    Thank you thank you thank you . I’ve seen almost all of your vids and at the moment I’m out in California fighting a wild fire and some days have quite a few hours of staging time (waiting around) for orders or a mission to go on . And by luck I have cell service. And have been binge watching all your video for the second time . Every time I come across this knife I fall in love even over some more beautifully made knives . I just can’t get enough of this knife . Thank you so much . Maybe one day I will have the pleasure of getting one . Maybe

    Thank you for your review. I contacted Pete about a build, after watching and listening to your thoughts. I've been researching overbuilt knives, all weekend. I was going to buy a Greyman Satu; but they were sold out. That led me to the MKT Praetorian; but they, too, were sold out, in the style I wanted. Sometimes, things happen for a reason. Now, I'm one email away from purchasing a Rogue Shark. Keep up the good work!

    btw jim the price of the first run thru the books was only 650 total. luckily enough i was stalking skikes ig page everyday waiting for my opportunity to snag one of these at my earliest opportunity. the videos that theyve been posting on ig lately have shown an action that was impressive to me at the size of the knife. i wouldnt have known about this maker without you and your channel (yet again) and i wanted you to know that i appreciate it and everything you do for the knife community. cheers.

    Before I seen this video, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a "High End Knife Market." Glad TH-cam threw it in my list; this is some seriously cool stuff.
    I gotta say, I've never seen a knife that said "Don't F with this person" before, either. LoL. That knife means business. Time to go look at the price...

    Sorry Jim, I beg to differ. My Rogue Shark is ridiculously sharp. Despite its thick spine, I can do some fine cutting tasks due to it unique grind. I can cut ribbons of paper, fine food prep, and of course I can cut through harder materials like wood. And it can still keep going, thanks to its 3v steel. This is probably the sharpest knife I have. Sharper than my Microtech DOC, Ferko Mako, and Reate Horizon CF. Love your knife btw.

    • @JimSkeltonKnives
      @JimSkeltonKnives  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I did actually say that it was very sharp. However the thick edge will make it tricky for certain cutting tasks.

    The reason I like my Solo v5 is its "overbuilt" but its still a great cutter because of how lean its ground. I have the wharnie version and its mostly 0.012 thick behind the edge, about half as thin as most spydercos are and those are considered great cutters and while they are, Direware cuts much better. It does thicken at the tip to about 0.020 which is good since you want a lil more thickness at the tip but most of the edge is nice and thin and very sharp too(no easy task with s110v), its the only knife I ever got that I didn't feel like I needed to touch up the edge to make it sharper. It had good push cutting and slicing ability to it as well which is something I don't see in a lot of knives, you seem to get one or the other but rarely both. im very satisfied with what Direware was able to achieve in the version 5 of his solo, you get a "overbuilt" knife(id argue that a framelock is the weak point of the overbuilt craze and you'd want to use a stronger lock but thats a different topic) with great action and fit and finish snd it still performs great as a knife instead of a sharpened prybar lime some others seem to be.

      I don't mention Demko because I don't own one, nor have I handled one. No interest really, don't want a lockback (mid-lockback or Triad Lock, etc)

    • @Capolan
      @Capolan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the only lockback I've ever wanted as I'm not a fan of them myself. I had Andrew put bearings in mine. I only bring it up because you have some great knives and some very over built ones, but one that many say is the strongest of the strong - Demko AD10 - that one isn't your roster. I will say, the AD10 is a pure utility design - pretty plain - but...you also can hang 900 lbs off the end of it if you so chose...

    Let coldsteel compare this “overbuilt” knife to the 4Max!! In the testin they do this knife would fail, it is a really badass knife, very thick, but Coldsteel’s Triad lock is beast!! This custom knife only has a frame lock.... Great video though

    I have one and carry it all the time. Medford’s got nothing on it. My third favorite overbuilt knife, after the Direware and Toxic Field Cleaver. Although there are pants that just won’t hold the damn thing up it’s so heavy. I also have a Weiland Fatty Slash that I carry... now that is dumb as hell, but boy is it fun to have that bulge in my pocket :)

      +Real Outdoors Most custom knife makers do not go below the $500 mark, then with the cost of the machines and such their labor rate would be abysmal. And being a teenager is no excuse I bought my first $1000+ knife when I was 19 going to college full time and being a manager at a local restaurant there is no excuse!

    I quit carrying some of my knives that were expensive as a EDC. Main reason on this is due to prior incidents that occured where several of my expensive knives (one had customized silver knuckles on the handle of the fixed blade) got confiscated by the officers who were called to the scene. Not only did those knives get confiscated, it came with hefty fine for carrying such knives along with other repercussions that followed suit due to the incident).

    Why dont knife creaters add a glass-breakers to their designs? Is it impractical? or do they make knifes for astetetic looks only?

    • @jamiedean5106
      @jamiedean5106 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bbullock41617 To my knowledge, glass breakers are heavy on a knife, so if the blade is light and the handle is heavy the glass breaker will be impractical, however if it is blade heavy and the handle is light it will most likely to have a glass breaker... Also, if you're looking at tactical knives, all of them will have serrated, seatbelt cutter and a glass breaker on them. Some of these custom knives aren't designed to be like that :)
      Hoped this helped

  • @BigThumpr1
    @BigThumpr1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love my Rogue Shark. Mine has rounded off bottom sides on the handle scales. It's really comfortable. Mine is on Bronze washers as well. I don't think the flipping problem has to do with the size of the blade, but the location of the flipper tab in relation with the pivot. If the flipper tab was more forward of the pivot there would be enough action to get that blade flipping fully open. And mine push cuts paper all day long. It cuts so nice for being such a thick blade.

  • @Toki52
    @Toki52 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    That back pivot would be nice if it was the clip screw.

  • @dankbuds6171
    @dankbuds6171 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool looking knife,I love the design looks and materials some of these custom knife makers come up with. But frame locks all need a cut out on the lock bar to relieve pressure and that cut out is the weak link of the whole lock system. Under hard use,the lock bar being only on one side makes it either a left or right hand dedicated knife and that specific side takes up all the forces and is not optimumly distributed. I love a lot of these custom knives but couldn't buy them due to most being a frame lock. Sure these things will most likely stand up to any day to day tasks but when a situation calls for a tougher job it's good to know your expensive folder can withstand the abuse. I guess I'm an Andrew Demko and tri-ad fan boi but it's for a good reason. AD10 best custom knife in my opionion no matter price.

      +Jim Skelton No problem, Jim :)
      Always liked Emerson design and ergonomics, but I just can't like them enough to own one with all of the problems they have for me.
      Bad fit an finish, a steel that needs to be sharpened every 10 minutes, and wonky edge geometry are not my favorite features on a knife.
      But, they are so good in the hand and the wave is awesome.
      Anyway, I love what was done with the edge on this knife, because it's the good parts of Emerson's grinds with a better steel and improved for actual use...of course, that edge thickness ain't doin a whole lot of slicing anyway ;)

      NathanRyan 5533 um, no... not sure a heavy custom collector knife is ideal for a bugout kit, but if you are trying to build an elegant bugout kit, then why not (i guess).

    I kind of have a medford mentality with these kinds of knives. I'd rather the phosphor bronze washers with this one than bearings. Don't needa be all gay and flippy with EVERYTHING. Perfect the way it is IMO. Love it!

    If there were ever a knife id throw down this kind of cash for, this is definitely one of them. Wish i could tell myself i need it like i can get away with car parts. Could probably chuck this thing at someone and knock em out cold.

    It's hilarious that a $1300 custom knife has a horrible action, ridiculous lock bar tension and is uncomfortable to use and carry. For $1300 these kinks should have been worked out before sale

    Id say theyre not too out there because the people who will drop above $200 on a knife are a small percentage.

    This is exactly why I don't see myself ever spending that kind of money on a knife. 650$ for something that isn't even comfortable enough to use and apparently doesn't even work as its supposed to... If a knife is designed and marketed as a "flipper" and it cant even "flip" then something is very wrong.
