I'm really happy that Haikyuu showed me your channel! You have some much positive energy and watching your reactions makes my day better in an instant 😄
Not only that. Lachy also gets around 80%-90% of the various character developments, main story and subplots, and even the scattered nuances to some degree of all the shows he watches from the lenses of both logic and empathy. He instantly shot up to my #1 all-time overall fave reactor!
Yayyy I'm so happy you're reacting to this!! If you like it you should really also watch Alice in Borderland, it's a bit similar but deserves much more love 👏 It's based on a Manga actually so I'm sure you'd enjoy it 👀
Oh wow. Never expected this one!!!!! All games that were played here are children games. So it was another layer of sickness lmao Btw the scene where player 218 was lying on the bathtub while smoking is actually an act of su!c1de.
omg i wasn't expecting this reaction! my mom and i recently started rewatching it. also you should change the captions from "English (CC)" to "English"! "English (CC)" is for the english dub, but some stuff is translated better in the "English" subtitles.
So glad you got into this series! This one is so good as well as Vincenzo and All of Us are Dead if you want to stick with Korean shows. This show is great on showing the depths of humanity or the lack thereof. Looking forward to this!
@@lachyywhiteI’m gonna add in Hotel del Luna as well. In a new age where people are getting into Kdramas, I’m surprised not many are watching or are recommending people to watch with how great the story is!
Yey! I've been binging your Haikyuu videos and I didn't expect this but a good one to add to the already awesome selection. I love this format of reacting to multiple episodes in 1 video. Thankful that it's the subtitled version too. Alice in Borderland may have already been recommended by others since it came out around the same time and it features games to the death too-would like to add my vote on that one for future consideration.
As someone who lives in Korea, many people have so much debt that loan sharks are thriving. Also: people work insane amounts of hours (my husband works for his parents and he still works 80+ hours per week with only two days a month off) and foreigners are often used for illegal work and paid miserably. So many of these scenarios in Squid Game feel very realistic which makes it so good.
@@lachyywhite Yeah for sure. There is a huge emphasis on showing how "rich" / not showing how poor you are. Lots of suicides. There's even a bridge they call the bridge of death (Mapo Bridge) because almost every other day someone ends or tries to end their life there.
Omg! I can't believe you haven't watched this! My family showed me the first two episodes when I visited them and I was so uncomfortable. Mainly because of how much true crime I watch and the manipulation tactics on these desperate people seemed all too real. People ask how a government or police force wouldn't care or seem that interested in looking into all these people disappearing. Unfortunately people who live lives in debt, houseless/vagrant, known money problems do fall under the radar IRL. It's easy to assume they met a bad end via loansharks, overdose, or even died from the elements from being unhoused. It was so hard to watch gi-hun gamble away all those thing's especially for his daughter
Like... I stopped buying Pokemon cards get it felt too much like I was gambling lol. I didn't start buying them though cause of the more recent uptick in content from mainstream content creators. I've just always had that pokemon autism. Probably like 2016-2019? Is when I was buying them.
squid game jumpscare a pleasant surprise, very intriguing 👁️👁️ i agree, the ost in this show is really cool!! 48:22 wasn't it literally his actual reaction lmao?? it's surprising tbh how popular game of thrones was considering it's extremely graphic, i recommend maybe googling for specific warnings before going into it in case you'd want to avoid certain moments or to decide if you want to watch it at all it does have an interesting plot though!!
1:10:13 yeaa it was a very popular halloween costume, even a bts member wore one during a concert and the fancam went kinda viral😹 you dont like watching gory stuff or it's just this specific type of realistic body injuries? 👀
about the ending scene, its not just that the player saw the face, other masked people count too meaning none of the masked people know how any other masked person look like. Problem wasnt that player saw his face so that it could be argued its fine because none of the players know their identity since the one who did is dead. Its that other workers also saw him. Its structured this way so that nobody can identify anyone
yes the original korean line was also saying ‘the majority’, maybe just bad translation 😂 there definitely is a better version of suntitles but not sure which one… Thanks for the reaction. like it so much 😊
40:29 ok so i am not a cop so i wont pretend i can relate but i am chef in restaurant and i think i can make a fair comparison. imagine someone come and makes a weird order. you normally have to make it. but then that person does not like it. Now imagine 5 people does same every week, order something, change the menu, make adjustment, make your life a living hell in the kitchen because now you dont only have to keep up with all the orders but also need to make adjustments that takes time and messes with the flow. And imagine those 5 people complain about dish. maybe its not what they imagined, maybe their friend told them "look you need to try this, ask them to change stuff and you will love it" but they dont, or they just complain for sake of complaining. Now imagine you work in same restaurant for 10 years and every week at least 5 people does this thing. I can totally understand why chef go "no, you cant make adjustment. We made menu for a reason, if you dont like what comes with that dish order something else" or whatever generic quote you probably heard jaded chef says. Now imagine instead of a chef you are cop and you get at least 100 paranoid calls that is really nothing. Or people who are high and seeing weird stuff so they call police, or random pranksters who think its funny to mess with police. Now imagine dealing with that for years. You eventually stop taking those crazy calls and statements seriously. I understand the sentiment, yes it sucks when one of these far fetches implausible stories are real and victims dont get attention and help they desperately need, but i would not say fault is entirely of police. I blame the idiots who prank and make fake stories. And i also dont agree that police should take every statement such as this one seriously no matter how many of them are fake. People complain about how high taxes are as it is, imagine if police start going on every goose chase because 1% of them are real deal. Yes i sound insensitive but i see both sides. How many real crimes would go unpunished because nobody was available to response because they were chasing ghosts of a high teenager. While full squad is responding to a prank riot call and barging inside the house of an innocent streamer because some delusional viewer managed to hack their address and thought it would be funny to prank call police on them on false charges there might be actual robbery going couple blocks down the place that nobody is responding to. Yes its bad and it sucks in those 1% cases such as the one in this show (which is kinda the point of the scene) but its unfair to be mad at cop
About the police calling the number in episode 2 and faking being a contestant, you said « tell them you are the police ! » Police don’t do that. There is a famous case in Japan where a kidnapped victim tried to call the police from a house phone and the police called back saying they were the police. The kidnappers answered and said it was an error. They killed the girl
I also have been the type to dodge watching shows when it's in the peak of its popularity. Actually, Haikyuu is a great example of this, it was so (understandably) hyped in its initial release that I couldn't fully enjoy it until later when TH-cam channels were reacting to it, like yours. It's ironic, almost all the shows I passed up on watching, I came to later enjoy. lol
I always felt the accuracy of the guns in the first game was sorta justified by the fact they seem to have infinite funds. Wouldn't cost them too much to just put some kind of receiver into everyone's jackets that the guns can lock on to. How feasible that would actually be I don't know. Also they show really well why this whole thing should never work. The amount of money and manpower required to host something like this is so incredibly ridiculous something would have leaked. In an age where everyone can carry audio and video recording equipment without anyone being able to know especially and as we know from this show that's also what happens here and it's only stopped because the organizers got lucky. It's best to see this as a Sci-Fi show rather than something that could actually happen.
I appriciate that you have a strong reaction to violance. It seems like you don't see violance much in movies or rl. Most of us get used to it (or any other human instant emotion). Some reactors only get riled up when there is a scene when an animal got hurt, but stay calm when it comes to human. A bit sad actually. P.S.: hurting animal is also a fu act.
Lachy you are going to need a breather series to react to. This set you have lined up to watch is so so so emotionally taxing if you watch them back to back. I want to introduce you to kaguya sama love is war, a romantic comedy series.
What a nice surprise! You're in for a wild ride! Just remember that when they are talking about money, it's in Korean won, not USD/AUD, so "billion" is not quite as much as you'd think.
12:42 its like pre programing/finding people who are willing to receive bodily harm if they lose a childrens game. Sort of turning them to that mindset of being willing to hurt someone else for the game imo. Very cultish. ALSO another cool fact i recently learned. The pickpocket was initially a model! I knew that but this was also her first time acting! Shes also 30! Girl still looks like a teenager fr. Korean names have a common scheme, a given name thats hyphenated and then a family name. Common family names are Kim, Lee, Park, Jeong, etc. My Dad's name was Lee Dong-choel. He was adopted by some mormons though when he was little and they made Lee his first name 😒.
i am the same as you when it comes to mainstream stuff that does well. I never watched star wars or star trek and only reason i watched the original LOTR trilogy is because i lost a bet and my friend could make me do whatever he wants and he chose to force me to binge watch LOTR with him. I hated the idea so much that i offered breaking up with my girlfriend instead but he refused because he knew watching LOTR is worst thing he could ask from me (for context he really hated her, i was not offering random breakup for no reason)
Just wanted to remind you that 1 million Korean Won = 700 USD. so, while they do have a lot of debt, it's not as enormous as the numbers might suggest.
Funny thing : the concept of Squid Game is pretty similar of a manga named « the Will of Gods » where teenagers became part of a survival game and need to play mortal kid games to survive. This horror manga was made by the creator of Blue Lock years before Squid Game. (It got a movie adaption)
@riddle8999 it's so weird. If I scroll to the top of my subscriptions and highlight just him it pops up, but if I go back to showing all subscriptions it's nowhere to be found. It's like my subscription list has it's own algorithm.
The Game of Thrones series is undeniably well-made, but I can’t help but HATE IT! It had the potential to reach the same masterpiece level as *Attack on Titan*, which also contains brutal scenes but handles them with purpose. Instead, The Game of Thrones includes unnecessary, graphic, detailed scenes of r@pe, dehumanization, harassment, shaming, and the overall exploitation of women. These s3x scenes add nothing to the main story; they seem like an attempt to gain an audience by catering to perverts, but honestly, that’s how you lose a genuine fanbase. That's why I don't suggest to you react it.

Hahahah thats how I feel watching it as well, the story has me hooked
@@lachyywhite Some people have best described this show as the Korean Hunger Games.... If that checks out for you.
