Such a great song, and maybe one of the most-played songs on Easy Listening radio in the late 70s. For more great Lionel-led songs, try "Three Times a Lady", "Still", "Oh No", or "Old Fashion Love". You also might consider doing "Nightshift", their tribute to the legend and legacy of Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson (which they recorded after Lionel left the group to go solo). OR.... if you want to get more into Lionel's solo stuff (you've only done "Hello" so far), you can do "Endless Love" (a truly magnficient duet with Diana Ross), "Truly", "You Are", "My Love", "All Night Long", or "Say You, Say Me". Thanks for reacting!

"Three Times a Lady" is THE Commodores/Lionel Richie masterpiece. White radio, black radio, disco radio, pop radio, even country radio - you name it - that song was inescapable in summer 1978. Be sure to listen to the long (studio) version of the song, it carries so much more emotional resonance.

That's guitar solo is (at least partially) the sound you get when running the guitar directly into the recording console and cranking up the gain knob, so it gets crunchy and has lots of high end (as opposed to the usual method of recording the guitarists amp with a microphone). This track might actually be a blend of the direct to console signal with a mic'd amp (maybe running through a fuzz pedal too).

Amber and Jay, you just can't go wrong with the Commodores! So many hits and great memories. Another one I'd recommend is "Zoom". It holds a special meaning for The Commodores. It was written by Ronald LaPread and Lionel Richie. Ronald LaPread's wife, Cathy, had cancer and he began composing it and she gave him some ideas for the melody and Lionel put the words to it. Cathy passed away before the song was released. I think you'll really enjoy it when you know the meaning behind it.

Over their career, The Commodores will chart 25 singles on the Pop chart, reaching the Top 10 ten times including 2 #1s between 1974 - 1986. On the R&B chart, the Commodores place 29 singles, 16 in the Top 10 including 7 #1s between 1974 - 1988.

I've lived in Alabama my whole life and been a country musician my whole life and Easy is one of my all time favorite songs. Lionel was born and raised in Tuskegee and the Commodores were formed at Tuskegee Institute. They were basically a funk band but Lionel took them in more of a pop/country direction. Songs like Sail On, Stuck On You, Deep River Woman I always thought were country songs.
I always thought Lionel should do a country album which he finally did about 15 years ago. On that album he did a very cool version of Easy with Willie Nelson.
The horns, the guitar solo and of course Lionel's piano and vocal....Easy is definitely in this country boy's top 5 all-time favorite songs.

5:00 the guitar sound is from a type of guitar effect known as a "fuzz pedal". Electric guitarists can put electronic devices between the guitar and the amplifier to modify the signal in different ways, called "pedals" or "stomp boxes". There's dozens of different kinds of effects you can put in your signal chain, like chorus, echo, phaser, overdrive, Wah, compression, etc. This one is a classic "fuzz pedal" though.

The original lead was the drummer, Walter Orange, who you've already heard on "Brick House" -- he also did a great lead on their post-Lionel ballad "Only You." They had a lot of similar type of laid back, smooth songs like this in the 70s: Easy, Three Times a Lady, Sail On, Just to be Close To You . . . All great songs. If you react to Three Times a Lady, look for the longer version. It has more depth to it.

I really like the song "Oh No" that Lionel did back in the early eighties. I don't think it's as very well known as the others and I think it was whenever he started his solo career, I'm not sure if the commodores are backing him or not, But this is always been a favorite of mine that he did, If you can ever get around to that would be awesome 🙂

The guitarist is Thomas McClary. The sound he gets during the solo is a combination of a compression and fuzz pedal mixed through a oscillator. If you watch closely, you can see him stomp the pedal when the solo is over.

Awesome reaction!, I was lucky enough to see the Commodores live, back in the day, they where Awesome!. Heard them play this song ( fantastic performance! ). The crowd went nuts when they played "Zoom", I recommend "Zoom" for your next Commodore reaction, ( if there's any ). Thank you, Peace!

Great song! "Three Times A Lady" is another smooth hit. Lionel's "Truly" is amazing. You might consider "Suddenly" by Billy Ocean as well.

I think this is my favorite song by The Commodores, followed by “Nightshift” and then Lionel Richie on “Say You, Say Me.” I wouldn’t want to relive the 80s completely, but songs like these have that nostalgic feeling that makes me wish I could go back and relive a day or two here and there.

"Still" is awesome. "Oh No" was brutal in it's sincerity. Many people forget that tune and it was hugely popular. Thanks to the movie "Last American Virgin" for making it aware to everybody!

OMG, that "friend" of his was horrible! Also, what was Karen thinking? Kinda makes you mad at the end. LOL! Both of those songs are awesome, and I hope they listen to the FULL version of "Still." The radio edit ruins it. Yeah, "Just Once" by James Ingram was one of my requests. That song is amazing as well!!!

This was one of the well-played albums in my collection as a 12 year-old. The album this song is from called "Commodores" also had the songs "Brick House" and "Zoom", which are great as well. I adored the Commodores so much.

@@kellyreiterman I'm the kid in the family everyone dumped their 50s, 60s, and 70s records on in the 80s and 90s. I love all my uncles, aunts, and cousins who gave me their music. Including the 8-tracks. It enriched my childhood in a way I've only really been able to appreciate fully as an adult.

@@merlball8520 Never let those records go! Thankfully, I have all my my parents' 45s from the 1950s. There are a good number of them in these little 45 album books with my mother's handwriting listing each song and artist. Now that both of my parents have passed, these mean even more to have.
