  • Shekhar Kapur directed 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age' (2007)
He was also the Co-Producer of 'Dil Se...' (1998)
For both these films Shekhar found Rahman’s music to be very complex and layered - yet simple to our
    emotional self.
He describes Rahman’s music as “harmonious like Mathematics."
Now that’s unusual. Did we hear him right!

Things to take away from AR RAHMAN.
    1. Constant learning and exploring in his field of interest.
    2. Utilising instruments for right tracks and right occasion (best example is by ashutosh gowariker in previous episode. Using Shenai in Swadesh)
Impressing western with flute or tabla is difficult rather with an electrical guitar. Rahman's music is compared as a net of instruments and vocals where any one with any background can be caught if not on fist hearing but over the period.
In short he knows the pulse of audience. Whatever the age/language/region/religion they are.
Some of music composed for situations like marriage in movies, I have read people writing comments like "I want to marry again and add this ARR track in my marriage album".
    See the impact.
A Person with background of Indian classical music enjoys ARR music in the same way as an wester person who shows interest in hip-hop or country style. Many TH-cam reactions videos proves the point.
And over the period, ARR himself revisits his own music in different way to audience on different stages like "Jai ho" concerts or and world tours gives new style.
One such example is "Dil se" with multiple renditions or Urvashi.
A decade long his playlist in my phone/laptop or anywhere left no genres. He can compose any sort of music.
One such example is tune for "Wold space radio". Classical tune to Spanish tune. Its mind blowing.
Imagine a ZERO knowledge in music person like me talking this much about the music, then how much some one with good understanding of the the music would be enjoying this series.
Thanks 02india, making me revisit such great tunes and tracks awaking some music sense with this series.

I thought of posting my comment out separately but it will be good if I reply everything I wanted to say here itself.
Firstly, your analysis was next to Mr. Shekhar Kapur's observations on Rahman in this episode. Thank you for your great words about Rahman.
So, instead of repeating I only add a few of mine insights pointwise:
      1. Mr. Shekhar Kapur has been so kind hearted to tell us so much about Arr that we don't know. Also, it was like a re-run of those Mani Ratnam episodes as he was largely talking about songs from Dilse, Bombay, Roja, etc. I felt his analysis of the same songs were even better than what Mani Ratnam ji could tell us.
      2. I liked the recreation of the Jiya Jale instrumentation in this episode than the singing part. Even in the original, Lataji sounded so fresh and young unlike her typical 90's renditions where her voice kind of screeched/dragged and sounded old in mostly Yashraj movie songs but it's never the case with Rahman. He just knows how best to extract from the singer and his recording of voices like the instruments was so another level and very ahead of other composers of that time and even today.
      3. I enjoyed everything what Shekarji said about Rahman. 💯% true and real. It was so heartful words and well articulated too. I wish they both had done a proper Indian film together!
      4. Music knowledge or not, his music will just open your 💖 and make you more curious to that extent that you may want to learn music and be his student. Today, it's no wonder his songs are used as case studies to teach students in his school. There can be nothing better than that!

Another fantastic episode. Sekhar Kapoor spoke whole heartedly about A R R. The smile from his face while describing about A R Rehman's talent proves he is speaking out from his heart. Such a fantastic director and Actor as well Sekhar Kapoor. Waiting for next episode.

ARR is a musician who knows how to capture emotions to the right extent, and under all the harmonious and complicated musical layers, the message conveyed is intact. One such song is Bhoomi Bhoomi.. the music changes according to the emotions and lyrics...

1:18 that really is a very deep point right there. Simplifying effectively is a very sophisticated process. Its like the iphone when it came out. So simple, any one could figure it out without any manual. The process of bringing about that simplicity has the solution of complexity and high sophistication behind the scenes.
