Started to go see Sonny in the early 90's and have seen him so many times I've lost count. EVERY show is phenomenal and you just can't believe what the guy can do. But perhaps the BEST thing is that after every show he hangs out to sign autographs and talk to fans. He is truly one of the nicest and most humble people you'll ever meet. A treasure.
I met Sonny shortly after South of I-10 came out. After we got his autograph I told him that "when I go to bed tonight I'm gonna thank God for giving you the talent to do what you can do, so I can listen to it". Sonny's reply was, I'm humbled. Since then I've talked him a few times and i aways tells him that again. and he'll humbly smile and we'll talk for a few minutes. He is a pretty down to earth guy.
Most excellent Mr. Landreth. I lost most of My organized music. TH-cam has a good search engine. I couldn't remember your last name. My friend Barbara recommended I see you in Berwyn Illinois, {Fitzgerald's 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd} some years back. It was then, I became addicted too your style/playing
Sonny is the modern slide master. You can hear the bayou in his playing, the history, and his unique modern spin on the craft. A guitar player's guitar player. Dig me some Sonny
I've seen Sonny many times, always puts on a great show. Saw him in the early 90's at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and he was one of 5 or 6 guitarists who where doing an afternoon workshop, each guy would play a song and then hang out behind the stage while the next guitarist did his thing..... It was Sonny's turn and ALL the guitarist game out to see who the hell was making the guitar sing the way only Sonny can... That's a memory I won't soon forget!
~~ always amazing when players can make it sound like more than one guitar is playing at the same time - some can just make blazing fast transition from a lead break to rhythm / chords etc. - while others may use effects of one kind or another to create an illusion of more than one - but this is on a whole different level - love Sonny's playing ..
I sat down with Sonny and it was...thoroughly comfortable. As a musician, he inspires wonder and inspiration. Couldn't be a nicer human being. I told him I spent the COVID lockdown decoding "Native Stepson". He seemed genuinely pleased. A nice moment. The tune is a show stopper every time. Thanks, Mr. Landreth. (I'm going to start on this tune...hopefully soon!)
I always feel great after listening and admiring his wonderful talent/skills... he really masters all the sounds that can possibly come out from a guitar... I've known about him for about 8 years and I'm always amazed of what he can do... Thank you very much Sonny for putting a smile on our face and a peaceful feeling into our hearts...No wonder Eric Clapton said that he felt honored and privileged to share the stage with Sonny...Thanks again and please don't stop playing...
Been listening to Sonny Landreth for over 30 years. His Panama Limited is one of the most incredible songs I have ever heard. I swore I was actually hearing the sounds of a train played entirely on his guitar. He is an outstanding blues man.
A buddy of mine turned me on to Sonny's music years ago. I appreciated slide players before then, but it wasn't exactly my favorite style. Sonny changed all that. :)
Love Sonny, saw him twice with Mr. Hiatt. I love the video where John says, " We're goin to Memphis, Sonny's drivin." He's my all-time fav slide along with Duane.
At the very least, one of the greatest slide guitarists of all time! Possibly the greatest! And he's really got feel, too. None of this "Finger Olympic" stuff that so many people are into these days! Like I tell my students, "you don't get paid per note!!"
Absolutely amazing and done with such grace, groove and grit! I pray for healing for the 9 who are suffereing witn tinitus. Sonny is one of my all tme 3 faves on the slide.
I wish with all my heart I could play slide like Mr. Landreth. This guy does things on his guitar this make my head spin. Always a treat to hear him play and even more so live.
Big Smile! I SO want to dance whenever I listen to this, but it's hard to dance when your jaw has hit the floor and you have to drag it around as you shuffle your feet.
I think Sonny is currently the best American slide player around. His unique and interesting finger work and phrasing sets him apart from the other greats out there. Yes, that includes Derek trucks and many others…

I got his signature!

27 people got their head knocked as a child. Damn Sonny is one of the greats, one of the best slide guitairst, if not the best.
That makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and made me post my first ever comment on TH-cam
Absolutely bloody awesome.
One man and a guitar is all you need to make some great music. One on a million.
All I can say to this mind-blowing performance is wow
Sonny!! What a killer!! Clapton loves him
Sonny is like Albert Lee,everyones favourite but not really commercially sucessful. Both have given so much pleasure.
100% agree
Pulling my jaw up from the floor. Unbelievable playing.
That fretting behind the slide thing is about the coolest thing ever
How does he do that

Mr. Landreth, thank you once again!

Who needs anything else the a guitar played this majestic way.
The behind the slide fretting is amazing. Not an easy technique to learn and he does it like a Master that he is.
Like fine wine, Sonny gets better with age.
One of the best slide players out there!! Thank you for sharing.
Sonny is magical, always a pleasure to listen to this man. Thanks for sharing.
Must have listened to this a thousand times, and am amazed every time...that a human is even capable of this.
Without a doubt, the world's greatest slide guitarist!
Awesome audio quality! Thanks. This guy is a legend
The man is an absolute virtuoso! Amazing!
You’re one of the masters Sonny. So inspiring… ❤🎶🍯👂🏻

I had a crappy week. I feel much better now. Thanx Sonny !

Give me goose bumps every time I watch it.

Sonny Landreth is a sorcerer and an alien 🎸🔥
A buddy of mine turned me on to Sonny's music years ago. I appreciated slide players before then, but it wasn't exactly my favorite style. Sonny changed all that. :)
Beautiful great slide playing one of the best love it😎
The whole piece is beautifully done, amazing tone...but you just gotta love the last note...
Makes me want to shout hallelujah, stand up and do it all again!
So much inspiration. The king.
Sonny's right hand is so sublime! All the muting and fretting "behind" the slide make him one of a kind.
In my book. Best player ever. Always makes me say 'wow'😍😍😍🎈🎈🎈
Um, I think this young fellar is catching on to this slide thing very nicely ! Thanks for sharing.
Love Sonny, saw him twice with Mr. Hiatt. I love the video where John says, " We're goin to Memphis, Sonny's drivin." He's my all-time fav slide along with Duane.
Good on ya’ Sonny!
....Magnifique !!!! ...au-delà des mots...ça vaut tous les anti-dépresseurs !!!
Thank you Mr. Landreth
I heard Sony play in Toronto in the early 80's with Junior Brown. He is a southern Louisiana Cajun slide master! " End of Story! "
At the very least, one of the greatest slide guitarists of all time! Possibly the greatest! And he's really got feel, too. None of this "Finger Olympic" stuff that so many people are into these days! Like I tell my students, "you don't get paid per note!!"
Beautiful..
Thank the lord for giving us such a wonder
That guitar sounded like a carnival 😍
1 man, 1 guitar !! consistently incredible, Mr Landreth.

An incredible talent, and although this is entirely off topic, he's really cute looking!
I think Sonny is currently the best American slide player around. His unique and interesting finger work and phrasing sets him apart from the other greats out there. Yes, that includes Derek trucks and many others…
Derek and Sonny's playing are too different to compare.
