2003-2009 Lexus Gx470/Toyota 4 Runner Air Spring DIY

  • My air spring/air bags are finally leaking on my 2003 Lexus GX470 (similar to Toyota 4Runner I assume). This video is how I replaced them with OEM from eBay. The rubber on the air bag will eventually become brittle and crack and cause air leak and should be replaced. Mine lasted almost 20 years, probably because I'm in CA and not in region with super cold freezing winter temps.

    Thanks for your video as everyone else pulled the bags for conventional springs. 2007 4Runner with ride high control which automatically includes Xreas

    Glad to see you are still wrenching, even if it's not the 997. Hope all is well.

      Thanks Jeremy - it's been a while, how have you been? anything new with your 997tt?

      Not a whole lot, which I suppose is a good thing. Just adding fuel and enjoying the ride.

      @@itzjere Glad to hear, I thought you may have move on to another toy car by now. Seems prices on these and similar cars have gone up recently. Let me know when you want to go to Sac Raceway before they close down, maybe when the weather cools down.

    thanks for the detailed push in, and circled photos.... im having the same issue w my 04' gx sometimes i rides bouncy if i let it rise on its own the ride aint bad... any ideas or solutions? greatly appreciate any words of advice

      Could be a number of reasons why it's bouncy but would start by checking if air bag has a leak somewhere or if it hasn't been replaced, I'm sure the rubber has rotted by now. The system has several components like air compressor and sensors so you need to isolate/troubleshoot.

    Great video my friend! Can I ask if you had to replace your compressor or air valve? I have a 2012 GX460 and just replaced the OEM rear mechanical shocks recently and now have to replace the air shocks. The ride is like a jack hammer still in rear.

      @atm4jim  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, haven't needed to replace them, though I've read they do eventually wear out especially if you have a leak and the compressor is always running. My ride was like a jack hammer because the suspension was sitting at the bottom and thus no suspension travel due to air spring leak due to rubber's age. Thanks.

      @atm4jim Thank You! Looks like I have to replace air shocks like you did then.

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very possible, hard to say without testing for leaks or looking at the bladder for rubber rot/cracks.
