Good Vid, another thing to check for light disipline is to place all your gear, clothing, shoes, pack... in a dark location and shine a light on it all to verify that there are no reflective strips built into any of it. A lot of manufacturers are putting these reflective strips into their stuff for "safety". You may not even notice it but it will light up like crazy if someone shines a light your way.

I've noticed one of the places reflective cloth is placed is the piping along the stitched seam of packs and such. To get rid of it means undoing those seams and restitching everything. An ounce of prevention: don't buy those items 👍

What about carrying an empty self painted camouflaged "dry bag" anytime you know you're going to be out for more than 1 afternoon...???
They're not usually painted with reflective materials and if you suddenly get caught out in the rain or snow you can take much of your equipment, pack it in the dry bag, and leave the dry bag out in the rain as plain as day.

    Pretty cool.
    I’m a self taught hunter.
Most of my deer kills are from walk/stalk hunts.
I figured out what works best for sneaking around in the woods without alerting attention to yourself and much of what you mentioned is pretty
    much how I do it.
Leafy mesh camo conceals well and cautious,
    slow movement is key.
I usually take one step then stop, look around slowly and plan my next step
taking care not to step on sticks.
Staying out of direct sunlight and keeping anything reflective covered.
    I keep pebbles in my
pocket to throw with a thumb fling if something looks at me then looks away....movement is your worst enemy.
If you can sneak up on a mature doe bedded down in the woods you’ve got it nailed.
Of course this is not a survival situation but a lot the principles
    apply.
Marksmanship and keeping cool under pressure is paramount.
Notice how hunters get buck fever or have an adrenaline dump after they kill a deer?
Learning how to control those body functions is a learned trait and not everyone can do it.
Imagine trying to control that with an armed enemy that just doesent flip it’s tail and run.

Excellent points. For eliminating walking sounds like cracking twigs, old trackers use a particular walking technique rather than socks over boots. Socks will pick up small detris that can later snag and make more noise or cause you to stumble.

    • @williamgill5286
      @williamgill5286 2 ปีที่แล้ว

yes heel toe walking is good for woods or cluttered enviornment. Start with back of heel and roll to the toes. Works best barefooted but still works with footwear. Not only does it minimize the amount of contact surface for less noise chance, its also allows you to stop your step if its too loud n step another place. Also helps prevent you from tripping up if you are holding a two handed gun up or something like that where tripping or falling down would not be ideal

I use a Geigerrig. To prevent air in the bladder, flip it upside down and suck out all the air. My first hydration bladder was a Camelbak. I got a Geigerrig for Christmas and it was a night and day difference. I highly recommend Geiggerig. If you live in a colder climate i would suggest getting the insulated tube.

We was taught some of that while I was in the Air Force and some I learned from my grandfather when I was a teen growing up. I was able to walk up on deer many times and surprised them while they was sleeping. I worked for the prison system of the state of Arkansas and learned some there also about being tactical and not giving myself away when on the job.

Excellent as usual. Just got back from a short trip and I could tell a lot about who'd been there by their litter. Being a civvy and a smoker, I've long disciplined myself to collect my leavings in a conveniently orange plastic shopping bag clasped under a static strap that can double as a rescue vest (I do carry more than one) until I hit a bin or can bury it deep. Future archaeologists won't need all the material people people tend to drop to show they've been to McDonalds or Starbucks or the off-licence on their way there. Still, at least you know they'll be there to distract people with guns if it ever goes that way while I pick a more suitable shopping bag colour for stealth.

I was never in the military but iv studied and studied how to do recon and ect and ill call myself a recon specialist if you want to call it. One of the parts that iv learned is, always keep you valuable items in your pockets or you chest rig because there is gonna be a time were you have to run and press distance away from your enemies, you have to ditch your backpack to make you faster and you wont have time to dig through it to get you items that will save you in that time. My valuable items i keep on me is, a head lamp-red too keep bright detection low, a knife, fire starter, water purifier tabs, paracord, pistol with a couple mags, and a basic medical pouch that can strap to your molle belt or your belt in general, and I always keep my socks loop around my belt so there able to dry, binoculars that go around your neck a map and compass, also having socks available is good because if you put it over your boot while your walking/running it makes your foot prints look old but you will have to sacrifice a couple socks and a foldable shovel to dig a campfire to keep smoke detection low. 😅when i hike in the middle of nowhere my buddies ask why i have all that shit out of my backpack and i tell them why and they say well no one if gonna come after you and i said it will come useful if i piss off a group of rednecks on private property…

Very cool tricks! Particularly that one with the sock OVER the boot for noise & track reduction. Mind if I add a few? You may or may not know about these, but here's some that I picked up that you or someone else might be interested in:
For water, something you might not have thought of are those collapsible water bottles. You can squeeze the air out of it like a bota bag & use them very easily with a Sawyer filter (an ass-kicking filter & they sell flexible bottles, too). A trick is to take the Sawyer filter & screw it onto the water bottle (it'll work with a variety, including soda bottles & such- part of why it's so awesome). Then, take one of those adapters (they're about 5 dollars & screw together with the gray piece it comes with- almost threw mine out on account of I didn't know that!), screw it onto a water bottle. Connect it with the straw that comes with the filter. Now you can filter or backflush (to clear the filter) while moving! The top bottle doesn't have to be perfectly straight, so you could tie this across your pack, hang it up (or slant it a bit) while in an ATV/car/boat. You might even be able to put one in a pocket & hold or tie the other to you while you travel (it only takes about five minutes & sometimes you don't actually have someone RIGHT behind you while being chased) These bottles can be taped for the glare if it's a problem (one color for filtered, one color for unfiltered).
Another idea is a wineskin/waterskin. This might very well be like the ones people used historically, which you can make from an animal stomach or bladder. To do that, you knot one end & then glue or tie a tube in it (reed, bamboo, hollow bone, or drilled-out wood would do), then carve a tapered plug to seal it off. After this, you can put a bag over it for protection from thorns & twigs, keeping a glare from being thrown (looks very cool, but obviously a problem if you're hunting or the hunted), and providing an extra possibles bag (which may or may not be waterproof on one side, giving you an extra waterskin if you have a drawstring to cinch it down tight with & something to keep food, tinder, or whatever dry). A wet bag (probably cloth) will keep the water a bit cooler through evaporation. That was a trick they did with the old Soviet canteens. I've been hearing about some type of towel that keeps you cool (I believe it's called a "Chilly Pad" by Frog Toggs). That could be a useful thing to have on the run, too.
Another one for water might be to put it in a plastic bag INSIDE the water bottle. Learned this as a trick to use "repair" a water bottle if it gets a crack or a hole in it. All you do is twist up the bag, put it in the bottle & fill it up, then twist the cap on over the bag (yeah, it'll proabably chew up the bag to do that). The reasoning is that you could suck the air out, trap it shut, and then maybe screw the cap on over the doubled end. Don't know if that one will work, but it's a good repair trick, at any rate.
Speaking of plastic bags, putting a clear one (black doesn't work as well) around a branch will collect water. Just move it to different branches every now & then (how long probably depends on the conditions, but I'd definitely suggest under an hour), so there isn't a bunch of vegetation looking wilted or getting brown as a sign. Not sure if it matters whether this is with poisonous plants or not (probably important, but I've heard both things- don't know what to say). Transpiration bags are a GREAT trick, seeing as you don't always know if or where water is in the area you wind up in & even if you do, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to get there (not in a timely, hard to track, injury-free way). It also might be where someone expects you to go & they set up a trap there or on the way there.
One thing is that sometimes you feel very bloated & soggy after you drink, while still being thirsty. I don't know if this is what's meant by "retaining water" or what, but what always works for me is to eat a little bit of salt. Just licking a few shakes of it out of my hand usually does the trick (and quick, too- almost instantly). Might be a good idea to take some salt packets with you or some such.
Guess this wound up being all about water, but it's an important subject. I remember Mors Kochanski saying that the two things that gave you the most problems the next day were not getting a good night's sleep & not getting enough water.

+Jeremy Huber Was just about to say the same thing. And you dont have to take the cantine in and out of the backpack all the time. The most important stuff when moving alot is to hydrate small amounts all the time, then taking big sips in breaks. This helps keeping the body cool, and making the muscle lasting longer... As far as the MRE packets go, you could always burn them in a fire. That way, the most they will think is "they have access to fire". Granted, you wouldn't want to give away any information to a tracker if you can avoid it. However, I personally would rather them know that I can make fire than know that I'm a prepper.
Also, if you bury the ashes, the most they would see is some dirt upturned, and if they dug through it, it would be unlikely that they would be able to tell the ash from the dirt. However, I am glad that you brought up all of those points. I had never even thought of any of that, minus the flashlight thing.

When I go out squirrel hunting I always wear some old woodland BDUs that have button up pockets so I don't make any Velcro noise. Yes I wear hunter orange over that. Unless in the woods behind my house using my pellet rifle for hunting. In that case I wear the BDUs and a woodland boonie style hat. I've been able to sneak within 15 feet of a squirrel wearing that camo gear.

+Harrison Blackwood I know that this is off topic but I would like to share with you that Chinese tech has more value and is more advanced than the world gives credit for. The Chinese have found a way to bypass the countermeasures
that USA will use in a scenario naval war with anti-ship ballistic mach 10 missiles
its called inertial guidance. Its basically a pre-programmed flight path and they also use pseudo-random anti jamming homing radar so the frequencies are always random so you wouldn't know what frequency you'll need to use to jam the warhead(s).

i went camping many moons ago as a lad we didn't know the directions to the camp site lucky the group had set off before us so we tracked them by following the sweet wrapper trail lol like magic we got there and we were very poorly greeted by them asking how did you find us we were sort of told your not welcome from that question so we made camp a few meters away our camp was far superior and everything was off the ground before dark their group joined our abandoning their camp in favour to hours we had a good easter weekend that year a fond memory to look back on :)

You can make baffles for your water bottles from cut up plastic milk bottles etc..............it's the old method of large containers filled with liquid being prevented from sloshing around if not full and tipping over. All large liquid carrying containers are filled with baffles.

You are absolutely correct about the human waste. Burial is not effective, especially with dogs. The reason bodies were historically buried six feet deep was that any shallower, dogs or animals could pick up the smell and dig up the corpse.

More tips, watch where you're putting your feet. Don't step on sticks or patches of loose dry leaves if you can avoid it. Don't trod down living plants if you can help it, step around or over them every time you can, else you create a path that trackers can easily detect. If possible, follow existing animal paths.

You can smoke and hide that fire from NVG's when you take a draw, but it's a learned skill just like any other. You cup your hands around the fire and enclose it and take a drag then. Leaning over helps too. I realize this won't hide the smell, but if they are that close to you, you screwed up somewhere and you probably know they are close by, in that case, maybe don't smoke.
