Bought a TC Compass 6.5CM on the used market here in the Houston area at a local gun show. I don't know what the trigger pull actually is but it is not excessive. It shoots less than 1 MOA with Remington green box 140gr Cor-Loks PSP. Functions perfectly. I am very pleased and took 2 cull bucks on my son's ranch in Llano, TX this season. I shot my best groups with the thread protector screwed off the barrel. Why? No idea. I highly recommend.
I picked up a Thompson Center Compass in 6.5 Creedmoor last week and put a Sightron 4 to 12 mil-dot scope on it and just added a bipod today. I haven't shot it yet but the build quality is very impressive for the price particularly now that it's deeply discounted at the dealers and there's a $75 rebate from the manufacturer. That brings the base price of the rifle in under $200 which is less than a decent pellet gun. It's just incredible. Kudos to Thompson Center for this one.
Awesome gun for the money bought this gun at Dicks sporting goods on sale plus 75.00 rebate from Thompson center arms total cost after rebate 180.00 dollars mounted a Bushnell bone collector scope on it 3x9x40 took it to the range after 3 shots 1 inch high at 100 yards perfect best hunting rifle I've ever owned .... 30-06
I live in Alaska, so obviously I hunt here, also Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, get down in Florida to snag some pigs, I have a TC .308 and it is definitely what I would recommend, unless you feel the need to spend a lot of money which by all means go ahead this gun does the trick, moose, Caribou'ta, grizz, black bear, elk......I will say this I perferbmy Mossberg patriot 30-06, it definitely has a smooth bolt action, the tc definitely takes range time to get it smooth, but I've hunt with both and they have been good to me, caliber wise I feel it makes no difference if you get the range time in, gotta be on target before you step in the bush
Just got my new Compass 308. Trigger Breaks clean.. But wow!! You really have to pull it!! No way is my trigger 3.5 lbs!! More like 7!! I removed the trigger group and found it was dry as can be!! I drenched it in lube and re installed with locTight on the 2 screws.. And now.. It feels more like 5 lbs... Still not 3.5. But I can live with 5 or so. Maybe after break in it will come down. The lube really helped for sure. I mounted a bi pod, Muzzle brake with ring and loctight, 8x32 50mm telescope!! good to 1000 meters. So.. I should be GTG good to go!! :) 5R is just the best!!
@James clark I drenched it in a lube that evaporates and then leaves a dry lube. But I get your point on trigger group. Easy to remove and clean on this compass. I will use a drop on sear points with #9 and leave it at that. I might clean the whole trigger group with pre mix and then let it be. Here is a gun smith that recommends gun grease on bolt breech contact points and bolt cam. th-cam.com/video/7OF--Pic4Og/w-d-xo.html
I have one in .308... would be a great rifle if the trigger pull weight could be set lighter than 6.25lbs! Unfortunate for me, I got stuck with a recalled one without it being disclosed to me upon sale. It was recalled and "fixed" before being sold to me. I wasn't aware of the recall or fix. It WILL NOT PERFORM WITHIN THE RANGE OF 3.5-5lbs as published at the time of sale. The recall fix from Thompson Center... crank that trigger pull weight up! So much for hunting and being able to easily "tap" off a round for an accurate shot. Best of luck that yours doesn't get recalled and it has to go back to T/C to be made safe with heavy trigger pull. T/C customer service wont do anything for me but "Maybe" try to get it down to 5lbs. I want it to perform as I was told at the time of sale... between 3.5 and 5lbs. looks like I'll be hunting with anything but a T/C Compass Rifle this Fall. It's really too bad they didn't engineer this right.
Now's the time to get one if you haven't. You can get one without a scope in either .270, 22-250 or .30-06 for ~$160 from the Woodbury Outfitters website after mail-in rebate and using the coupon code GLADTOMEETYOU630 Another company called KY Gun Co has a wider selection of calibers for just under $200 after mail-in rebate without a scope.
I got my TC Compass 6.5 Creedmoor through sportsmansguide. Got it with the scope, including transfer fee, I paid a total of $239.99 with $75.00 rebate factored in. Not a bad price. Though I suspect one could shop around and get an even better price. Better hurry though as I think the rebate program is ending on 4/30/18.
I guess I'm weird. I grew up believing a 5-6 lb trigger in a 6-7 pound rifle is nothing. Especially when you're used to shooting a 5 lb trigger in a handgun well. It's short. It's crisp and it breaks clean. What's not to love?
Would have been nice if he would have let us know what kind of ammo he was shooting and what grain...I can't read that box and that was a good group. I've never seen a box of ammo that looks like that.
I have noticed there are a number of owners on youtube replacing the trigger spring. It does drop the pull down to about 3.5 pounds. Not sure if the gun will then pass the drop test.
I finally got rebate 4 months later. Whe I inquired they told me three different times that there was record of me applying. I finally got a girl that took my app again and said I would have my rebate in three weeks and I did get it at that time
3.5 pounds from the factory my azz it won't go any lower than 5 and if you got one that does you're lucky. Need to buy a spring kit to actually get it tolerable. Once you do that it's a great shooter.
I hope that Rebate works better than than the one Smith&Wesson offers. So far I have waited for Three months and no rebate yet bur a lot of run around. STILL WAITING
myself and a couple family members bought the compass and did the rebate mine took abouth 2 months to get and the other 3 rebates took less than a month to get. hell of a nice gun. mine i 300 win mag and the others are 308. 7mm-08 and 30-06. all grouped 7/8 inch at 100 yards or less with my handloed ammo. can not complain for a gun that cost 200 bucks after rebate. i took a deer with my 300 win mag last year at 275 yards right through the heart. remington was horrible for there rebate, i bought 15 boxs of there core lokt ammo rebate was for $5 off every box took 3 months and several phone calls to get my money. ended up paying 8.75 per box of 30-30 and 9.50 for 30-06. hell of deal tho
if you really reff on it, it will. but the stock is way nicer and stiffer than the ruger American. way better rifle than a ruger American of the savage version. I have it in 300 win mag and it is sweet!
I bought a 308 compass shoots horrible. Don't buy one. It has a deep throat seems like NATO. Don't like most ammo and has cold shot 2 to 3inches off . Barrel is to thin and unreliable to many flyers. Not to trust you get what you pay for. Spend a little more money. Budget mean mass production less quality control.poor built.

I've come to really love the bolt design on the compass. You can put a monster scope on those rifles without any interference whatsoever.

Cost is 349 at Dicks.
How does this compare with Remington model 783 in 30-06? Nice rifle!
I have the same exact setup! Also works great

this is something I would have to try when I start especially for that price.

Black Hills Ammunition
@@GunTalkTV Thanks! Weight of bullet???
You stated that the trigger can be ajusted from 3.5 to 5.5 lbs. Can you explain just how you can do that>?
Yeah I got one it had around a 7lb pull from factory. Bought a spring kit and got it down to 3.5
I hope that Rebate works better than than the one Smith&Wesson offers. So far I have waited for Three months and no rebate yet bur a lot of run around. STILL WAITING
I bought 3 tc compass and got all 3 rebates. enter the serial number on the website and it automatically registers you for rebate
Went to the website, entered my serial number, and got my rebate in less than 2 weeks.

.22 hornet?? 6.5 swede .220 swift? I love Thompson centers but would butterknife that bolt!
Wonder if we can get a good after market stock?
Boyd.
i like it
That stock is flimsy but that's what's your saving your money
cody preitauer , It is flimsy but I like it better than savage axis stock .
Any comment to what brand/model the bipod is?
It's a Harris style bipod. There's all sorts of brands that make it.
Wonder if the front hand guard flexes like the Ruger American , making the free floated barrel touch the chassis ?
if you really reff on it, it will. but the stock is way nicer and stiffer than the ruger American. way better rifle than a ruger American of the savage version. I have it in 300 win mag and it is sweet!
"As much as you want to get." Really? I would like all my bullets to go through the same hole. "As much as you need to get." Possibly.
mobile Legends practice more to be perfect, the variables change with each shot, good luck
1" with factory ammo is top notch. Handloads is where it shines.
Ok so why the hell do you want an over priced Remington 700 junk that can't even make 2 inch group?
I bought a 308 compass shoots horrible.
Don't buy one.
It has a deep throat seems like NATO.
Don't like most ammo and has cold shot 2 to 3inches off . Barrel is to thin and unreliable to many flyers.
