Seeing these super obscure games get recognized by their loyal fanbase is always the most heartwarming thing.
Heartwarming is an understatement when you're a huge fan of said super obscure game. I'm in the LAL discord and it felt absolutely ECSTATIC for everyone (myself included obviously).

So, for those of you that know nothing of this game, here's a bit of a (non-spoiler) primer:
This is basically _Octopath Traveler_ before _Octopath Traveler._ You can play the first seven scenarios in any order, but you have to complete them in order to play the others.
Each scenario also has a different "feel" that makes them stand out from each other. To give you an example of a few scenarios: One of them gives you an option to not kill any human enemies, kill only some, or to kill everyone (which is why someone mentioned that this is _"Undertale_ before _Undertale");_ one is basically a boss rush where you learn enemy attacks; and another has no spoken dialogue, and has loads of comedic moments that would fit right in with _Looney Tunes_ and _Tom and Jerry._ I don't want to give away all of the surprise for those that haven't experienced it, but you'll be getting something new in each chapter.
In addition to that, each scenario's cast were designed by a different manga artist. Most of them are pretty obscure to Western audiences; the biggest ones are the "Twilight of Edo Japan" characters being designed by _Detective Conan's_ mangaka, Gosho Aoyama; and the "Near Future" cast being designed by Kazuhiko Shimamoto, who also was a character designer for _Mobile Fighter G Gundam._
The music was composed by Yoko Shimomura. As fantastic as her body of work is, I personally think that this is one of the best soundtracks that she's ever done. There are so many tracks that are catchy and memorable, to say nothing of the *phenomenal* boss tune.
Finally, the director is Takashi Tokita, who's far better known for the critically acclaimed _Chrono Trigger_ and original _Parasite Eve._ In fact, working on _Live A Live_ gave him the confidence he needed to make _Chrono Trigger._
Bottom line is this:
Did you love _Octopath Traveler?_ Play this game.
Are you a fan of _Chrono Trigger?_ Play this game.
Do you just love JRPGs in general? *Play. this. game.*
Basically, this game is an amazing feat on all fronts, and I'm super stoked that it's finally being brought West.
I mean, it'd be more accurate to say that Octopath Traveler and Live A Live were both derived from Romancing SaGa, it did the "pick one of eight protagonists" thing first, and it's something that's also in Romancing SaGa 3, SaGa Frontier, and Unlimited SaGa.
I do agree with you that Live A Live is great, though! My brother and I beat it recently to prepare for the remake and we had a fun time with it.

I know what is happening. Nintendo is testing our waters for something even more controversial... If they are, this is intelligent as this game has dark references.

Never heard of this game, but anything that makes a game more accessible is great for the fans. Especially since it never left Japan originally. As Mother 3 fan, I know how messed up it can be to find out a great game never left Japan. And I'm all for classics getting revived.
Someone cue the flying pigs, because I don't think anyone expected this game to get an international release, let alone a freakin' REMAKE.

This was such a big announcement in my opinion, I lost it when the A turned red. I was like “OMG NO WAY.” The reason why is maybe this opens the door for more Japanese only rpgs to be translated, released, and possibly remade in the HD-2D style. Or just more games in general, I don’t think anyone would complain about that, right?
Of course not! But I still feel like Trials of Mana was just the start of remaking a lot of their older Japan-only games.
Even before then, there was _Romancing SaGa 2_ and _3,_ and also _Radical Dreamers_ finally heading Westward. Not only that, but we also have the first two _Front Missions_ getting remade and localized. Basically, Square-Enix is *killing it* when it comes to remaking their older games, and bringing them to audiences that have never experienced them before.
(I would have gone further back with _Dragon Quest Ⅴ_ and _Ⅵ,_ but they also left _SaGa 2_ and _3_ in Japan, despite being pretty popular in the West. So, I consider _Romancing SaGa 2_ to be the start of that trend of being everything to everywhere ever.)
Who was the absolute headass that asked "Is this Octopath?" when the preceding headline said "A *Classic* Comes Alive"? LMAO
this is amazing cause if this game is succesful they can go either direction
A. interpret that people still love games not released out of japan and try with games like Boktai or finally bring mother 3
B. interpret that people love the HD2D remakes and do more, with Chrono Trigger and FF6 with a lot of posibilities

Didn't Itoi play the fan translation of Mother 3 and was so impressed that he basically deemed it a perfect localization?
Honestly I don't want the graphics in CT or FF6 to change. Remake them like how Radiant Historia was remade.
If they re-release Boktai, I can imagine them redesigning the "Sun" mechanic by automatically charging the battery if the system clock is in the Daytime hours.

When i saw the room with the punching bags. I immediately knew, This game is so awesome I'm so excited is finally getting released out of Japan as a remake. Definitely my top highlight from the direct.
Never heard of it but it looks absolutely fantastic, both in the HD 2D engine and the concept of the story. Definitely gonna check it out!

When I saw the Ninja Chapter shown, it was when I realized that it was Live-A-Live, and I said that someone should tell whoisthisgit that it was getting a remake.

So happy to know that many westerners recognize this title even it's an old game and have never been released in Western countries.
I have so much memories about this game since it's my first-ever played JRPG of all time , and will definite play the remake version!
Never played it, but heard nothing but good things about LIVE A LIVE (in particular, the first time I heard about it was someone saying Chrono Trigger was overrated, and the reason why it's so widely praised is because all the best/better JPRGs never left Japan, citing LIVE A LIVE as just one example of what they mean), plus everything I learn about it just makes it seem more incredible, to the point where I'm surprised this was a Super Famicom game, it's so ahead of it's time! To get the HD-2D treatment, let alone released outside of Japan, it feels so unreal, I love it!

I nearly SCREAMED when I saw this trailer. This was Octopath Traveller/SaGa Frontier before those games, and it is AMAZING.
Out of the "Mutliple leads, multiple stories all join up" genre of RPGs, Live A Live has to be one of the best. it was a shame the SNES version never left japan, but my god, seeing it in HD 2D was just pure eye candy.
And yes, Toby fox did make MEGALOVANIA in reference to MEGALOMANIA, from this.
I wasn't really interested in that game, but seeing all those reactions made me really want to play it XD
It inspired titles like Chrono Trigger, Octopath Traveler and Undertale. It's really good by itself too! One deep cut that deserves more attention.

I heard of this game through Toby Fox and let's just say, a game has not made me feel this way since Chrono Trigger when I played it in 2014
This game is Chrono Trigger's spiritual predecessor, so it makes sense.

I first heard about this game from Whoisthisgit. I became Interested and hoped to either play it via translated emulation, or remake.
