    Not just a beginner bike. I own a 2019 R3 and I've been riding for 28 years, it's a fantastic bike for the twisty Mt roads and a great bike to hone your skills on. A good rider can keep up with the big bikes on the right roads. I have had over 30 motorcycles including Ducatis currently in my garage I have a R3 and a wr250x love the small displacement bikes so much fun and it's fun leaving the big bikes behind when your on a small bike. And yes the R3 can bang wheelies have to stand it up in first but once at the balance point can keep the bike up even at 60mph

      @goodolbiker 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@mrobinson8686 absolutely a great first bike. And as far as out growing it goes yeah it's not the fastest thing out there but that's not the end all be all most important thing about a motorcycle the most important thing is that it is fun and puts a smile on your face and it definitely does that. It doesn't have many limitations you can go do a 400 mile ride and enjoy all of it. Like the saying goes. Its funner to ride a slow bike fast then it is to ride a fast bike slow.

    If you want a 2020 r3 just go buy a 2019. I own one and it’s exactly the same as the new one. ( I mean exactly the same ) There is nothing new that has been added to any of it. Not even the fairings! It is the same bike head to toe but you can get a 2019 for cheaper. The R3’s are one of the most fun bikes to ride, just don’t waste your money if you don’t have to. Engine wise, Yamaha hasn’t changed it since the 2015 model, so just find out what you like appearance wise! :)

    outro crew, gotta go with the R3, I got the 2019 (same bike) this past summer as my first bike. Aside from the blinkers being a bit fugly, I have yet to find fault with it. I feel super confident all the time with this bike, and it is so easy to lean and turn, enough power to make me giggle, looks the best in this range by far, and my local dealer gave it to, brand new, for 4100 out the door.

    I love my 2016 R3. I started riding in 1978 and it is probably the most fun bike I have owned. That being said, due to the light weight, it is probably the scariest bike I have ever ridden on our highways here with the high winds we get. Double bubble and clipons help with headwinds but crosswinds are sketchy sometimes. All of my harley buddies get surprised when they find out their big 1800cc baggers got smoked by 321cc's in the 0-85 runs lol

    Oh wow the 2020 R3 definitely looks looks better than the 2017 I liked at and tested. It's sharper (less rounded gas tank) and has more defined lines- like a true supersport. That was one of the reasons I went with my RC390. Those headlights look fantastic too! The only thing I'm not too sure of is all of the stickers on it.

  • @u9Nails

    I have owned motorcycles for years, Harleys, Yamahas, Suzukis, Hondas... But that R3 is the most fun I've had on a motorcycle since the Yamaha RD350! That YZF-R3 is not just a beginner bike, it's one that I've owned since 2016, and I have no desires to get rid of it. What it may lack in brakes it makes up for in engine breaking. What it lacks in acceleration it makes up in MPG. I have over 30,000 miles on mine, most of them commuting and some racing, and I just give it gas and oil, and the R3 gives me smiles abundant.

    R3 is a great first rider to not only build confidence but really hone in some skills. For more experienced riders, honestly R3 is great round towner. Nimble, good pep in the power band and little weight and heat for the stop and go traffic.
    Just needs a 1 size up rear tire for better contact, stability at higher speeds (not sure if the new suspensions fixed that issue verse prev gen) and slightly more power and gearing for the 80 mph cruising mark which is the most realistic on us roads.

      I still have to experience the continuous 85-95mph feel. Awesome fairing design and engine gearing from what I've heard.

Not sure a power commander is necessary but different brake pads are needed. They work but don’t have the bite I’m looking for. I agree on engine braking. Back in 1985 you needed to know how to use that. Brake just weren’t all that good. This is just an all around great bike and a great addition to my garage. Outro : Hey Chase, love your work. The R3 looks impressive. I have a Kawasaki Vulcan S. I’ve been thinking my next bike may be a sport or sport touring. I love the thought of the Kawasaki 636, but it’s also super high dollar for me. Will the Kawasaki Ninja 400 be included in your small displacement sport bike series?

    Having never ride any of these bikes but have seen every review on TH-cam. I personally love the Rc390, it looks so amazing. But everyone seems to do: Ninja 400, Rc390, R3, CBR300R, GSXR250.

    I actually bought my own 2015 Rossi decals R3 just 3 weeks ago. I am a beginner rider and I would rather get the R3 than the Honda CBR 250. My friend has the 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 and she loves her bike. They dropped her bike for her.
    I can sit quite comfortably on my R3 without dropping the frame.
    Love the R3.

    Best thing is with this bike you tend to see some fully licensed riders on it. Near where I live there's a rider on an R3 that outpaces all the 600-1000's in the pack he rides in, and is very often near or at the front of the ride.

    I personally think if you're in the market for an ABS model bike: if you're looking to ride on track, either find a disable-able system, one with cornering abs, or just don't bother. For street -only riders, its pretty essential; but the first time you're coming off a long straightaway and you grab a handful of brake, ABS can and will scare the shit out of you.

    1- stand on the rear brake!
    2- pull in the clutch!
    3- put the transmission in first gear!
    4- open the throttle a bunch!
    5- let the clutch out!
    6- how far/fast does it go before the engine stalls?
    The parking brakes on a tractor trailer do vary little to slow down the truck. so much that, the parking brake can be engaged and the 18 wheeler still drives like normal... might hear the turbo start to spin if it even has one.

    I prefer a "naked bike" with lower cc's - which I think is perfect for "in-town" riding or commuting
    I hope the whole series comes to the USA (the R15 (150cc) and R125 with fairings are reeally fun for what they are)
    tried them out when living outside the USA

  • @WILDWILL53
    @WILDWILL53 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Chase I know these are lower cc bikes but you should do like a rolling acceleration test. In example, you dropped your speed to 75 well drop a gear and let us see what kind of acceleration that provides. To me that's important if you need to get out of a situation. No I don't mean running from John Law

    Great video thanks, I’m considering the R3 or the KTM 390 Duke as a beginner bike.
    I had a Yamaha ybr125 back around 2008 for just over a year before getting my driving license, but it’s been over 10 years since I’ve driven a bike, so I feel a lower CC bike like this would be better for me than going for a 600cc to start with.
    I will keep watching videos about good beginner bikes etc and see how i feel when the time comes.

    • @njoy_8987
