For those who may be wondering, boot camp is not that calm. I can promise you that. 2:25, that is AT1 Ovalle. She was my RDC, Div 320. She was calm when explaining something, but the moment you messed up what she clearly explained to you or if you misswrote one thing in her weapons log, then may God have mercy on your soul.
Understand this video only shows the "downtime" as you are getting close to graduation. The first half of boot camp is constant yelling. You got to earn the respect of your rdcs
Yeah, I seem to remember my RDCs being a lot louder, and, more... enthusiastic, let's say. If I ever said, "Okay, Chief" that quietly, I'd still be in the front leaning rest position!
I went through Great Lakes in June-August 1978. We weren't yelled at, a lot, for the first couple of days, but my Company Commanders didn't pur up with any nonsense. A couple of guys tried to go over the hill, the first night. It was A Good experience for me; it made a man out of me.Chief Regan and Petty Officer Coleman, where ever, you are, thanks. You made a difference , and thank you very much.
lol i was in boot camp for a month already when this video was made. depending on your RDCs they're not as nice as they were in this video. but after awhile they do ease up and are more approachable
TBH Yeah the RDC's can be hard asses and this video was very tame compared to how RDC's actually are. The RDC's I had were pretty cool unless we fucked up... Which was even worse because when we pissed them off we got our asses kicked extra hard.
understand that this was probably filmed towards the end of their bootcamp. the first few weeks are constant craziness. also, those shirt stacks were crappy lol
I went through in 1966. RTC was totally diferent. They rebuiltt the entire base since then. I stayed in Ww2 barracks called camp Barry for my in procssing. We also had to wear khaki coloref leggings.
The Navy like the Air Force have come a long ways since the days I went into boot camp in 1968. We lived in wood WWII barracks and had bunk beds to sleep on. We had a foot locker at the end of our bed and didn't walk in the middle of the floor for fear of having to clean and buff the floor again. It was the same when we went to tech school also and when I went back to Lackland AFB for recruiting school they had the new barracks which is old now and probably destroyed now and even newer complexes built there.
Awesome! My dad went through there in 1961, pre dating the campaign cover. He told me about the same barracks you stayed in and how they would have inspections and you’d see a foot locker sail right out the window.
I’m in this video and believe me when I say bootcamp is not like this. We were yelled before the video because we needed to behave and not fck things up. We were yelled after the video because we were trash and an embarrassment for our RDCs. I was constantly being dropped to do push-ups or IT for the stupidest reasons. This is not what bootcamp was 5yrs ago when they filmed this.
@@Vanderlay77 I was Division 200 1995. They sure don't make them line they use too. Remember always having a pair of dungarees that were broken in and very comfortable?
Some military terms not usually explained well ; 1. "gudtuhgo" = "Good to go" formally a tern used when checking troops before embarkation.2. "widguhdidguh" = Another way to say "With you, did you ?." A term used when a Training Instructor needs to find out if you followed instructions. So he would say, "Recruit, you didn't bring that swab and bucket widguhdidguh ?3. "dah-gone", when an instructor doesn't cuss, he says "da-gone" instead of god damn. 4. "gitchur" as in "gitchur ass over here."
They were company commanders when I went thru Orlando in 1992, and they would peel your face off when you screwed up. So neat how many behavior and discipline issues were fixed in boot camp.
Went to bootcamp at Glakes many moons ago....did absolutely no PT unless you messed up...then you went to Happy Hour where you ran around the inside of a gym with your rifle over your head.. ahh fond memories.
This is a pilot for recruiting for the Navy. Of course they aren't going to show RDC's going crazy on recruits. This is not what boot camp is trust me. The second class is actually one of the top RDC's on this base at this point
Went Jan 23, 2002. That place sure has changed. When I was there there was a lot of construction goin' on for the newer Navy. The OG Barracks were the shit though LOL
Most chill RDCs ever. No one in the division sounded off, they talked in the height line, they weren't sitting at attention and their racks were unsat as fuck
Recruits who hold leadership positions within the division are given temporary, e-4 and above, metal collar devices to pin to their blue, digital camo Navy Working Uniforms to represent their position within the division. Outside of boot camp, metal collar devices are never worn with NWU's, and it is not possible for a recruit to be above e-3 while in boot camp. Recruits can be meritoriously advanced to e-3 while there, but must spend 6 months as an e-3 to be eligible for e-4
My memories of RTC, Great Lakes are A LOT different! We did not get all the touchy-feely, hand holding. Chief Smith loved to "make it rain". Turn the heat WAY up in the compartment, make us put on our heavy jackets, and, then, he'd PT the living shit out of us!
Some of them are recruits. Recruits would be given special assignments at RTC, which granted them authorization to wear the Petty Officer's Crow. Not sure how long they've done that at RTC, but I know they've been doing it well before I enlisted back in 2007.

co-ed boot camp? The Navy sure has changed from when I was in. Women always had it easier in the Navy. They got all the shore duty stations because women weren't allowed on ships. While guys would have to give an extra 2 years to get the same shore duty going from ship to shore.
Sneakers? They run recruits in sneakers these days? And what are the backpacks for? And where are the weapons? Is doing the manual of arms lost to history? Things have changed in the last 40 years.
Clell Harmon From what I have ever learned from videos, the sneakers are for exercise, while the recruits do sometimes train in their boots. The backpacks, I'm not very sure. Then the recruits don't just have firearms right by their bunk. They do still practice shooting techniques and safety precautions while holding a firearm. Thank you for your service.
JeeprzCreepers56 No foolin you. Seeing how my comment is under this video. Id say yes. Yes i did gather this off of THIS 4 min. video. That's rather intelligent, that you had enough foresight to not come to the conclusion that, my comment was directed for another video. Congrats!
Neil Tipton Boot camp wasn't too bad, but it was WAYYY harsher than this. RDCs toned it down a lot for the cameras. there was a lot more yelling and cussing and dropping in the real thing

This isn't "close to graduation", this is P-Days, before training actually begins...
P days you wear PT gear, the second week is when you wear the NWUs
this isnt p-days either.
This is probally for the static inspection, around week 5-2

Just graduated on April 1st 2016, currently in A school :D
Congrats!
How bad was rtc??, I leave on monday
Did you reenlist ?
My son he's just graduated 07/13/18
And yes the last 3 weeks was hard.
Just left there 23Jan16 now training at A-school for Steel working.

+Bridget Bosch how did you take the video I thought phones weren't allowed
I think they have people come in to film them.

I went in 1990 Company 179 San Diego Ca. I everyday they were yelling from the P-Days till Graduation..things really changed I guess.
why did some of the recruits have rank insignias on uniforms while in boot camp.
They're in leadership positions, such as the RPOC, AROC, Yeoman or MA
They were company commanders when I went thru Orlando in 1992, and they would peel your face off when you screwed up. So neat how many behavior and discipline issues were fixed in boot camp.
Chief Chastine was our brother divs 1st RDC😲I graduated June 23 2017! And that other female RDC PO checking the garment bags is a FIT RDC

You know they actually stopped giving recruits rifles. I was slightly disappointed in that when I went back in 2007.

How did some of the recruits earn E-4 while at boot camp? I thought E-3 was the highest rank you can enlist as.

Recruits can be meritoriously advanced to e-3 while there, but must spend 6 months as an e-3 to be eligible for e-4
Also technically you might be paid as an E-2 or E-3 in basic you are treated as a Seaman Recruit Not Apprentice or Seaman.
HEYYYYYYYYYYYYY when did they change the uniforms????????
They do it every few years.
yeah the navy is always messing around with uniforms.

In 2003 we had a few that would wear chevrons due to division rank, 1 actually wore a chiefs ancor. Was called RPOC.
Do they put the men and women together during boot camp??
There are some integrated divisions but males and females sleep separated
I seen that Petty Officer at 1:42 everyday while in THU 😂
You don't realize how much boot camp sucks until you get out of it.
Dane Kunes it’s not that bad
Honestly no offenses, but the integrated divisions were a joke they were absolutely softer and more of a joke. I was in an all male division in ship 14. Hell one of em even mentioned stress cards, which were not anywhere present in my ship.
I am former army getting back into the navy, is this really how RTC is, man what a cake walk this is going to be!
Youre Army going Navy and have to go to boot camp? One of my buddies is former Army and the Navy didnt make him go to boot camp at all.
David Johnson the Navy made me and 2 other Army OSVET recruits go to basic and stuck in us regular division but 900. it was easy though.
The recruits in the end are UNSAT. Are they supposed to have backpacks or not? Are they supposed to have their training guides or not? we would have gotten screamed at for the kind of non-uniformity.

Does everyone get the blue camo or only certain jobs?
Everyone. This is just basic training. You get trained in your job directly after it.
The only other rates that do not wear blue navy working uniforms are Corpsman embedded with Marines and Seabees (combat engineers)
SB's and SO's (SWCC and SEAL) don't wear blue camo.
They only wear green.
+wisdeerman and MA's depending on where you are. There are multiple rates that wear type III. It just depends where your command is.
Blueberries are getting discontinued, everyone will be issued type 3s by late next year.

Just like everyone has said
It’s all for the cameras
My chief did the same thing
Little dude, but mean as hell 😂

This must be a new thing. We did not have Coffin Lockers in Boot Camp. The first time I had a Coffin Locker was when I was deployed. Strange.
They try making it more like a ship, which is why galleys are in the "ship", PT is also held indoors at the gym, things of that nature. The coffin locker makes sense, so they can learn to stow their uniforms properly.
I wish am in us navy
God bless America
This is why the Navy is having so many issues. Look at this lmao. Do they get a teddy bear for their rack too?
be there in a couple weeks 20160406

Wow!!! Camp Snoopy is rougher then this shit! One of my RDC's would come in drunk all the time and throw shit around and cuss at us and loved to make it rain!! This shit is S.W.A.F.T SWWWWAAAAFT AS SHIT!!
Camouflage in the Navy, I don't get it or like it!
co-ed boot camp? The Navy sure has changed from
when I was in. Women always had it easier in the Navy.
They got all the shore duty stations because women
weren't allowed on ships. While guys would have to give
an extra 2 years to get the same shore duty going from
ship to shore.
You gotta be kidding me, PULL THAT SHIT OUT AND THROW IT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM!!!!! What the fuck happened to boot camp????
Sneakers? They run recruits in sneakers these days? And what are the backpacks for?
And where are the weapons? Is doing the manual of arms lost to history? Things have changed in the last 40 years.
Brian Waller What does that have to do with what I said?
Clell Harmon From what I have ever learned from videos, the sneakers are for exercise, while the recruits do sometimes train in their boots. The backpacks, I'm not very sure. Then the recruits don't just have firearms right by their bunk. They do still practice shooting techniques and safety precautions while holding a firearm. Thank you for your service.
WOW boot camp got so soft.
WOW you gathered this off a 4 minute video?
JeeprzCreepers56 No foolin you. Seeing how my comment is under this video. Id say yes. Yes i did gather this off of THIS 4 min. video. That's rather intelligent, that you had enough foresight to not come to the conclusion that, my comment was directed for another video. Congrats!
Neil Tipton Boot camp wasn't too bad, but it was WAYYY harsher than this. RDCs toned it down a lot for the cameras. there was a lot more yelling and cussing and dropping in the real thing
This is just softened down for the cameras lol
Borna Vaezi mostly because they are near graduation
NO FUCKING WAY IS THAT CHEIF CHASTINE WHOLE FUCK WOW I THOUGHT I WULD NEVER SEE HER AGAIN SHE WAS MY RDC
where is all the yelling and screaming and .. oh wait, navy
TheDoug2103 it’s never this calm.
Should be allot more strict. Looked very weak. I did army and navy boot camp. We are a powerful navy let’s make our young recruits navy strong.
Aye that girl is in my division now !!! Hahah
Why is no one getting dropped? Why arent the recruits being sworn at up and down? WTF kind of bootcamp is this?
I prefer Boot Camp in Club Diego. No BYTCHES.
Chief Chastine! 😂
I think type 3 N Dubz are better lol
Fastrada I like em both, can’t really say I have a favorite
Real Navy RDC/Drill instructors will yell and Drop you in a heart beat! 8 counts push ups. these videos is not acceptable.
Where's the screaming and cussing? Lmfao
Not sure. I'm sure they were either looking nice in front of the camera, or he have been in to the point the RDCs started easing up on them.
