A lot of people will point to this to say that we’ve overreacted in response to the pandemic, but the truth is the most concerning part it how infectious the virus is. Even assuming a 1% death rate that’s still several times more deadly than the flu, and we have a vaccine for the flu. If we never put any quarantine or safety measures in place and continued life as usual, and let’s say 1/4 of the country caught it (which is absolutely feasible) we’d be looking at 820,000 deaths. In my state we’re actually adding MORE cases per day than we were two months ago and we have some of the strictest quarantine measures in the country.
1.1% IFR is incorrect and Vox pulled it out of their ***. The CDC itself now estimates the fatality rate to be somewhere around 0.4 % with 30% of cases asymptomatic.
Let's see where we are on Dec 31, 2020, what with the peaceful and legal protests even despite mask-wearing, police jailing legal and illegal actors, all of the protests and chaos that will inevitably happen whoever wins the presidential election, more businesses opening up. It’s been 1 month and this is already outdated
In 2021, we lost the ability to go see my Daughter come in 2nd in the State Championship meet for Cross Country . Her grandparents lost the ability to see her run and then my father passed away a few months later (natural causes) and will never get to see her run again . All because it was somehow too dangerous to attend an outdoor event where people can spread out and not be within 6 feet of one another .
I'm sorry you had to go through that. I remember outdoor running tracks being closed for months and months, even late into 2021. These were places where I'd never seen more than 50 people training, outdoors and apart. It was inhumane and humiliating
Which state do u live in?
No reason to shut down anything
1.1% IFR is incorrect and Vox pulled it out of their ***. The CDC itself now estimates the fatality rate to be somewhere around 0.4 % with 30% of cases asymptomatic.
TL;DR please understand these preliminary stats do NOT mean as much as you think. The CDC still encourages self isolation and social distancing
Let's see where we are on Dec 31, 2020, what with the peaceful and legal protests even despite mask-wearing, police jailing legal and illegal actors, all of the protests and chaos that will inevitably happen whoever wins the presidential election, more businesses opening up. Also, where I live, NO ONE practically speaking wears masks as they frolic in the big boxes. 06 07 2020.
I hope this pandemic is over soon as possible....
The current pandemic will end. Either because of a vaccine or other ways.....
The COVID-19 virus may be with us forever. Or it may evolve into something relatively "harmless".

There is a lot of space between "Fully-recovered" and "Dead", there seems to be lot of people who "survive" but have ongoing health problems. This is no "flu".
The disease destroys your lung cells. Depending on the severity of the disease, the permanent damage to your lungs can be very serious. Those who get intubated and survive (about 1 out of 2) will suffer serious damage to their lungs. I don't know how long it takes to fully recover, or if it's even possible. I know I've had a benign form of COVID-19. I coughed for about 3 weeks, and I felt my lungs weren't at full capacity for a month and a half. May 11th I lost my 99 year old WWII Marine Corps veteran grandfather, I called him Poppy. He was a milkman at his fathers company in his early days before being a Scouts Observer later on in the Marines. He needed up being wounded and became the recipient of a Purple Heart. My poppy got shot through and through both knees and was still up and talking and walking just 2 weeks before he passed. Don’t even get me started on the strength of his bear hugs. He would have been 100 years old July 24. He and other residents in his assisted living unit tested positive for Covid-19. He never showed a single sign other than no appetite, he actually tested negative before he passed but his body at that point was too weak to recover. I will miss my poppy for the rest of my life but I’m so blessed and grateful for the time I had with him and the wisdom he taught all of his children & grandchildren. Rest in Eternal Peace with Mommom now Poppy, I’ll see you again one day. I love you so much RIP ARMIT E HARRISON 7/24/1920-5/11/2020

I guess, they were kind of indecisive about the title ;)
You forgot to mention how the social situations can lead to more stress and other mental health issues which can lead to an increased death rate (aka indirectly due to the virus)
Yes!!! Stay focused on you. Stay off of social media in these uncertain times. Be happy 😊
That and the fact alot of people were scared of going to Hospitals due to the medias dishonest reporting and died from a condition medical treatment could have cured. Gee wonder how many of these excess deaths are due to that.... Also let's not forget humans don't like being cooped up for long periods of time and this cabin fever can lead to domestic violence...

@@faizanbashir5175 no its not. But by all means. Stay indoors until the vaccine comes out in a year. Enjoy bro :)
@@faizanbashir5175 Lol no. People focus on unreported deaths, I focus on unreported cases. I think 90% of cases go unreported, compared to like 50% of deaths, so doing the math, the COVID death rate is really around 1%, and around 3% in places with poor healthcare. Nowhere near the 10-15% some people are claiming.

@Raz Patnaik Virus reacts to host's body differently. So, symptoms of the disease differs from person to person. Corona Virus is no different. In USA the symptoms are different and in India its different. It is predominantly asymptomatic in India and was symptomatic in Italy and Spain.
The reason Why it spreading in India faster (as you said like 1000s and 1000s) is our habits. Spitting pan in public places could be a reason. Coughing and sneezing, even speaking loudly (culture) can spread this as this is a first ever air-borne disease.

You guys ignored how 3/4 of the people who have died from covid were overweight/obese and already had health issues.
