The white doors/frames/trim looks like it goes well with the decor and the bed. I like the dark walls, really sets the mood.

right?! It's nice that all the white looks like a frame for the walls and make them "pop" more

There is truly something amazing about old things, especially houses; to think it existed before anyone else [who's alive today] really gives it such an inexplicable magic and mystery that surrounds places like yours...
Also for some reason I'm reminded of the scene when Mr. Hallorann talks to Danny in "the Shining" movie; he explains the (obvious part) that some people have the Shining but also, like people that places can "shine" too... it makes you think a place can have its own "soul" (for lack of a better term) and also makes it not inherently evil, plus its much more poetic than simply calling the house "haunted" (though everyone knows what haunted means obv) Its just an absolutely FANTASTIC concept that's always stuck with me! Sorry, just felt the urge to mention that and best of luck to you both and I know with your artistic instinct, vision and care you will definitely make your new home SHINE ;)

aahh I love these kind of videos, room makeovers make me want to rearrange my whole bedroom every time, diy decors, paint etc. As we have a similar preference in decorating (dark academia is amazing, so cosy and mysterious) this is inspiring me so much for when I'll finally have a house of my own and I can decorate it how I want. I love decorating rooms, rearranging them, it's exciting because once is over you look at it and say "I did all that, I'm so proud of how it turned out" and it's more yours if you do it yourself. House makeovers are a great way to express ourselves artistically, it reflects how we are and it makes it better to work and live in an environment that you feel it's yours, it's your safe space, living in a house that you love rather than one that feels toxic for many reasons one might have, makes a big difference to mental health, it improves it and you are willing to take care of your home more 🖤

the vibes are immaculate and the guest book setup is really thoughtful 👍 your hard work has def paid off. about the fireplace, i don’t love the light color of the tiles in contrast to the walls because it feels cold. whether you paint it over or replace it with different tile, you might consider something darker, maybe even with brass/gold accents to echo the ceiling light and switch/outlet plates. deep dark green looks great with black + golds imo. excited to see part two! can’t wait for that trim transformation 😍 gotta lot of respect for you seeking excellence in the reno process and going about it slowly and methodically for the best possible results ✨

I love the white doors and trim with the dark walls, I think it really highlights the beautiful color of the walls and keeps just a little bit of lightness in the room.

Hot tip for the shop vac spewing dust!! There are different filters meant for different jobs, there are filters specifically meant for plaster/drywall dust, typical filters will just allow the super small particles to pass through it. Also, you can buy an attachment from home depot or lowes for the output of the shop vac that will further filter fine particles, it is on the exterior of the machine and attaches to the output hole. I have been renovating my own homes for years and a properly set up shop vac is the unsung hero of many a project

I personally think that the lighter doors look really good and pop against the dark walls. A very well decorated room, the dark walls look fantastic for the theme 😊

The room is amazing! This is perfectly my style honestly XD However , I'm afraid that if your paint the doors the same color as the wall it would be too dark at the end. It's just my thought, but I like the white doors and trims honestly ! Anyway, nice work you did !! :D

The dark walls look so good with your mantel! It’s fun getting to see your illustration for the space come to life. I like your slower pace to design and look forward to seeing how the space morphs as you settle in. :)

The room looks amazing 🥹 it makes me really miss living in an old home. We’ve rented two homes built in 1905-1910 and it’s always been a dream to have one of my own! Great work you guys and I’m SO looking forward to more videos 🖤

it looks BEAUTIFUL I love a dark wall 😍 I think people shy away from them because they're so bold but it looks amazing I can't wait to see the woodwork done alongside it! loving the home content lately :)

It looks so beautiful! I love the dark paint. Those fireplace mantle tiles are unique to the period and one of the most special elements of a Victorian house (tiles like that are not made anymore!) so I would beg that you don't alter them or remove them. If you really don't like the color, you could potentially build a tile surround "cover" with plywood and tile/faux tile that would fit over the original surround.

I highly recommend the channel "our restoration nation" they specialize in homes of this era. Often the wood in the downstairs of the home would have been left unpainted if it was a higher quality wood (as a show of wealth and extravagance) but the wood upstairs was often less expensive since those were the family living quarters and guests wouldn't be entertained there and being painted was a way to hide the less expensive wood

I think the difference of using plaster on dry wall, or basically just using different materials is how those different materials expand and contract due to changes in temperature, humidity, etc. That would mean cracks in walls and other damages over time, as weather and seasons changes.

I love the idea of a HAUNTED Dark Academia themed guest room! 🦇✨ This mansion is definitely your vibe, and I’m glad to see more of Zac in your recent videos too! I find it so interesting that you have a Jane Austen tarot deck - do you collect themed tarot decks like you do for antique books?

If you don't want to poke holes in your walls, try command strips! My entire family uses them and they work great, they can also hold quite a bit of weight. Give them a try and I'm sure you won't regret it. Also, the room looks wonderful!❤

We added a picture rail into our Edwardian house and it was a struggle! I think if your walls are really straight with perfect 90 degree angles it'd be a lot easier to do, but we had to recut a fair few pieces to account for wonkiness. That said, it was nothing a bit of wood filler couldn't fix and now they're painted they look perfect!

    • @HoneyPlumPaper
      @HoneyPlumPaper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Also have you considered painting the ceiling the same colour as your walls? We chose a pretty dark colour and did it all over the walls and ceiling, you'd be surprised at how much bigger it makes the room feel :)

If those mantel tile surrounds are original and complete they are worth a mint, and it really depends on your goal with the house if you want to maintain it or update it. My personal opinion is that it would be criminal to remove them, but you're the one who has to live there so my opinion doesn't matter.

This was very pleasant to watch, I do hope we'll be seeing more makeover content from you. I also really really appreciate you omitting unpleasant noise from the video, a lot of makeover content on youtube include incredibly distressing sounds like drilling and it makes them unwatchable for me so thank you for suppressing them and just not including most of it. :)
