Once you have tried Hilleberg , nothing else will do !
Well filmed. Particularly liked the shot of the deer.

I like the way you take time to look at the detail of the environment you're in, and to stop for a while and appreciate what you are not really part of. Great stuff as always :)

Thanks Ian. It's a privilege to camp in such remote places. I didn't see another human footprint in days. It wasn't far from a town, but so quiet. Steve.

This is wonderful. Growing up in the Virginia Highlands and backpacking the Appalachian Trail is only fueling my desire to come to Scotland and hike the hills and valleys I feel like I was born to see. Thank you for this.

Thank you so much for making this.
The spot where you start filming this video is directly in front of my childhood home. I lived in Mallaig Vaig to the age of ten years old after which my family moved to the Netherlands. Just watching this video brought tears to my eyes. It brought back so many childhood memories and made me realize how much I truly miss that place.
Some of the photo's in this video are absolutely beautiful! and inspiring!!

Great trip mate and a fabulous place. Haven't been up that way myself for a long time, the early ninties was the last. When you live down here in the south of England its not very easy to get there, a long old hard journey, and quite expensive, one day again though. Thanks mate, a good film.

Stunning footage of so many places that I know. I spend about a month in Scotland every year. I thought your choice of campsites was pretty good, on a low brae which gets a bit of breeze to blow away the midges. Often, abandoned townships make good camping grounds as even if nobody has lived there for a couple of hundred years there is often a patch of level and well-drained grass grazed short by the sheep which is a good place to park your tent on.

Fantastic scenery in Scotland, plus a good amount of wildlife. I noticed the sundew plant one that I haven't been fortunate to see for myself, though it is said to grow around here somewhere. You were lucky not to be troubled by midges, but perhaps it depends on the time of the year since I wasn't bothered by them on my visit either. I'm pleased that you saw some very interesting plants and animals, including the white tailed eagle. Take care, Steve...

you got the usual Scottish treatment except the midges.. ..that's a real nice location you picked, looks really peaceful, not a lot of folk around. Great photography, I could learn some things. but hauling a tripod? mmmm...
adventure food, yup a bit bland. it is Dutch after all.
I would like to walk the douaniers path in Brittannië one time. a similar landscape. but I would have to change a lot of kit and buy a good tent for that adventure. Cheers and thanks or the effort taken in making this movie!

    • @craftywildcamps
      @craftywildcamps  8 ปีที่แล้ว

I think being by the coast helped with the mosquitos. The tripod is heavy, I could do with a lighter one for long walks. They are good for getting that steady shot, but it all depends on your style of video. Cheers, Steve.

A 'true' wild camper. A man (or woman) can truly get away and take time to reflect, up there. Midge repellent is crucial, there. I reckon, knowing Scottish weather, as I do...the optimal time for good weather, is mid July, to late August. I agree. V nice camera-work.

I drove out to Mallaig four days ago from Fort William. Great to escape that awful ripoff town. Had a few pints in the main pub. Good laugh with the locals and the amazing variety of tourists from all over the world. The car park by the police station over looking the sea is free and apparently you can stay as long as you like. No petty rules.

That's a great video thank you. All good, but Sunrise on Day Four was just sublime.
Don't walk North from Mallaig though (#1:30) - you'll get extremely wet!!

Hi CF, great video. I love the peace and tranquility of it. The panoramas and the zooms. Gives you a great idea of what hiking is. Love the absence of a 'hipster drone and happy jump' scenes. Raw and beautiful. What time did you go? My gf and I went to the Cairngorms half May and it was perfect, no midgies and only 3 out of 10 days rainy-ish.
    Cheers Barry

I went in September 2016, good weather and no flies, I think being by the coast with that steady breeze helped. I think drone shots can help if used to tell a story, but I'm like you, they can be used too much for no reason. The landscape speaks for itself. Thanks for watching, Steve.

Hi Brett, sorry for the late response. The Trousers are by Fjallraven and the Jacket is a North Face down jacket. Thanks for watching, Steve.

Another great vid Steve. Wished I was there. What tent did you use?

Hi David. The tent is a Hilleberg Akto, it's lightweight, not as lightweight as a tarp and bivvy, but good for when it's raining or midges about. Thanks for watching, Steve.
