I've been living this aesthetic my entire life. Even as a very young school kid I gravitated towards history and language. Then Dead Poets Society "happened to me" in 1994 as a 13 year old, and it cemented my love for it. Having had a lot of hard times due to long bouts of depression, I am finally in a place mentally and financially where I can make the changes to my living space that I want. I have tossed a lot of hand me down stuff that I had to accept because I didn't have the means to buy new stuff, and the process has been really fun and healing in a lot of ways. Ditched my old couch for a DIY pallet couch that actually fits my living room. I thrift a lot of furniture and accessories. Everything I do just adds to this feeling of belonging.

I love how much the decorations are things that can be found at thrift shops or antique stores, and even my grandma's guest room. Just wanted to add a quick PSA about the use of candles in this video. I am in no way advising anyone to light candles in the way I choose to in my video. Candles were lit strictly for my shots and were blown out after. If you do choose to have candles in your home opt for flameless candles (this is what I use day to day) and if you do choose to have real candles, Please use with caution, do not leave candles unattended at anytime and keep them away from anything flammable.
Love the savy tools and techniques you have used in order to eliminate putting holes in the wall. Such an effective way to style the room! Looks beautiful.

As a retired professor, I didn't know this aesthetic was a 'thing' until recently. I think I've lived most of my life this way. I am going to buy the dark globe from Walmart. I've never seen one like it and I'm glad it's not huge - more placement potential. Very nice room makeover!

Omg we’ve had that exact brass lamp on our piano for decades! If you’re near a public library you can often find nice books and magazines with good pictures in their used book sale area.
Very nice, great job. Command hooks have weight limits listed on the package, they do not fall off, I use them all the time. I have a heavyweight one holding a mirror and lots of old frames. If you wanted the room to be darker or a different color Wayfair has peel and stick wallpaper that pulls right off when you move.
I’ve been worried to try them out because the last time I used them they ripped the paint off the wall when I took them off. Have you had the same issue?
@@justlanchen No. You have to pull the tape down VERY slowly and it will get super long. If you yank it too hard or fast you might pull the paint off but I've never had it happen.

Another good image tip is to use cabinet cards (the old style card mounted photographs popular in the Victorian and Edwardian era). I have lots of family ones but if you don’t, they’re often found cheaply in lots in thrift shops or on eBay.

Either using hooks or stickies to hang small frames in a collage or arrangements of small items, which gives it a sort of wunderkammer effect, especially if they're partially obscured by the books on the shelf.

I definitely got lucky with a lot of the items but a really good place to find these is on eBay. You can get stuff on there for super cheap but you’ll have to wait about three months for it to ship to you if you want to get it for as little as possible 😅 still worth it though

My advice is visit as many thrift stores as possible

I found it at my house a long time ago behind our washer when we moved, I have no idea where it came from as I only lived with my sister and it wasn’t her 😅😅
U are so lucky u can stuff like this easily and for good prices,where I live is so hard to find and expensive
I definitely got lucky with a lot of the items but a really good place to find these is on eBay. You can get stuff on there for super cheap but you’ll have to wait about three months for it to ship to you if you want to get it for as little as possible 😅 still worth it though
