I just made my maiden car camping trip in my Suburban in the woods on our deer lease in about 25 degrees. Very much inspired by you Mav. Went great even with no heater running while I slept. Warm sleeping bags are amazing. Thanks for the videos!
As a Virginian, this episode was truly awesome to watch. I think you'd love taking a boat onto Smith Mountain Lake and maybe going camping on one of the islands.
As a fellow Virginian, SML sucks nowadays. Used to be fun but everyone is romping around on wake boats and cigarette boats or pontoons going 50mph with 30 people on them. Can’t even pull off in a cove and eat a sandwich without getting rocked all over the place. Maybe I’m just harsh but I literally had some drunk idiot hit my boat on SML and he was in a rental.. i yelled at him and said do you even know what you’re doing? And I shit you not he responded back and said no sir I don’t I’m sorry. Why are you even on a boat if you can’t operate it? I feel like Mav would enjoy the Chesapeake a lot more or down into the Rappahannock. A lot more mellow, wide open river and a lot of things to catch~ Stripers, cobia, red drum, stingrays, croaker, crabs etc.. but IMO sml went down the drain the minute they build those condos in bridgewater. The penhook side of sml isn’t as bad but it’s still like a college frat party on the water. Everyone acts like fools.
This probably won’t be the last video I watch in 2023 but it will definitely be the best and favorite one I get to enjoy. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication you put into your videos and into yourself. If you ever feel the inclination, Pennsylvania has some great sights to see and a ton of area for camping. Lot of rural areas as well. I like to travel the east coast a bunch and i think it's my favorite state to drive through. Everyone is real friendly and you meet alot of characters out there. I like to stay around the ELK state forest, it's beautiful. I have a bison overland so im not exactly truck camping but PA is a beautiful state.
Of all the unique vehicles you own, that one should be in your hands. The “Sherp” is world-renowned to be one of the best off-road vehicles ever made. Virtually go literally anywhere, unstoppable ATV. 😊

I thought for a minute that Food Lion had started randomly buiding in Minnesota like how Piggly Wiggly is in Wisconsin. Then I heard the Virginia. 😅Bi-Lo was bought out by Food Lion so you will find a lot in that area! And yes, especially Southwest VA gets cold in the winter. Not as cold as Minnesota, but southern Appalachia gets a little snow.

Hey Mav have you tried making Filipino style adobo? It is easy to make you just need any meat cut in cubes that you can simmer in soy sauce, white vinegar, garlic, and bay leaf. For meat you can use pork, chicken, beef, but if you're a vegan you can use veggies as well.
I'm not sure where to send it but he likes when people send him recipes to I think an email he has. He's said he especially likes one pot ones he's sent.

Try plastic worms in green pumpkin color for lakes and rivers located in Virginia. Once you spend that worm in a texas rig style type hook application, save it and hook it wacky rig style. Super Flukes work well too. Try those in green pumpkin and sometimes bumblegum pink. Not sure when you went out but jig and pigs work well during the colder months of the year.

O wow I did not know they used the Delhaize lion in the US as well! Looking it up, Food Lion was indeed bought by Delhaize in the 70’s, which means its now part of Ahold Delhaize after some mergers. As a Dutchie who also works at Albert Heijn (the company from which Ahold was born), I love seeing that kind of stuff haha
I’m in Virginia and Brunswick stew is a popular dish. A lot of the local fire departments will cook up a ginormous cast iron cauldron of it as a fundraiser and you can buy pints or quarts.. and they always sell out because it’s so good.

Very cool that you’re in my state! 20 miles South of Richmond here. Brunswick stew around here is usually cooked all night and stirred constantly into a thick paste.
I'm thinking a great route you should take is through the great state of West Virginia. I would start off in Beckley, visit the exhibition coal mine, maybe do some skiing at Winter Place and then see the New River Gorge Bridge. Next you can drive up to Charleston and see the state capitol complex. From there I would recommend driving to Flatwoods to visit with the Flatwoods Green Monster and his museum. Next and last pitstop would be Seneca Rocks, in the nearby town of Elkins there is an old hospital that was turned into a hotel (Elkins Inn & Suites), I believe it to be haunted when I stayed. You could always figure out another route to Point Pleasant to see the Moth man museum as well.

When you tied on a soft plastic after you said it was getting down in the twenties at night, my first thought was nope. I might have tried a suspending jerk bait. With the casting restrictions, a straight drop lure like a jig could have produced. Nice unique video.
I have one and I do all the same stuff..... I set it up so you could fish off the roof, put sheet metal on the roof so I can throw a solo stove up there, sleep on lakes n stuff on the summer, but winter..... ohhhh boy winter you can go out on ice thats too thin, break through and be totally fine and just keep going.... like lake of the woods when the middle hasn't frozen over bit you wanna go to other side, just roll right through the water to the other ice bank and it'll just jump right back onto the ice..... welcome to the club and have fun

Par usually means precooked to some extent. Probably needed to be finished in the oven to add crisp crust. Rice is par boiled sometimes.
