    you are one of the few survivalist/preppers on youtube i actually respect. there's so many out there that just babble nonsense and can barely make it from their couch to their car before getting winded. lol. keep up the good work bro.

    Retired Sere Instructor, we upgraded BLISS to BLISSS (Blend in, Low in silhouette, Irregular in shape, Small, Secluded, and survivable). The reason being, some students would build their secluded shelter in dangerous areas, ie widow makers above, rock slide areas, or flood zones.

    This is a very good video on keeping a stealthy shelter and site. I agree, there is a big difference between bushcraft and survival, just as there are also two very different approaches to survival depending on whether or not you want to be found. I think the BLISS acronym is useful in either case, if you are trying to get found just do the opposite of each part. Thanks for doing such a good job of explaining the BLISS principle and showing such clear examples. - Bryan

    In 2017 I went into the north Georgia mountains and buged out for 180 days...I started in the last of summer and went into winter...with that came snow and very cold rain and wind...I used federal government land to bug out in...I didn't know much survival...it good to see this and learn how to do better....I'm going back in the mountains for a short time this winter, I'm preparing for it ...

    Great point about the Dakota fire hole, really reduces your signature especially if using dry tinder and wood (no punk wood, green leaves, or green wood). Any tips or tricks concerning early detection of people too close to your camp? Love your videos especially the urban settings and gray man concepts. A few additional points not covered in this video - stay away from any paths or what looks like could be a regular route taken by people of animals. In true E&A you don't have time to put up this type of camp - This type of camp is for a few days - another point not covered was that you need to look at entry/exit points to this camp - keep to the same routes in and out of your camp - that way you keep your presence to others to a minimum and keep the vegetation looking it's best. Ponchos/bashers/tarps etc also make a noise when rain falls on them - a different noise to rain falling on leaves/branches or the ground so be aware of that also. In A&E - your stay is a minimum period - hours at the most - just to get some rest, to eat some food, check where you are and then back to the evasion. Good point about tree branch cutting - again keep to lower branches and cut as close to the tree trunk as possible - cut branches die very quickly so only use for short stay camps - never on A&E
    Making distance between yourself and those chasing you is the only true safety net - so short stays and on your way - stay off paths and roads, never walk along the hill/mountain ridge line - always stay lower than that. ATB 4 now

    Against my better judgement, on deployment, we started a fire. It was pretty cold where we were and higher elevation, limited insulation capabilities. Then the rockets came. Lesson learned.

  • @presidentgateway

    Sometimes a fire is necessary. In that case, a denatured alcohol stove is a good choice. An alcohol flame is almost invisible, is smokeless and odorless. Alcohol stoves, like the Trangia, are very light weight.

If you could give me some pointers for how to cover my tracks in thick leaves, I'd appreciate that too. Thanks again for your time!

    • @Barskor1

      Heel to toe ever so slow with soft soled shoes. For the leaves use an evergreen branch and sweep lightly to look like wind toss.

    As a purely hypothetical scenario...say I was part of a 5 member strike team, deep in occupied territory "Red Dawn" style, trying to set up a semi-permanent base of operations from which to survive and harass the enemy...would the content of this video scale up to meet me and my teams needs? or would I need to employ completely different tactics for setting up a hidden base camp?

    • @Barskor1
      @Barskor1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You want attacking and evading? Hard to do once you attack they know to look for you they can draw several perimeters based on modes of travel available with time as consideration given the requirements to hide being seclusion that can eliminate vast areas from needing to be searched. If you do attack you need to have delaying measures in place before you attack booby traps and so on. Tripple layers of deception in place at least such as they follow hit booby traps slow down and then follow the line of traps AWAY from your chosen final direction of travel have false trails set up a footprint here drops of blood there broken twigs a classic is the reterat and lead the enemy into a ambush but it is a classic so be carefull in using it.

    I attend the UK's Army cadet force, ( a youth organization ) and they always teach the basic and 1* cadets that bashas are great shelters while also being camouflaged when it is at a lean to position. I've always disagreed with that statement, and even some of the instructors have, but hey ho. That's what's in the books so that's what we're taught.

  • @JamesMartin-hv1yd
    @JamesMartin-hv1yd 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the biggest threat in a SHTF situation will be other people who have escaped to the woods stumbling upon your camp, not people that have set out to look for you, so you're right in saying that little things are all that is needed to hide your campsite.

    Good info, but a fire?? E & E means unseen, unheard, unsmelled. Smoke, light, cooking, are seen and smelled. Cold rations, MREs, survival tabs, protean bars instead. If they can’t do without coffee, tea, hot meal, smoking or dipping tobacco, they ain’t E & E or stealth material.
