Today we take the old time machine once again to a past Windows operating system, but this time its real tech with original hardware and a physical time machine instead of just a virtual machine. Doing some Patreon requests in SketchUp.

the fact that peter made ok looking 3d models out of a program that was made for designing basic shapes of houses
No it was used in videosgames
@@everythingpony Programmes used to create models for videogames were far superior
i think they used shit like 3ds max and houdini@@everythingpony
@@uithamnah dude they use blender
yeah that's what I thought too
Not only was programming for N64 a nightmare, but some developers weren't even allowed to see the console or the controller. They either had to stick their hands into a box and feel around for the buttons and stick or they had to use another controller in place of it. That's how hardcore Nintendo was about letting anything slip out to the competition. Because of that, Rare had to use a Sega Saturn controller to make Goldeneye. Probably why the early version was planned to be a clone of Virtua Cop instead of a free moving first person shooter like the final game.
Before Spaceworld 95 I could understand this, but afterward everyone already knew what it looked like lmao.
But if N kept doing that insanity even when it was unnecessary, I wouldn't be surprised in the least.
Can you imagine sticking your hands in a box and being like "wtf, does this thing have THREE handles?"
Peter is the absolute last person I thought would get a sponsor
And here we are
he's gotten sponsors before
a bit ago he did temu... bro
For me the last person I would expect to get a sponsor would be Scott the Woz imo
@@kingknight387 he got one already
@@Aykes_wow the app that's getting integrated by the government
It’s awesome and great to see how much Peter evolved and how much he has grown. I remember me and my sister watching his Sonic Boom ytps and the “What’s Up With” Series. He was probably the TH-camr that got me into Sonic. His content has actually gotten better since the last time I watched him. Nice to see he’s doing good and his channel has gotten a lot of recognition and has gotten very popular.
Oh my gosh! Thanks for the heart ❤️ Can’t believe Peter saw and hearted my comment.
@@dimension4700 your handle is hilarious to me
I think it’s illegal to not use a computer with windows xp in a musty basement
Although technically speaking, I don't think there will be any working Windows XP computers in a basement by the year 2100.
@@ElectricoGamezwell they will be in the landfill and that’s close enough
But the question would be will they be extractable in a restorable form?
And I mean the last Windows 10 PC will be covered in 80 to 90% rust by then.
Who knows what the condition of a Windows XP, Vista, or even Windows 7 pc will be like by then.
being an architecture student watching a guy using sketchup to make sonic is... something lmao
to be fair, that's pretty much how it feels to use it for it's intended purpose. i know some architects do sick shit with it but personally idk how to work it, it feels like a baby program
omg fellow architecture student
We’ve gone full circle. The first time you used a real XP machine, It inspired me to fix my own old PC. And after 6 months I did. Then 3 years later, he does it again. And not only that, the PC he uses is the same one I have. I feel like a new man!
Also good job getting a sponsor!
same
Wow I can’t believe he actually made this in 2001 and kept the recording until now to post it. Thanks peatta
Cool seeing another 3D modeling video, the program you were using seemed pretty easy to use. If you were to end up modeling Brian from the family man show, I feel like the entire time you'd just be like, "Hey Louis, remember that one time?".
hi haybo
@@ssdrawrof oh hi
ITS LOIS NOT LOUIS
@@notkitkatto I know I spelt it wrong on purpose.
@@bluedog4754 Truly accurate
It's funny that you're talking about sketchup in the past-tense. They still use it in high schools.
Peter finally gets a sponsor after 9 years
And it's a cool sponsor for something that relates to the channel in a fun way, not a scam mobile game or financing thing!
@@BinglesP agreed, unlike jontron that spit shit on shadowl egends, only to now sponsor shadow legend
@@BinglesP Who knew, 'tis more effective to sponsor people whose target audience might actually consider buying your product.
@@BinglesP someone said he did temu, idk if its true but if it is,thennnnn your argument is fricking ded
@@CerryOnBottom No, I'm talking about *this* case, not in general.
Patter has come so far, can´t wait to see him design the character models for the next Smash Brothers game!
There actually is a mod of Smash on N64 that puts Sonic in the game! :)
@@macuser7048 That sounds cool, I gotta check that out. Thanks for telling me about it!
As a hobbyist 3D modeler who got their start in Sketchup, this is both nostalgic and deeply frustrating. Nice to revisit the program before it got acquired and moved onto a subscription model -- you know, back when it was GOOD -- but it also reminds me viscerally just how limited it was.
So glad we have better options now.
You do sponsors in the best way making them just as entertaining as any other part of content you'd make. Seriously this deserves credit lol
I like how he simplifies it too. :)
Peter making that sphere from scratch is how it feels when you start to believe you can make complicated things in 3d but have no idea how youre gonna get there
As someone who once tried to make a circle in SketchUp, I salute Peter's patience with this wonderful program.
hello peter, i've been watching you for like 5 years and you made me learn english, so idk kinda cool.
How crazy cool. Thanks
As an initiate of the lo-poly/64-bit style of 3D Modeling, this looks infinitely more painful than what I already have to put up with.
This brings back so much nostalgia of playing "3D" Space Cadet Pinball on Windows XP. I think I still have my old sleeper PC.
3D modeling was a lot harder than I thought when I had to use Autodesk CAD for school, and all we were making were blocks and other technical stuff. I have a lot of respect for people who make 3D character models from scratch now😅
That was the funniest sponsor ever
It's amazing how much sketchup controls hasn't changed since 2001
I had no idea this program existed but now I want it
(Windows 10 3D Builder/Paint 3D and SculptGL will still probably be my favorite dumbed-down modeling freewares though)
sketchup is an architecture program, it isn't meant to model characters lol
@@stressedwes9565 I play Algodoo all the time and that's supposed to be a modelling tool too. The intended purpose won't stop me!
@@BinglesP Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while. I also lived playing around with incredibots!
SketchUp met the ultimate fate of all proprietary software, and got enshittified.
Seeing Peter getting sponsored is literally going to make me cry im so happy for him, ive watched for four years or more. Anyway triplets born
Watching Peter navigate through Windows XP and struggle with 3D modeling is like witnessing a time traveler trying to order a pizza in ancient Rome
its actually amazing how little sketchup has changed! I used it for architecture classes in the past couple years
Bro, Peters Ads don’t make me mad at all. He does them so well 😂😂😂
0:07 You can feel him resisting the urge to say "We are going back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu. Thats right, we are going back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu.
These videos keep getting better and better nice work Peter 💙
as soon as you started playing the star wars game I immediately remembered when the room was filling with poison gas and you mentioning it made me extremely happy for some reason lol
i was using SketchUp8 to make all of my 3D models until this year when I finally got into Blender. It's amazing how intuitive such an old program could be!
I remember how when i was 8, i used to LOVE messing around with sketchup. Heck, i may have even been younger than that. When i had my internship at an event management firm and they let me use their cad software, it immediately fired off those old and forgotten neurons i had.
That is the only sponsor bit, I have literally never even considered skiping while I was watching it. It was like getting a little mini Peter video within a longer one, amazing
This guy is what I call naturally funny. He's funniest when he's just sitting there talking
THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING VIDS PATTER.❤
First Peter Knetter video I’ve watched in years!
Yay! Windows XP! Finally, something worth watching. Great video, dude!
Blender existed then. I don't think sketch up existed in 2001, I guess actually blender wasn't "freed" until 2002
peter’s ads are the only ones that i will never skip
I love u so much Peter…..I want to sub to your patreon so bad man. Thanks for being my favorite TH-camr!
Super glad u made this video, I've also been interested in 2000s modeling recently.
You have any place when i can donwland this old software?
i use sketchup for my interior architecture job! its so easy its amazing i love it
Windows XPeter is my favourite new character from the PCU (Peter Cinematic Universe).
I'm so glad someone made this comment 😂
this unlocked a lot of memories for me as someone who was (for some reason) taught this program in stem class as a kid. could be good for wolfenstein 3d type stuff, ultra simplified maze maps.
Great to see the great Petter Knetter Jobs working on the next step of technology!
I love how your videos always feel like home videos
“youtube in” but rebranded as 3d modeling because at this point there’s no youtube related stuff in the series
the fact that he's using a architecture modeling software to make a sonic.
my whole body is screaming 3DS MAAAAAX
like I didn't even know about Sketchup until WAY later
the fact they still use this app in modern schools is just...
i actually used to use this program playing around as a child, and you made me remember it :3
Hey I remember having that computer! Good to see it's being put to good use now
its funny how little has sketchup changed in over 20 years
Sketchup in 2001: Cool
Sketchup in 2010: Mario Kart!
Sketchup after 2019: Bad
Sketchup after Peter Knetter: 2001
Lets just appreciate the fact this dude has Sonic's Schoolhouse installed
And yet 10 years prior to this they managed to make life like dinosaurs on the Jurassic park movies they even look real today. Just incredible
They had better software and hardware
This programm looks very primitive comparing to modeling tools professionals had
That was done on very expensive SGI workstations.
the nostalgia of using sketch up to make stages and all kinds of assets for mikumikudance
SketchUp 4.0 was released in July 13, 2004. I was pretty proficient with SketchUp - I have licenses for Pro 6 and Pro 8. However, I started with a trial of 4.0 back in '04 at 12 years old without any 3D acceleration.
That Sonic model wasn't half bad
Y’know Peter is the only TH-camr that makes me not want to skip the sponsors . 😂
My fav youtube channel.
i didn't know sketchup was so dang old!
how is bro calmly talking to this thing like its an elderly pet, i would be screaming my lungs out like it was trying to be a smug little bastard trying to purposefully ruin my day like i do to blender
SketchUp my beloved
We used SketchUp for our geek squad back in 8th grade It was really confusing at first but I got the hang of it.
Lol i remember watching you like 3 years ago. Nice to see your content is still fire
BUGSPLAT BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES OF SO MANY THINGS CRASHING; THAT WAS WAR TRAUMA.
Star Wars the Phantom Menace for pc was my childhood. I love that game so much. You just took me on a trip down memory lane. Lol
Pater using sketchup reminds me of my architecture professor.
I'd like to see this video in particular absolutely blow up
Congrats on the sponsor! You deserve it, man
1:45 is literally the words out my mouth every time I'm trying to do something in blender
Glad to know my Kirbo request is what made the program crash. Worth it. 😎
You can use two intersecting circles, one vertical and one horizontal and use the "Follow Me" tool to make a sphere. Although, I don't remember if this version of SketchUp has that tool...
the ad part was so in character, I didn't skip it 🤣❤
man is literally living the dreams nobody had
So glad the old outro music is back
I'd love to see you use blender from this era
That program looks so intuitive to me
3:45 this is the best ad ive ever seen for a TH-cam video
0:35
literally my first Sketchup experiences in around 2012 lol
LETS GOO THE NEW "TH-cam in" but 3d modelling
Patter dressed as steve jobs is iconic
THAT IS THE BEST SPONSOR SEGMENT
Bruh this looks more fun than using Maya or Blender I wanna try this. I got a beefy XP rig for the job
I had to use sketchup a couple years ago for school granted I was using a much newer version.
As a Greek, I can confirm that his ancestor wasn't Pharaoh Artesius The Patient
can confirm, cold feet and back pain is a staple of using WinXP on that specific Dell PC
At 0:12: The sound of perfection
I bet you could make a game with your modles😊😊
It’s always a good day when petter uploads

@@S_a_m_ ok and
the main problem with using sketch up for art is that it’s not an art program. it was (and still is) for design purposes.
*pikabob song abruptly interrupted by a burp.*
i've never heard of your channel until i found it through the algorithm
you get a sub, you seem really fun!
I'm surprised you're not more popular!
I member Sketchup in the early 2000s, the tutorial would taunt you with a very cool steam engine and then would describe how to draw a chair or something. It got me thinking in sketches and extrusions which is much of CAD engineering. For my job I learned inventor/fusion 360 and then got solid works because I didn't want to pay monthly for cloud software. Also i've been dabbling in blender for more organic modeling
SO THIS PROGRAM WAS THE SECRET AND KEY FOR DO THOSE FUNNY 3D GIFS ? IMAGINE DO LOT OF SKELETONS!
This guy is just so talented!
Back in 2001 there was more than just Sketchup, there was Rhino 3D, 3D Studio Max, Lightwave 3D, and several others than ran on PC back the, not to mention the 3D modeling programs for Mac back then as well.
There's a lot to hate about Sketchup but the whole connect the dots to make faces thing makes it so damn easy and natural. I still sometimes just love loading it up and making a random house or living room. Sometimes I even install the V-Ray Trial just to see how good it can do. Sketchup is both SO badly optimized that in many ways its useless for cad but in other ways weirdly more powerful than just about anything.
SketchUp was meant for CAD and Architecture, but growing up in the late 2000s and early 2010s, SketchUp was what we as kids had to make 3D models, and we had some school lessons with it too
This video is great I enjoyed it watching it Peter.
So take me back in timeeee
To another world
Ahhhh just like the old days like gmod days just being your self keep it up dude
