anyone else habe bladewobble although the screws are tight ?

    • @The_commonman
      @The_commonman  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Checkout my disassembly and maintenance video, I show how I tune the knife toward the end. If you give the method I use a shot it may help. If all screws are tight and there’s still play, sometimes a scale could be shifted slightly, among other possibilities. Hopefully that helps out a bit! Mine occasionally develops play, but it’s easily removed with a slight turn of the pivot screw

    Now that the Manix has screwtogether construction, does anyone know if there are aftermarket scales??? I am gonna pick it up in hopes I can keep it lighter than the Manix 2 but with carbon fiber or some other scale material.
