Puss and Kitty are the better version of Han and Leia in Force Awakens

even after the main story ends... the last part opens up the possibilities of a sequel and successfully leaves us wanting for more and hyped up for the future sequels...!

    “Death is the main villain”
This is Jack slander and I will not tolerate it.

lol I intended to say that sarcastically but my tone doesn't show my bad!

It is really easy to call death the main villain as he is the only character who is both hell bent on killing Puss and is serious about it from start to finish. The only thing I think that sets him apart is he doesn't commit senseless acts of violence, hell, he is only given two rather brief scenes where he can actually get violent. Most of the time he is an anxiety inducing terror that just stalks its prey. He is an antagonist, not a villain. That title belongs to Jack Horner.

@@SergeyPupkoMusic Death is hellbent on Killing Puss, Jack is hellbent on taking the last wish from Puss. I’d also consider him a villain because he actively admits that he’s cheating.

@@cosmicspacething3474 "Agree to disagree" lol... I think both arguments are valid. IMO, There is a level of respect that death shows after the final fight. He actually takes a bow, tells him to live out his final life. They parted on food terms. If, by definition, the wolf was a villain, he would have absolutely killed him, regardless of the growth of character Puss experiences, and an appreciation for the value of what he gained in his final life making it worth living out instead of cheating death.

@@SergeyPupkoMusic I’m still tipping ever so slightly towards villain. He did concede, but did he sure as hell threw a hissy fit about it though. Which makes his malicious intentions more clear. I think it’s kinda perfect though. We have the Antagonist (Goldie), the Villain (Jack), and the one that people can’t really decide on

The 3 villain factions of The Last Wish will teach you the difference between Main, Secondary, and Overarching Villains
Main Villain: Jack Horner. Not only does he have the most screen time of the 3 but he does the most in regards to working in opposition to our 3 Protagonists
Secondary Villains: Goldie Lox and the three bears. They’re constantly involved in the story but don’t play as big a role as Jack, buts it’s big enough to not be ignored
Overarching Villain: Death itself. He has the least scream time and technically does the least among of things. Having two only fights. Yet he’s the first true villain to appear. And his influence is present throughout the entire film. From hiding in the crowd before he introduces himself to the mere idea of Death’s presence giving Puss a genuine panic attack. Even when he isn’t physically present to do anything

Such a rarity to see an animated cartoon about fairy tale characters take itself so seriously. Shrek universe tends to be very tongue in cheek and doesn't take itself too seriously. I think this is a very rare example of a movie that truly the whole family can enjoy, right from a little kid who will appreciate the visuals and the occasional gag humor down to the grand parents who have long since accepted that their time is almost up, to the parents who might see some of themselves portrayed in one of the main characters and the struggle they all go through, as well as the resolution. Honestly, I can't think of another film that does this so well. It's probably out there, just not in the forefront of my mind.

A fascinating (though albeit obvious perhaps) way to look at it: every character in the film is in one way or another, just a fairytale, even if they’re a background character. And fairytales are almost always portrayed with a happy ending. They’re just bedtime stories after all. But Lobo-DEATH- is no fairytale. We can’t hide from death like a child hiding under the blanket from the monster in the closet or Puss in Luna’s home. Death isn’t just some bad dream you can brush off. It’s reality. For as supernatural as he appears, Lobo is ironically the only real entity (true to life in his namesake) of the story, as Death’s personification. And just as he haunts Puss, sometimes only appearing in flashes and in the shadows, Death haunts us too, sometimes as silent as a wispy breeze, and other times as loud and noticeable as the biggest crash of thunder. And we often have no choice but to bestow upon death our highest respects, for simple carelessness, such as laughing in the face of death, only brings it that much closer until it eventually claims you. And that subconscious fear and understanding is truly terrifying just to accept, let alone make peace with, and it makes Puss’s story that much more relatable

I think the biggest surprise that came out of this movie wasn't the fact that it was an animated movie that pulled off good emotions throughout its entirety, but more so the fact that it's a sequel to the puss in boots movie that did it

One thing I love about this movie is that it can stand alone. Without ever watching Shrek, or the first PiB movie, you can 100% get on board.

10:10 also, mama bear is a saying for a reason. A bear mom being the harsher one makes sense to me completely, especially when it comes to the family.

Such a competent, smart review! Awesome. I will never understand why people think it's unusual to tear up watching animated movies. Those are the *only* ones I tear up watching. 😸 It's as if we already forgot about the 1990s Disney "renaissance" masterpieces.
And "The last wish" was truly superb.

A very nice review! Thank you! I loved how at the end, all the previous antagonists collaborated to destroy the wishing star to remove the temptation. And that indirectly was the end of the real villain in the story. I liked how that happened indirectly rather than them 'going in for the kill'. A nice subtlety in a very well-crafted movie full of subtleties...and heart.

Death wolf was still a villian in this movie, why does he care if we don't respect life? He should a apathetic towards it, instead he goes out of his way to get mad at puss and want to kill him early before his time is up. Does he go after suicidal people in this universe too?

    • @cynxmanga
      @cynxmanga 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

First things first, it's a kids movie that is supposed to teach arrogance and neglecting your life is a bad thing. So Death in the story's universum just gets annoyed by those like Puss. Since Death spared him at the very end because Puss proved he changed his view on life, it shows that Death follows and respects a certain moral codex. So I don't think this Death would think it's fair to hunt suicidal people, it should know that such people are either mentally ill or pushed into despair, or forced to be like this in some other way. Puss was straight up ignorant willingly and that's what Death punishes.
