That's a quote from someone who's been forgiven by death and given another chance. I took away the same lesson after I almost died on my first week working with mud; a cart full of dirt and stones fell on top of me, almost broke my skull and could have left my left arm paralyzed but none of that happened, I managed to go back home, limping, and realized that my job wouldn't have cared if I died or not, nothing was gonna stop for me. I watched Bear on Man Vs. Wild when I was in high school. I read his book about scaling Mt. Everest too. I looked up to this man when I was growing up. I'm glad to see him here and I'm happy to see that he's still doing well.

I saw Bear Grylls maybe a month ago with his wife in Starbucks. He came in and instantly a guy with a “help for hero’s” shirt on spotted him and asked for a photo, and even though it looked like Bear was in a bit of a rush he couldn’t have been more gracious and had a little chat with everyone that asked for a photo before heading back to the most Bear Grylls car you can imagine, a slightly muddy Land Rover. Really is as kind and as humble as he comes across in this interview, in real life.

Spent 3 years street homeless in my early 20's. Watching Bear growing up gave me so many skills to perfect and survive such a lonely experience. In the last year I actually got a tent in the woods outside of town and I was so comfortable with my survival skills due to this legends lessons that I actually became comfortable enough to give myself hope again, started making friends, bringing them camping and showing the beauty of the outdoors. That hope & confidence only started because of Bears lessons, giving me the opportunity to bring myself back from such a low point. Bear seems like such a warm, genuine soul. I watched him with my dad growing up on tv and have always been a fan but I think this may be the first time I saw him so candid.
I grew up watching Man vs Wild with my father and always felt like it was the main way that we bonded. My Father had suffered from a few strokes when I was younger and sadly past away when I was 16. Today I'm 26 and this interview reminded me of how I always looked up to Bear Grylls in a way and I forgot about the happiness he would bring my dad. I just feel like I can't say nothing more but other than thank you... thank you for helping me remember those memories that I had locked away during those hard times and now they can help me to keep moving forward either if it's at home or exploring the wild with my Father's spirit along with me.
I do hope that your father was a step dad or adopted father though. You do not deserve to know that there may be a few genetically inherited strokes coming up on you in your future.
I have been binge watchcing this show for two days and am really impressed by how the interviews are researched and presented to the guests in such a happy handed way. Watching each individual guest having natural reactions helps them seem so much more relatable. The format and hard work put in shows in every episode I've seen so far. Thank you for the hard work everyone puts in. This is now my favorite show!
In June of 2009 I watched the Will Ferrell episode with my father, little did I know it would be the last piece of media we would ever watch together. Three weeks later we lost a great man in a vehicle accident. Thank you for bringing this up and mentioning how grateful we should all be to be alive. Cheers
Thank you for sharing. Your Dad sounds like he was your beacon and rock, your heart and your home. I can't imagine how tough that must have been but if you carry his best inside you, the world sees the work and love of a wonderful man.
I love Bear Grylls. When I started working for a cable company I had to climb telephone poles, but ai was afraid of heights. I watched Bear all of the time, and he admitted that he is also afraid of heights, but the key is to keep calm, trust your safety gear, and push through it. With that in mind I was able to push on, and suppress the fear! He really is an inspiring person. Great to see a long form interview with him battling through it the while way!

@@Mike_Dubayou Man Vs Wild was just a drama. He never slept in the shelters he made. He never actually ate the food he ate outside of the one-bite stunts. He slept in hotels nearby, or large comfortable tents where he had hot meals and snack breaks from shooting. This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!

I never rlly gave it much thought but after watching this with a dumb grin on my face, I realized Bear was one of my unsung childhood heroes. He taught me to be adventurous, brave, open to new experiences and ideas, and humble among other things. I find myself binging man vs. wild every so often just for the nostalgia and adventure. It hurts a little seeing him age but it brings me joy seeing how content and down to earth he seems to be with his life.

When I found out about how some aspects of his shows were staged, I never felt slighted nor felt angry. Because thats not what I watching for, that’s not what I took away.
