It was mostly because my family thought it would be better to have our classes tailored as it would give us an advantage later on which was true. As a retired professor, I didn't know this aesthetic was a 'thing' until recently. I think I've lived most of my life this way. I am going to buy the dark globe from Walmart. I've never seen one like it and I'm glad it's not huge - more placement potential. Very nice room makeover!

I definitely got lucky with a lot of the items but a really good place to find these is on eBay. You can get stuff on there for super cheap but you’ll have to wait about three months for it to ship to you if you want to get it for as little as possible 😅 still worth it though

Just wanted to add a quick PSA about the use of candles in this video. I am in no way advising anyone to light candles in the way I choose to in my video. Candles were lit strictly for my shots and were blown out after. If you do choose to have candles in your home opt for flameless candles (this is what I use day to day) and if you do choose to have real candles, Please use with caution, do not leave candles unattended at anytime and keep them away from anything flammable.

I love, love, LOVE your room!! My aesthetic used to be cottagecore but I didn't like how bugs where annoying and creepy, etc. Like- Bloodyhell I got bitten 6 times in one night, and I really like dark academia and this year I'm gonna study more in school and try to get decent grades cause last year(freshmen year) It didn't go so well, and my weakest subject is math and I really wanna focus on that in school and also of course studying for test and all that! I want my room to be like yours a little, I like reading books and I want to watch 'How to kill your darling', 'A dead poets society' and 'Heartstoppers', my clothes are gonna be mostly male because I'm transmasc and I do want like those round glasses that Daniel Radcliffe wore in 'How to kill your darling'(I've seen the trailer), I do have black and white glasses but to me, I don't think they fit my face well.

You gave it a good try and I liked aspects of your makeover but please, please, please don't use plastic plants. Takes it from wow to tacky in a heart beat. Another good image tip is to use cabinet cards (the old style card mounted photographs popular in the Victorian and Edwardian era). I have lots of family ones but if you don’t, they’re often found cheaply in lots in thrift shops or on eBay.

Very nice, great job. Command hooks have weight limits listed on the package, they do not fall off, I use them all the time. I have a heavyweight one holding a mirror and lots of old frames. If you wanted the room to be darker or a different color Wayfair has peel and stick wallpaper that pulls right off when you move.
I’ve been worried to try them out because the last time I used them they ripped the paint off the wall when I took them off. Have you had the same issue?
@@justlanchen No. You have to pull the tape down VERY slowly and it will get super long. If you yank it too hard or fast you might pull the paint off but I've never had it happen.

very pretty room! im a little concerned that you might be thinking that the bin of books outside a bookstore meant to grab your eye and entice you in... is free. they have they them at every bookstore ive ever gone to and are very rarely have a sign with a set price, so i could see someone potentially thinking they are free. i cant really imagine a bookstore having a 'free books' bin, since they typically would donate to a library. Its certainly possible but my instincts are telling me 'unlikely'.
oh no these are free I promise. You can take up to 2 boxes which is crazy but most are heavily damaged. That would be awful if people were stealing books on accident. TBH though its the only book store I've found in my life that has free books, minus the llittle libraries where you trade.

I've been living this aesthetic my entire life. Even as a very young school kid I gravitated towards history and language. Then Dead Poets Society "happened to me" in 1994 as a 13 year old, and it cemented my love for it. Having had a lot of hard times due to long bouts of depression, I am finally in a place mentally and financially where I can make the changes to my living space that I want. I have tossed a lot of hand me down stuff that I had to accept because I didn't have the means to buy new stuff, and the process has been really fun and healing in a lot of ways. Ditched my old couch for a DIY pallet couch that actually fits my living room. I thrift a lot of furniture and accessories. Everything I do just adds to this feeling of belonging.
One of the ways I get around not putting holes in the wall is to used the backboard of bookshelves. Either using hooks or stickies to hang small frames in a collage or arrangements of small items, which gives it a sort of wunderkammer effect, especially if they're partially obscured by the books on the shelf.

Very nice, great job. Command hooks have weight limits listed on the package, they do not fall off, I use them all the time. I have a heavyweight one holding a mirror and lots of old frames. If you wanted the room to be darker or a different color Wayfair has peel and stick wallpaper that pulls right off when you move.
I’ve been worried to try them out because the last time I used them they ripped the paint off the wall when I took them off. Have you had the same issue?

@@justlanchen No. You have to pull the tape down VERY slowly and it will get super long. If you yank it too hard or fast you might pull the paint off but I've never had it happen.

im a little concerned that you might be thinking that the bin of books outside a bookstore meant to grab your eye and entice you in... is free. they have they them at every bookstore ive ever gone to and are very rarely have a sign with a set price, so i could see someone potentially thinking they are free. i cant really imagine a bookstore having a 'free books' bin, since they typically would donate to a library. Its certainly possible but my instincts are telling me 'unlikely'.
oh no these are free I promise. You can take up to 2 boxes which is crazy but most are heavily damaged. That would be awful if people were stealing books on accident. TBH though its the only book store I've found in my life that has free books, minus the llittle libraries where you trade.

I've been living this aesthetic my entire life. Even as a very young school kid I gravitated towards history and language. Then Dead Poets Society "happened to me" in 1994 as a 13 year old, and it cemented my love for it. Having had a lot of hard times due to long bouts of depression, I am finally in a place mentally and financially where I can make the changes to my living space that I want.
I have tossed a lot of hand me down stuff that I had to accept because I didn't have the means to buy new stuff, and the process has been really fun and healing in a lot of ways.
Ditched my old couch for a DIY pallet couch that actually fits my living room.
I thrift a lot of furniture and accessories.
Everything I do just adds to this feeling of belonging.
One of the ways I get around not putting holes in the wall is to used the backboard of bookshelves. Either using hooks or stickies to hang small frames in a collage or arrangements of small items, which gives it a sort of wunderkammer effect, especially if they're partially obscured by the books on the shelf.
Oh I love that idea so much!!! This is the first time I’ve ever heard of it actually, i’ll have to keep it in mind for future projects. Such a good idea

I had no idea this was a thing until last week. Aside from framed butterflies my entire house is this aesthetic. Love it. Back in my day 57 yrs young here, people called my decor style eclectic.
