I fuckin love this, epic performance. Really is. One of my many favorite parts is where the drummer pulls the mic away from his cymbal while Hiatt is holding the note at the end like "Yeah I'm boutta smash this thing, better pull that back...." Lol
Saw them Under The Bridge in London just beforr the pandemic. Small venue, ideal for watching Sonny Landreth play and John Hiatt to project his love for his music. Wonderful.
no such thing as a bad john hiatt song, especially with landreth accompanying on slide. discovered through ry cooder. also bobby king and terry evans. shockingly biassed, sorry!
Sounds like John is singin with his little head on this one! Havin mas enjoyment with Sonny and the rest of the boys! Oh so nice to see and hear their gritty fun. Landreth rips
This is a definite trip in the wayback machine.. Taped in Europe late 80's or early 90's.. All these guys are STILL PLAYIN' and STILL ROCKIN' OUT in 2017... Look for them on the road in 2018! FOR REAL....
Must be after 1999, cause in that year 3sat started recording the "AVO Session", but before 2013. In this year the name changed to "Baloise Session". Found it! It was recorded in 2003!
What a great version, and one of my favorite bass players, Dave Ransom gets a solo. He plays with Sonny a lot. Sonny a true guitar genius picked a truly great bass player to play with.
I got to see them both together ( John & Sonny) in Grand Junction Colorado the day , it was so Great! This summer I was lucky enough to see Sonny in Fruita Co and get his autograph! Two true legends!
@@tomthomas8472 I had the good fortune to see John and the Goners, perhaps 20 years ago (hard to believe it's been that long) what a privilege, what a show!!
I've got a bootleg somewhere on cd where John introduces Sonny Landreth on slide gritty and adds: I WOULD TRUST THIS MAN WITH MY LIFE! ...and he MEANS it. He REALLY MEANS it. This band kicks ass. YOU are so lucky to be here.
Heard an interview with Hiatt, this song was written on the side of the road in less than 1/2 hour. Elvis is in it, BB is in it and who knows who else?
My skin gets to crawlin' at about 3:00. We ought to take up a collection, build our own HOF and only induct these guys into it.What Sonny Landreth don't know about slide playing is not considered knowledge.
😂😂😂 now that ladies and gentlemen is a finale
Take your time Sonny
Never heard of Hiatt until I learned he wrote this song, which I first heard performed by BB King and Clapton. This is my go to feel-good song.
Did he write it speciallly x the album of Eric and bbking...?
@@pabloperez4063 No. It's on his album of the same name that he released in 1983. It's a tribute to Elvis.
I first heard Hiatt’s stupendous album “Slow Turning” in the ‘80’s and knew he was special. If you haven’t already checked it out, please do.
Hiatt & Landreth at their best! Crank this and just watch their joy in playing together
Just watch this after 25 years. It’s just like I remember, and at their best!
?
Good Lord...this makes me all sorts of happy!
....the best of all versions, ever!!!
Geez. Thank you Joe Bonamassa for turning me on to John Hiatt and this group. I've sure been missing a lot of great things in life. This was awesome.
I fuckin love this, epic performance. Really is. One of my many favorite parts is where the drummer pulls the mic away from his cymbal while Hiatt is holding the note at the end like "Yeah I'm boutta smash this thing, better pull that back...." Lol
John and Sonny are a synergistic match made in heaven...each fantastic alone, but even better together.
apart, on their own, both are amazing. Together, they ARE THE BEST..
Sonny and John show their souls when play like this!
Saw this live at Summerfest Milwaukee. Sonny one of the best kept secret guitar players.
Now these guys have got it just right! I’ve loved JH forever, Sonny superb as always, very cool. Thanks for sharing.
I love this old school John Hiatt Music. Takes me back to the Grand Canyon. Thanks for the flash back.
Everytime i watch it, it gets better.
Ridin’’ With The King
Amazing and fun.
Love 💕 John Hiatt.
John & Sonny - ripping it up. Love it!
This might be the best video on TH-cam.
Sonny Landreth out to be in Rolling Stone list of 100 top Rock n Roll guitarists
EVANGELIST Roger Mansour
Former Leslie West drummer
Saw them Under The Bridge in London just beforr the pandemic. Small venue, ideal for watching Sonny Landreth play and John Hiatt to project his love for his music. Wonderful.
Two truly INCREDIBLE musicians!
Make that four.
@@randysorenson2530 Dave Sanson on bass is the miraculous marriage of rock and funk.
Used to play a JH tape over and over on board of the second frigate i sailed on in the 80's...my shipmates quickly grew tired of it
..not me though...
Those 2 never disappoint. Hiatt is a master alone and then you have that slide playing.....
Correction: those 4 never disappoint. John and the Goners played at Jazzfest on May 6, 2023 to close out the Fais Do Do stage - awesome set.
Can't think of a more natural fit than Sonny and Hiatt.
haven't came across this in awhile...what a great performance...Landreth as always, but
Hiatt was playing his butt off, too.
Might be the single best John Hiatt live recording ever!
Rusty Squire Agreed, I saw him live once. He is great.
slow turning?
Rusty Squire Austin City Limits is a good one John Hiatt and the Guilty Dogs live.
no such thing as a bad john hiatt song, especially with landreth accompanying on slide. discovered through ry cooder. also bobby king and terry evans. shockingly biassed, sorry!
Agree, so much energy and special vibes going on.
John showing he can play that axe and Sonnys excellence pushing him to do better
I just love John Hiatt's voice. Wow, can he sing! 👏👏👏
After all these years, the best!
still blows my mind this is like medicine!!!!!!!
Thumbs down should be disabled for this video. How COULD you ?
The boys got this one together REAL GOOD and John is gettin' one hell of a buzz out of it!
John and Sonny…Perfect together!!
What a gift- everything works.
Best dad-band ever
Kenny Blevins! One of the best drummers in the biz.
They are truly great talents...real pros and such an
amazing good job on vocals..entire band is fantastic
The epitome of the tight bass groove.
Sonny plays that guitar really like ringing a bell. Definitely the very best version of Riding with the King!
Coolest, rock steady drummer ever👍😊
4 incredible musicians!
Sounds like John is singin with his little head on this one! Havin mas enjoyment with Sonny and the rest of the boys! Oh so nice to see and hear their gritty fun. Landreth rips

Looking at John's hairline and Sonny wearing spectacles, I'd say this is around 2000. I guess 2003 is alright with me.
This is an OUTSTANDING pairing!
Excellent choice Billy! Keep em coming... I did not know he wrote that jam
‘I had a guitar hanging about waist high, I’m gonna play that thing until the day I die.’👏
Absolute lengendary! Never grows old. What great energy and joy!!
sonny the maestro the bench mark of slide .nuff said , and as nice a man as they come ...
Yeah sonny killed it on this one......Again. ( think Forrest Gump going to the white house to meet the president.) Don't happen all the time?
have seen both these guys each one puts a hell of a show on, together they burn it down lovem both
Love S.L. seen him live in Vancouver Canada a few times, UNBELIEVABLE TALENT! SUPERBE!
What a great version, and one of my favorite bass players, Dave Ransom gets a solo. He plays with Sonny a lot. Sonny a true guitar genius picked a truly great bass player to play with.
Dave and Sonny have played together since high school, and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
Thanks for posting......Hiatt RULES!

Two true legends!
What a voice...
that rhythm section is killing !!
David Ransom-bass Kenneth Blevins-drums ...along with Sonny Landreth they are John Hiatt's band The Goners. The goners are all Loos-iana lads.
@@tomthomas8472 I had the good fortune to see John and the Goners, perhaps 20 years ago (hard to believe it's been that long) what a privilege, what a show!!
@@tomthomas8472 I had a long talk with David yrs ago, about Lafayette, working with both John and Sonny. As nice as he is talented...
Saw this band open for Robert Cray in VT late 80s - they kicked his ass
I saw them on the same tour, in Memphis. And you’re right.
How rude! LOL How, true, too...LOL
Just saw them at the 2023 New Orleans Jazzfest. Love Sonny's work, but Dave Ranson's bass solo blew me away. He rarely gets to solo, and he's a stud!!
And Hyatt held that last "King" for 19 seconds.

I wish more people knew him......
It seems the slide guitar player played heart of gold solo. That was very beautiful.
I love Sonny Landreth's guitar playing.
