The 2015 4Runner Trail I'm buying will be our 3rd 4Runner. My truck is a '04 Tacoma V6 TRD X-cab, successor to my '93 DX bought almost new. Been driving Toyotas since I was 17..that's 35 years of punishment the vehicles have survived, and owner satisfaction. Will be selling my Lexus ISF for a RCF soon. I here the '16 Tacoma is all new as well. Too bad other makers don't build vehicles this durable, and stand behind them like Toyota does. As long as this is the case, Toyota will continue to get my money. :)

Pittyful.. that rig is capable of so much more.. You could have done that trail in a 2wd 4runner.
I'd like to see what Tom Krotchman would do in a 4runner when it breaks through ice on a pond.
It would be a nice touch if Toyota would have put a Lo Range button in the RAV4, especially the 2.5 in the new ones. Mine will go really good-plowing through 18" of snow in the 2007 V6 SPORT I had and over 20" in my 2010 V6 SPORT. The usual snows we get. Having that low range would surely help out when it's that deep. 1st gear is too slow and second is too much in the V6 for deep snow. They'll go good with the right tires.. I have a video that shows how to disable the TRAC Control in the third generation RAV4's that don't have the TRAC OFF button. It's a lifesaver.
Other than that the 4Runner is super nice!

its a locking differential not real differential locks toyota needs to put a real differential lock on their off roaders i will post this every time i hear someone make that huge mistake false advertising

+hrs4me30 Unless you're going to be rock crawling (at which point you should be asking yourself why you're buying a 4runner), why would you get rid of them? Sounds like you're just repeating the mindless drivel I see on most of the 4x4 videos on youtube.
+endocry HA! Who's assuming? Up here in the north all those damn running boards to is collect salt and snow, leading to rocker rust. At least when there are no running boards you can get that garbage off... I use my T4R the way it should be, you can keep your mall runner and your stepsides... So unless your rig is lifted 6" and you use it to go back and forth to church, I see no reason to have anything there to climb up on. But I'd assume you're a true rock crawler aren't you?
hrs4me30 I can tell you're angry. Just breath. I have no desire to build for rock crawling whatsoever. I do have a Jeep, but no running boards (sorry!). I don't know what assumptions you're talking about either. I'll say it again, unless you're building a rock crawler, running boards aren't a problem if someone wants them on their ride. Perhaps they might be where you're at with a lot of snow (and being too lazy to clean them off). I just see people like you in every video telling people how what they have is wrong and how you know everything. It's stupid.

My point is why would one spend 4-6k more on a trail edition T4R with all the goodies and then put a set of running boards on there. You lose clearance, they get in the way, and collect dirt regardless of how many times you wan to power wash her down.

I'm buying mine with running boards. I like the way 4runner looks with them on. Although I I saw plenty of cars with rusty running boards here in Chicago heheh I hope Toyota built ones are better, if not then I'll go for stainless...
Why would you need active track if you have locked the diffs? If locking the diffs means both wheels spin identically, why would you also want a pseudo limited slip diff watching for individual wheel spin/slip?
A-TRAC is electronic LSD for the front to prevent wheel slip

@ 4:33 "extreme" trail. Is he joking? Have these guys ever been on a real trail? I saw nothing in this video a 2WD pickup with an open rear diff could not handle.
Lame... my 2010 Rav4 could of done all that. I would know, I have really pushed my Rav through some tuff places.

I'm hoping you finally learned how to use the features that you should have used in the frozen pond! It would have helped you out greatly! You should have really known how to use this stuff before taking it off road and especially into a KNOWN frozen pond....... sheesh.

Yeah I seen that and laughed my butt off. These are great off road trucks and the last of a full frame which makes them the last of a dying breed.
Yea thats why I bought a 2015 Trail Premium! Everyman Driver Car Reviews are you planning on doing some real off roading now that you have tested out its capabilities? Lets see some low range crawls or mud bogs to see how far this thing can go! I think with some off road tires it would do great!

Thecherokee4x4 considering a RAV4 isn't built for offraod, stop grasping at straws. First of all you didn't argue with my comment, secondly, you only attacked my RAV4. That's funny since the RAV4 is a family car. I didn't buy it for off-road use. Now, if you wanna be technical, then fine, you can beat me off-road, that's a no brained genius lol. and that's it. Then I can be as silly as you and say, let's line them up at a red light. I'd love to see it. The only stock jeep you'd beat me in, is the SRT8. And if you've never broke anything offloading, you've never been or the trail was rated for a passenger cars. Anybody that has done true offroading has broken something-at some point.
